Chapter 34 Truth or Dare
Truth or Dare
Dylan’s POV
I agreed to the game because saying no would have required an explanation and I didn’t have the energy for that. Vivian had that way about her, the ability to propose something ordinary in a tone that made refusing it seem unreasonable. Besides Vivian doesn’t like it when she gets no for an answer and with everything that’s happened, playing games might help to relieve our stress.
She pulled the blanket back onto her lap and looked at us both with the bright expectation of someone who had already decided how the evening was going to go, and Liam sat in the chair across from her with his arms folded and his expression doing the careful neutral thing it did when he was controlling himself in her presence.
“What game do you suggest we play?” I asked her as I sat down.
“Truth or dare, don’t you remember us playing it as kids? It was so fun back then.” She said and looked at Liam while smiling. She was intentionally trying to provoke him.
“Should I go first?” I asked.
“Sure,” she nodded.
“Truth or dare?” I asked her.
“Truth.” She said.
“Have you been living well?” I asked.
“Yes, I have,” she said with a smile. “During my time in the north. I enjoyed everyday, going on trips, testing new foods and making friends. I also learnt how to paint.”
“That’s good to hear.” I said and turned to Liam. “Truth or dare?”
“Truth.” He said while his eyes was on Vivian.
“Don’t you have a girlfriend? Why are you always around Dylan?” Vivian asked him immediately, not giving me the chance.
“Because I want to be around him, how is that your concern?” Liam replied rudely.
“It’s okay, I guess it’s my turn now.” I let out a dry laugh. “I will choose truth.”
“How well did you enjoy our childhood?” She asked while glaring at Liam.
I saw what she did there, she asked this to keep provoking Liam.
“Well, it was…”
“Enjoyable right?” She cut in. “Do you remember how we used to play around, plucking mangoes from the ice cream uncle’s house. It was so much fun.” She laughed. “Even when your mom gave you pocket money for one week and we spent it at the karaoke in a day, I think we were in high school back then...”
I looked at Liam from the corner of my eyes. Man was already foaming in anger. He was hearing parts of me he hadn’t known yet by someone he despised so much. I could see the discomfort on his jaw and if Vivian continued speaking, Liam would go berserk for sure.
“Let’s switch to dare, I pick dare.” I said with a dry laugh. “Liam should do it this time.”
“I don’t know how to play the game.” Liam said.
Vivian smiled like he had been holding a lot of it in since we got here.
“Since you dared, I dare you to kiss me.” She said.
I felt everything I had been trying not to let out of my hands slip. Liam was out of his chair before I could think about it. He reached for Vivian and he pulled her away from the couch and pushed her towards the wall. The light went off immediately.
“Liam, please don’t,” I said as I held his arm.
His vampire was already surfacing. The muscle in his jaw was tight and his eyes were almost red and pushed almost to the point his control was uncomfortably managing. He looked at Vivian, but Vivian didn’t notice his form, thank goodness for the light that went off.
Vivian laughed out and went back to the couch. “What an interesting show. Do you perhaps have bipolar disorder or any mental illness?” She asked in between a laugh.
“That’s enough, Vivian. Must you two fight every single day?” I asked while still holding Liam in the dark.
Vivian looked at the both of us even though she couldn’t see our faces. Then she lay on the couch and covered herself with the blanket.
“That's enough for tonight,” she said lightly, like nothing had happened, and reached for her phone. “Goodnight all.”
She slept on the couch while Liam and I took the bedroom. Immediately I closed the door, Liam grabbed me and pinned me to the wall. He was breathing through his mouth and I could feel his breath on my lips.
