Chapter 20 20
Chapter 20 20
Karin's POV
I woke in the darkness; the glow of the Los Angeles city lights filtered through the room. It was late—or early. About four in the morning, I thought. We hadn’t shut the drapes before going to sleep.
What a night.
We had devoured each other until there was nothing left.
I stared at him as he lay flat on his back, exhausted, sleeping. I didn’t know what we were to each other, but I did know that he was my sexual soulmate. Was that even a thing? Our bodies were like animals with each other; neither of us could get enough.
The thirst just couldn’t be quenched. If he woke now, I would be instantly aroused, as I knew he would be too.
He was right—this was primal.
Thirsty, I climbed out of bed, threw on his robe, and made my way to the kitchen in search of water. We had left the lamps on, so the rooms were partially lit. I didn’t even remember getting to the bedroom.
I found a glass and poured myself some water from the fridge, and as I looked around, my heart dropped. What the hell kind of kitchen was this? It was like a restaurant.
I walked back into the living room and stared out over the city, far below. My eyes roamed over the apartment, and my heart fluttered. This was real money. Stupid money. My entire apartment would fit into his bedroom alone. What did a place like this cost?
Our clothes were strewn all over the floor, and I picked them up, folding them onto the coffee table. Something light blinked on the floor.
I frowned and bent to pick up Adrien’s phone. It must have fallen out of his pocket as we were undressing. The screen lit up with a new message, and the name Josephine flashed across it:
Where are you?
Did your meeting go late?
I stared at the phone. What the fuck?
Who was Josephine?
Adrien.
I woke to the sound of my alarm, smiling as I stretched; I was sated and sleepy. Relaxed for the first time in a long time.
What a night… what a woman.
I reached for Karin and frowned when I realized she wasn’t in bed with me. She must be in the bathroom. I dozed for another twenty minutes, and eventually, when she didn’t return, I got up.
“Karin?” I called as I walked into the bathroom. It was empty.
I stepped out into the living area. “Karin?” I called again. Silence.
“Where is she?” I looked around and saw my clothes folded on the coffee table—and noticed that hers… were gone.
“Karin?” I called, doing a 360 of my apartment. “Karin?”
I clenched my jaw as my anger began to escalate. I dialed her number, a shade of red clouding my vision. I could hear my furious heartbeat in my ears as adrenaline pumped through my bloodstream.
“Hello,” she answered.
“Where the fuck are you?” I sneered.
