Chapter 64 Bella's POV
Chapter Sixty-four
Bella’s POV
“No… he didn't move,” he paused. “He was just looking up… at our window.”
A cold shiver slid down my spine.
“It's okay, sweetheart,” I replied, smoothing his hair. “Mommy will check.”
He nodded slowly.
I swallowed a lump in my throat and walked towards the window.
I pulled the curtains slowly… just enough to take a peek. Outside was still quiet.
My eyes scanned the dim street carefully, from left to right… across the yard.
There was no one across the yard.
I closed the curtains gently and turned back to him. “It's okay, baby. There's no one there.”
Noah yawned sleepily and nodded.
I forced my voice to be calm. “Thank you for telling, mommy. You did the right thing.”
I kissed his forehead and took him to the bedroom where I tucked him to bed. He curled against me and drifted off to sleep.
I slid out of bed carefully, so that I won't wake him. I walked towards the kitchen sink and poured myself a glass of water to calm my nerves.
I took a slow sip and let the water settle on my tongue. My heart wasn't racing anymore, it was just… uneasy.
I rinsed the cup, set it down on the drying rack and quietly made my way to the bathroom.
I locked the door and let out a sigh of relief. I hopped into the hot shower and let the steam work its magic into my pores.
As the water ran down my shoulders, I just felt warmth.
For a moment, it was nice to have silence.
After I finished, I dried my skin and slipped into my nightwear. My hair was damp, so I tied it loosely back.
I padded back slowly into the bedroom and climbed into the bed slowly, beside Noah.
I stared at the ceiling quietly.
Kids see shadows or reflections, but I didn't want to pretend as if it didn't bother me.
What if it was G. D. C? But I didn't want to jump to conclusions.
I pulled Noah closer. His soft breath ticked my arm. I reached out and pulled the blanket closer to his side.
My phone buzzed with a notification but it was probably Daniel checking up on me. I was too tired to check so I did not bother.
I just wanted to sleep. But the thoughts of G. D. C kept disrupting my mind.
What if he was here now, just watching us?
I gripped the blanket even tighter. What exactly is happening and why is it happening to me?
All I wanted was a good place for Noah’s treatment and for me to be able to raise money to take care of him.
I blinked away the tears burning in my eyes and whispered into the darkness. “Why?”
I stared at the ceiling for hours before sleep finally claimed me.
——
I jolted awake with my heart racing.
I had a nightmare that someone was standing at the foot of my bed. He was not speaking, not doing anything, just standing there with the same black jacket Noah had described.
For a moment, I lay there frozen.
Noah was still sleeping quietly behind me, completely unaware.
I placed my palm over my chest and closed my eyes.
“It was just a dream,” I whispered to myself. But it felt so real.
I glanced towards the clock on the table. It was 5:53 am. I had woken up 7 minutes earlier than my alarm clock.
I decided to go back to sleep for a little while. But after turning and tossing for some minutes, I decided it was futile and decided to get ready for work.
By 6:30 am, I had showered, changed and was ready for work.
Noah's nanny already came by. So I kissed Noah goodbye and left for work.
When I got to the office parking lot, I parked in my usual spot. I sat for a few seconds in the car and tried to shake off the weird feeling I got from the nightmare.
I got out of my car slowly and squared my shoulder.
Today, I was going to face Xander after seeing him at the restaurant yesterday.
I got out of the elevator and walked straight into my office. I did not spare Xander’s office a glance.
I turned on the computer system and went straight into work.
Around 10 am, I went outside to make a quick copy of a document with the printer outside.
And that was when I saw Xander.
He was standing outside the hallway with his hands in his pocket, looking as handsome as ever.
It looked like he had been waiting for me.
We just stared at each other for a moment.
He walked towards me slowly. “Good morning, Ms. Reyes.”
“Good morning Mr. Knight,” I replied in a controlled tone.
He scanned my face… like he was trying to read my emotions.
And then it came out. “You were at the cafe yesterday.”
His expression didn't change. He didn't even flinch. “I was.”
He didn't even deny it.
I folded my arms. “Are you stalking me now?”
His eyes narrowed a little like he was annoyed. “I wasn't stalking you,” he replied calmly. “I was getting coffee.”
I scoffed. “You didn't order anything.”
His jaws clenched, but he said nothing.
“So you were watching me and Daniel,” I said quietly.
Xander held my gaze. “I told you I was there for coffee.”
My blood boiled with irritation. “Can you just stop it, Xander. I saw you in the cafe… watching us.”
“You seemed… occupied.”
I raised an eyebrow up. “Occupied? It's none of your business what I do with my personal life.”
He shrugged slightly. “It's my business. You're my staff and that means I am directly responsible for you.”
I threw my hands up in the air in frustration. “Can you even hear yourself, Xander? Stay out of my personal life, stop stalking me.
“And what if I can't?”
