Chapter 67
Elizabeth's POV
To my surprise, Alexander gave me quite a few people - all talented individuals from the company, temporarily formed into a team.
During the meeting, those people were clearly not very convinced by me as their parachuted-in leader, but I could tell they were professional and didn't let it affect their work.
After discussing the general direction, someone suggested, "The jewelry sector is worth pursuing. The company has quality supply sources, we just need to solve the design problem."
"I heard that designer S has appeared in the country, and our new leader once obtained a piece from designer S."
Someone suddenly shifted the topic directly to me.
He had a provocative smile on his face that made me very uncomfortable.
Jewelry design? They wanted to take out part of the investment for The Windsor Family's jewelry?
They had already investigated the gift I specifically brought out for Bella's birthday to make an issue of it. On one hand, they were creating a difficult situation for me, and on the other hand, they could maximize the company's interests.
As soon as she spoke, the others looked over one after another, their faces full of surprise, "Ms. Spencer, is this true? Have you had contact with designer S?"
"Her designs aren't something just anyone can buy. Do you have a special relationship with her? If it's you, could you invite her to cooperate with us?"
"If she joins, it would bring huge benefits to The Windsor Family's jewelry. The returns can't simply be measured in money."
Several people's eyes looked over, as if I were their only hope.
Yet there was also some moral coercion hidden beneath, leaving me unsure how to respond for a moment.
This feeling was somewhat strange.
"You, what do you say?" Finally, someone couldn't hold back and directly asked for my opinion.
I naturally shook my head, "I just happened to buy a piece of jewelry once. I can't say I'm familiar with her at all. Let's not consider this option."
After I finished speaking, sure enough, several people's eyes dimmed, the interest that had just been ignited disappeared, and someone even symbolically placed their documents on the table.
He didn't hide his dissatisfaction, "I thought Ms. Spencer had something special about her that made Mr. Windsor gather us all here."
When someone complained, others immediately chimed in, "Exactly. The project I was about to complete was almost ready for handover, but then I was pulled from that work to start something new here. My previous bonus is probably all gone now."
For a moment, the conference room was filled with sighs and complaints. The bit of decorum from earlier had completely vanished with time.
I knew in my heart that these were indeed talented people, and talented people all have their tempers. Once you can't meet their expectations, many things become troublesome.
"I'm not confident about it. When I'm not confident about something, I have to give it up, otherwise it's just a waste of time."
"How could Ms. Spencer not be confident? Or is it that you won't even try?"
"Mr. Windsor gave you complete authority over us. Shouldn't you do something to earn our trust?"
"Yeah, what's the point of this?"
I bit my lip, struggling internally.
If I really got involved with the designer S' identity, it would soon be discovered that I was the real S.
If my identity were exposed, it would mean I'd face many restrictions. People looking for me would easily disrupt my life, which wasn't my intention.
But given the current situation, if I couldn't immediately establish my authority over them, forget about making a profit with this money - I'd probably become a joke to the entire project team.
"I'll think about this matter some more. Let's not talk about it now." I made my tone colder and forcefully shifted the topic to other aspects.
After a two-hour meeting, I had basically determined the general direction. I was organizing things in the office when I looked up and met a pair of eyes gleaming with coldness.
It was Alexander. I didn't know when he had appeared at the door, and he startled me.
"Mr. Windsor?" I called out to him politely.
I had been too focused just now and hadn't noticed when he arrived or how long he'd been standing there.
"Elizabeth." He softly called my name, then stepped closer, his footsteps heavy, pounding on my heart, making me involuntarily nervous.
His gaze fell on me as if it had substance. I nodded in response, "Yes?"
Now, he and I had a real superior-subordinate relationship. No matter from which angle, I seemed to have to respect him.
"Jasper has reinvested in Aiden. Did you know about this?"
Although I had already guessed this possibility, hearing it from Alexander's mouth still shocked me.
"Yes, it's my problem." I said quietly.
After all, I already had business dealings with Jasper, and some things I couldn't say too directly.
If he insisted on cooperating with Aiden, I couldn't stop him at all.
Alexander smiled, then said, "Didn't you want to get revenge on Aiden? What's this about now?"
Letting Aiden get Jasper's investment meant the company's crisis could be mostly resolved. What remained was hard to say.
I lowered my head, feeling very uncomfortable. Yes, the first step of the revenge I promised him had failed.
"I have other plans." Regardless of what Alexander meant by saying this, since he said it, he was reminding me.
Actually, after I talked with Jasper, I had already thought of how to get revenge on Aiden.
It was time to take the initiative to meet Aiden.
Alexander looked down at me, his gaze sweeping over my belly, "I told you, everything must be based on the child being safe."
"I understand. I won't let anything happen to the child."
Alexander didn't stay long and left the office.
In the afternoon, I took the initiative to send Aiden a message. The phone was immediately called back.
Suppressing the nausea in my heart, I pressed the answer button.
Aiden's cold voice came from the other end, "Elizabeth, you finally couldn't help but come begging me?"
"You think you can stay by Alexander's side with that child in your belly? Think about what his status is. A woman like you, whose family went bankrupt, could never get any benefits."
"I can give you one last chance. Come back to me obediently, and I'll love you as I did before."
Aiden's endless chatter came from the other end of the phone. I almost thought I had answered the wrong call.
Aiden had expressed his love for Bianca in such a public setting and completely cut ties with me.
Now he was still saying such things so matter-of-factly.
Sometimes I wondered if there was something wrong with his brain. It was unbearable.
I didn't respond, and he got anxious first, "Are you there? Are you even listening to me?"
