**Fallon**
It was cold out. I had to stop sleeping with the window open. I got so hot while I was sleeping that the cool air in the middle of the night felt great, but I would wake up freezing every morning. I decided to just get up. It was 5:45am. The sun had not even rose yet. I walked into the kitchen, much to my surprise, Miles was awake and brewing coffee.
“Good morning.” I smiled at him. I really didn’t talk much with him anymore.
“Good morning, momma!” He said, looking down at my stomach. “You’re starting to show!” I laughed at his amusement. He came over and kissed me on the cheek. “It’s good to see you in good spirits, Fallon. I missed you.” He walked back over and poured a cup of coffee. He gestured for me to have one and I nodded quickly. “Wait, can you have coffee?” I laughed and told him yes, one cup a day was fine!
He took the cups and walked out onto the screened in porch. It was beautiful up here. I had never been to New England before. The trees were old and large, the grass was green, and the sky was almost closer to the earth. I grabbed two blankets out of the sitting room and followed him outside. The sun was just starting to come up. The air was crisp. I wrapped up in my blanket and sipped on my coffee. This was nice. Miles and I made small talk and laughed. I missed this, him, James, and Claire. I needed to make more of an effort with them, this was no any of their faults.
James joined us. Miles told him to check out my belly, when James did his eyebrows shot up. “Wow, you’re pregnant!” He exclaimed. Miles went back in for a refill and James sat down next to me. “I always thought that when you got pregnant, it would be our baby.” He was sad. “I hate that you’re growing that man’s child in you.” My eyes dropped to the floor. I had never really thought about having children, but I did always see myself with James. I felt a tear coming on, so I wiped my face and stood up.
“Breakfast?” I asked trying to change the subject. He smiled smally and nodded his head. I went inside to the powder room and blew my nose. I sat for a moment praying that this feeling would pass, when it did I went into the kitchen and took the eggs, bacon, bread, and butter out of the fridge. The kitchen was large for a vacation home. The stove was vintage, but the fridge, microwave, and dishwasher were all modern. The floor was a red tile, the cabinets were natural wood, and the countertops were butcher block.
I made scrambled eggs, bacon, and toast. Claire was still sleeping so I set the table and called in the guys. They came in eager and chowed down on the food. I made a small plate because food still made me a little queasy.
We ate and made small talk. Claire finally joined us, sitting next to James. They had been together since we came here. “Today we go into town.” I said getting up and starting to clean the kitchen. We went into town every Wednesday to get groceries and do business at the Mini-Mart. Once everyone was finished eating and the kitchen was cleaned we got ready to leave for town.
