Chapter 23

The plane was beautiful with cream furniture and flooring. When you got onto the plane there was a bathroom and bedroom with a queen-sized mattress. When you got into the seating area of the plane in the back were two bench seats on either side of the plane, then there was a table with two seats facing each other on one side of the plane and 2 bucket seats that faced each other on the other side. It was intimate yet spacious.

Maximo was in the bucket seat towards the very front looking back at the rest of the plane. I was sitting at the table across from Ali and the bodyguards sat on the sofas. James refused to look at me. It hurt that he was treating me this way when he told me to sleep with Maximo.

It wasn’t going to be a long flight, about 3 hours, but I was tired from my morning activities. I pressed my thighs together thinking about it. I looked over at Maximo who was staring at me. I didn’t know how long he had been looking at me, but is gaze was hungry and longing. I gave him a small smile, but he didn’t react or reciprocate. He just turned back to his phone. I sighed and decided to go to the bedroom at the back of the plane.

The bedroom was tight. The queen-sized bed had a white comforter and white sheets. There was a small closet with nothing in it to the side. There was one table in the corner on the side of the bed. I laid down. The bed was hard, but comfortable. I flipped the comforter on top of me and covered my face. I heard the door open and the bed dip to the weight of someone. I tried to pull the blanket off my face, but the person was over me with their hands holding down the blanket.

Then, Maximo pulled the blanket down to reveal my face. “Hi.” I gave him a smile.

“What are you doing?” He responded.

“Well, this morning, I am a little tired after our extracurricular activities.” He let out a small laugh.

“That was nothing compared to what I will do to you if you say yes to being my wife.” He paused, looking into my eyes. I guess I held my breath and narrowed my eyes at him.

I stared at him, unable to respond. I really thought he was joking. I let out a little laugh, but he glared at me getting up. “You will say yes to me, Fallon, you don’t have a choice.” He hissed and left the room. Wow, again, was that is way of proposing to me? I suddenly realized that he would never actually ask me to marry him, just assume I will and force me to sign the marriage certificate.

I rolled around trying to get comfortable but couldn’t. I was nervous that I pissed off Maximo. How was he going to respond to me after this? I finally gave up on trying to take a nap and decided to sit on the sofa next to James. He didn’t look at me, just kept reading the book he brought along.

Maximo’s eyes narrowed at me; I could hear his breath quickening. “What are you reading?” I asked James, who did not look at me.

“A book.” He responded coolly. I decided not to press him, so I sighed and laid down, lying my legs across his lap. We had always sat like this. It gave me comfort. I felt the guards stiffen around me. I could feel the heat coming off Maximo from across the plane. James didn’t hold my legs like he usually did. He just let me lay them across his lap while he kept reading. I didn’t speak to me or even look at me. I finally closed my eyes and was able to take a nap.
