Chapter 15
She's clinging to James? What a joke!
She married into the Smith family because they forced her, but somehow everyone thought she schemed her way in.
Emily didn't bother explaining to Mia. She just wanted to wait for James to come back and tell him she was leaving.
She wouldn't interfere with his mistresses, but that didn't mean she had no temper and would let them bully her.
Mia was about to say something when the office door opened and James walked in.
"James, you're done with your meeting."
As soon as she saw him, Mia's demeanor changed instantly. She ran up to him and clung to his arm affectionately.
James instinctively glanced at Emily before looking down at Mia, his brows furrowing. "What are you doing here?"
"Of course, I'm here to see you," Mia said sweetly. "I had a bad attitude the other day and made you angry. I came to apologize."
The other day? That was the day James had sent her home. No wonder he came back so early; he must have had a rough time with Mia.
Who would have thought that the usually strong and cold James could be so humble in front of the woman he liked?
Men really did treat the women they liked and disliked differently.
Remembering what Mia had said in the car that day, James frowned irritably. "We've already talked about it. There's no need to bring it up again."
"So, James, are you not mad at me anymore?" Mia pouted, shaking James's arm, her eyes glancing at Emily with a smug look.
James looked at Emily, seeing no change in her expression, which inexplicably annoyed him.
Seeing him so close to another woman, she had no reaction at all?
"James, I know a new restaurant that just opened. Will you have dinner with me tonight? You haven't had dinner with me in a long time."
Since he got married, he hadn't replied to her messages or answered her calls. Her intuition told her she was losing James.
She had to seize the opportunity and make Emily back off.
James pulled his arm away without looking at her and walked straight to Emily. "Let's go home."
Seeing him ignore her and go to Emily, Mia was furious.
Emily looked up in surprise, her eyes meeting his deep gaze. After a moment, she said, "Home?"
"Unless you plan to spend the night in my office?"
Glancing at Mia, she looked back at James. "Aren't you going to accompany Ms. Wilson?"
Mia had just invited him. He should be reluctant to refuse, right?
James's eyes turned cold, staring at her with some annoyance. "Do you want me to accompany Mia?"
Emily was stunned. What did he mean by that? Was he testing her?
Her mind raced. "I said before I wouldn't interfere with you and Ms. Wilson. If you want to be with her, go ahead. I'll take a cab home."
She thought he would be pleased with her understanding.
However, after she said this, James's gaze felt like ice, and his anger seemed ready to explode.
"Why are you looking at me like that? I'm not stopping you."
She had given them space, so why was he still angry?
"Emily, are you being sarcastic? You want me to be with Mia and then go complain to my father?"
Emily must be addicted to complaining, always looking for a chance to get him in trouble.
So it was a test!
Afraid of being misunderstood, Emily quickly raised three fingers in a vow. "Don't worry, I won't complain. Whenever you want to date Ms. Wilson, I'll cover for you. Just occasionally come with me to the Johnson Villa to reassure my parents."
A surge of anger coursed through him. She was so generous, willing to cover for her husband to date another woman just to reassure her parents.
His fists clenched tightly, James sneered. "Mrs. Smith, you really are generous!"
"Of course, as long as we can get along peacefully, I'll be generous in many ways."
As long as he didn't target the Johnson family, she would even buy him condoms for his affairs!
The atmosphere grew increasingly tense. Emily felt she must be disturbing them.
Although James didn't like her, she was still his wife. It must be awkward for him to be affectionate with his mistress in front of her.
"Then I won't bother you. Have fun. Don't worry about your dad; I'll handle it."
She gave James a knowing smile and quickly left his office.
As soon as she stepped out, Emily let out a long breath.
She had been so understanding; James owed her a big favor!
James's face darkened, staring at the closed office door, his fists making a sound.
With Emily gone, Mia's eyes gleamed with satisfaction.
She walked behind James and hugged his waist. "It seems Emily doesn't like you. Otherwise, what woman could watch her husband alone with another woman?"
James knew Emily didn't like him, but hearing it from Mia made him inexplicably annoyed.
He pried her hands off his waist, looking at her with disgust. "If you have nothing else, you should leave."
"I'll stay with you, James. You need a woman by your side. Even if you won't marry me, I want to be with you."
Mia tried to throw herself into James's arms, but he dodged her.
His face remained cold, his eyes filled with nothing but disgust. "I don't need you."
Mia stumbled, barely steadying herself. Tears welled up as she looked at James's disgusted face. "James, I really love you. I don't ask for a title; I just want to be your woman."
If she could win James's heart, she could eventually make Emily give up her position as his wife!
"Mia, I'll say this one last time. I don't like you and won't sleep with you because I'm not interested in you!"
Her intentions were clear to James. She just wanted to marry into the Smith family!
Not interested—those words were the biggest insult to a woman. Mia's face turned pale.
"Why?" She looked at James, unwilling to accept it, tears streaming down her face.
In terms of looks and figure, how was she inferior to Emily? Why was he not interested in her?
