Chapter 69
Elizabeth's POV
When Aiden was with Bianca, he was gentle, considerate, and such a gentleman.
I don't know when he became so awful and disgusting.
"The baby I'm carrying is Alexander's child. Even if he doesn't value me, his concern for this child is beyond your control. I'm right here now, walking into the trap myself. Do you really dare to do anything to me?"
In that moment, I clearly saw a certain desire in Aiden's eyes.
It seemed like Aiden really did see me as the most useful medicine, and was actually considering using this method to save his Bianca.
He couldn't answer for several seconds, and when he looked at me, there was obvious evasion in his eyes.
"You still want to, don't you?" I broke through his restraint.
A nasty look appeared in Aiden's eyes, as if he was about to rush at me the next second. "Since you already know, then you should know I'd do anything for Bianca."
"What if I told you that Bianca has been hiding things from you too?"
That one sentence shattered all the light in Aiden's eyes. He froze in place, looking at me in disbelief, as if trying to figure out what I meant.
I smiled slightly and continued, "You haven't answered my question. If I told you she's been lying to you all along, what would you do?"
"Lying to me?" Aiden's hand on the table was trembling.
Just as he was about to ask more, his phone on the table suddenly started vibrating frantically.
It was a call from home.
Aiden seemed to realize something and quickly answered.
Because the voice on the other end was too urgent and loud, I could hear it clearly too.
It was the housekeeper's voice, "Mr. Smith! Something terrible! Ms. Johnson tried to hang herself!"
"What did you say!" Aiden stood up excitedly, disturbing other customers in the shop, who all turned to look at him.
I suddenly laughed and stood up with him.
Aiden hurriedly gathered his things to rush home, constantly saying, "Get her to the hospital right away, make sure nothing happens to her!"
Watching his anxious expression, I confirmed that he really did love Bianca.
I just wondered how much of that love would remain after he learned Bianca's true nature.
Aiden walked quickly toward the exit, then suddenly turned back after a few steps, looking at me with an unclear expression.
His gaze swept from my face to my lips, then he said, "Come with me."
His voice was much softer than before, and I immediately frowned.
It was exactly this tone that made me angry. Are we that close? How dare you talk to me like that!
But watching the drama was something I was happy to do anyway, so I didn't refuse. However, when he invited me into his car, I declined.
"I drove here myself. I'll follow behind you, or you can ride in my car."
In this situation, not having my own transportation would be too passive. Even though the bodyguards borrowed from Alexander were right behind me, I still needed to have a car.
Aiden looked at the luxury car beside me, thought for a second, then got into the passenger seat.
Looks like he decided to take my car.
I started the car and headed toward that most familiar direction.
Aiden's face was full of worry, but he didn't bring the topic back to Bianca. Instead, he kept looking at me.
"Elizabeth, I've only recently discovered that you're more interesting than I imagined."
I laughed coldly and didn't bother responding.
Interesting? What kind of word is that?
A new evaluation of me? Or does it mean that when he was with me before, he never wanted to understand the real me?
"Aiden, if you say such disgusting things again, I'll have Alexander rip out your tongue." I said without changing my expression, and his face immediately froze as he stared at me blankly.
After a while, he laughed softly, "Fine, but do you and Alexander really have feelings for each other?"
He glanced at my belly, then said, "He's just using you as a tool too, right? After you give birth, do you think he'll still protect you?"
What Aiden said was true, but it wasn't something I needed to worry about right now.
Because the child in my belly was what gave me the right to negotiate with Alexander. What Aiden said couldn't possibly affect me.
I just needed to follow my original plan, make Aiden suffer, and find a good way out for myself.
As for other things, I didn't want to deal with them.
After arriving at the Smith family home, Aiden got out of the car and headed straight toward Bianca.
I contacted the bodyguards behind me, then walked inside.
But as soon as I entered, a familiar person stopped me first.
It was Jessica.
She looked at me like I was an enemy. Just as she was about to speak, Cleo pulled her aside.
Cleo gave her a look, and Jessica immediately shut her mouth.
I frowned at them, full of confusion.
Had they suddenly changed their ways?
Jessica was still somewhat unhappy, but what she said to me was relatively polite, "You actually came back?"
"Of course I came back because I have something important to tell Aiden. I heard that Bianca tried to hang herself at your house?"
Although I didn't know why this mother-daughter pair had suddenly changed their attitude toward me, my instinct told me this wasn't a good thing.
There was probably a bigger scheme at play.
Sure enough, when I mentioned Bianca, both their eyes lit up.
Even Cleo, who used to dislike me the most, came to my side and lowered her voice, "Elizabeth, aside from your lack of family background, I'm quite satisfied with you. It's not impossible for you to return to the Smith family."
Jessica pressed her lips together, but at Cleo's prompting, she spoke, "But don't get too cocky. Whether you can really enter our family's door depends on your performance."
Listening to the mother and daughter's coordinated act, I rolled my eyes.
"Do you really think the Smith family is such a prize? Look clearly—the one eager to marry into your family isn't me, it's Bianca."
Having been around these two for so long, I'd already figured out their nature.
The most important quality they wanted in a Smith family daughter-in-law was someone easy to control.
It must be that Bianca had been giving them attitude, making them feel threatened, which made them miss the good old days when they could control me.
"Don't be ungrateful! Someone like you—who else would want you besides our family?"
"That's none of your concern. But I'm here to bring you good news—news that will help you get rid of Bianca."
Things had escalated to the point of attempted hanging. Bianca must be trying the same old trick again, using this method to win Aiden's sympathy and achieve her goal.
Perfect—I could watch a good show firsthand, and see what excuse Bianca would use to defend herself this time.
