Chapter 141 Michael, This Is Called Karma
Lily's lips curled into a cold smile. "Yes, you'll find out after I leave the hospital."
"Why are you being so mysterious at a time like this? Can't you just tell us?" Austin replied.
"Tell you directly? That's exactly what I did when I got hurt, and what happened? I don't trust you guys!" Lily's tone was unfriendly.
Austin was caught off guard. "But you should trust Michael, right?"
"In my eyes, you're all the same to me."
Austin changed the subject. "Lily, Michael's health isn't good right now. His stomach problem has gotten worse. The doctor says his bad mood has made it serious. Please see him."
Hearing this, Lily spoke flatly, "Last night I dreamed about the car accident when Mom and Dad died."
Austin froze. "Did you remember something?"
"No, just some fragments, and the sound of Mom and Dad calling my name. Since they died, deep down you've all been blaming me. If I hadn't insisted on going out to buy that cake for my birthday, the accident wouldn't have happened."
She had believed that in her past life too, which was why she had always tried so hard to please her brothers.
Austin sighed. "Those were just things we said when we were kids. We didn't mean it. This isn't your fault—it was an accident!"
"Right, I think so too now. Because in my dream, Mom and Dad kept telling me to run." Lily wiped the tears from the corners of her eyes. "Seeing me reminds you of Mom and Dad's death, and it's the same for me. So let's just keep our distance. So let's just keep our distance. We're better off as strangers.. If there's really something, we can text."
After saying this, Lily hung up.
She had always known her brothers resented her. No one mentioned it, but that didn't mean it wasn't there.
After hanging up, Austin felt inexplicably sad.
Though he said it was an accident, he had indeed been subconsciously blaming Lily.
Blaming Lily for insisting on going out to buy that cake, which led to the accident that killed their parents!
That day, they had all lost their parents.
"Austin, did Lily say what the evidence is?" Michael's face looked terrible, his eyes filled with hope.
Austin gripped his phone and could only lower his head in silence.
Michael understood. He turned his head and wiped the tears from his eyes. "Tell me, if I give my life to Lily, will she forgive me?"
Michael's tone became more serious. "Austin, have someone investigate everything about Sophie. This time, we must protect Lily."
Since David didn't believe him, he would find evidence to make David believe!
Sophie had to go.
After hanging up, Lily thought about Michael's expression at the coffee shop—angry and shocked.
Her lips curled coldly. Sophie would probably accuse Michael of having no evidence in front of David, too.
Given David's personality, he definitely wouldn't believe Michael either. What a shame she wasn't there to witness that scene in person.
What goes around comes around.
But this wasn't over. Since David was protecting Sophie, the murderer, and wanted to go after Maple Leaf Corporation to monopolize the AI market.
She would never let David get his way.
During the day, after the doctor's examination, he said she could be discharged.
After changing clothes, Lily immediately went to find Dennis and found him sitting up, eating.
"How are you today?"
"I can leave the ICU soon."
Dennis knew his sudden accident had scared everyone at home, especially his mom.
Fortunately, there was Eric, or Lily would have been in trouble.
Dennis put down his fork. "I talked to Eric on the phone. The computer and USB drive are gone now, and the key evidence is gone too."
"I know. I have other ways." She understood Sophie and the Roberts family well. There were many ways to deal with them.
She used to just find the Roberts family suffocating and desperately wanted to leave.
But now she wouldn't hide anymore.
Dennis looked at Lily deeply. Sometimes, he felt Lily seemed old beyond her years, with expressions too mature for someone her age.
After chatting for a while, Lily stood up. "I'll go handle the discharge procedures and head back to school. I'll come see you again later."
"No need. I'll be discharged soon, too. Don't worry about me," Dennis explained.
Fortunately, the car had been modified, or he would have probably died in that accident.
He wouldn't give up pursuing this matter.
No evidence, but there were plenty of ways to deal with the Harper family.
But he didn't plan to tell Lily—he didn't want to involve her.
Lily left the ICU and happened to run into the beautiful woman she'd seen yesterday.
They both froze.
Olivia spoke first. "We meet again. Are you here to see Dennis?"
"Yes. Are you here to see him, too?"
Seeing the beautiful woman in front of her, Lily couldn't help wondering what their relationship was. Friends?
Olivia smiled. "Yes, his mother asked me to bring him some food. When he's discharged, let's all have dinner together."
Lily smiled awkwardly. She watched the woman walk away, a knot forming in her stomach.
What was Dennis's relationship with this woman?
Lily's steps paused. Should she go back and check?
But in the end, Lily didn't have the courage. She took the elevator back to her room.
She didn't know what to consider Dennis now. Her mind was a mess.
A nurse came over. "Ms. Roberts, your discharge papers are ready."
"Got it, thanks." Before leaving, Lily sent Dennis a message: [I'm leaving now. Rest well.]
After receiving the message, Dennis's eyes showed a hint of warmth: [About the wound on your forehead, I'll send you some scar removal cream later. It works really well.]
"Dennis, did you hear what I said?" Olivia looked at Dennis carefully and noticed his expression was very gentle while looking at his phone.
Who had just messaged him?
The moment Dennis looked up, his expression became much colder. "I'll talk to my mom myself. I don't need you as a messenger."
"Dennis, do you have to be so cold to me? Everyone's saying you were in a car accident because you went out with some girl..."
"You can leave now. Take your stuff with you." Dennis's handsome face was cold as he looked at Olivia without any emotional response.
Olivia felt unwilling. "Dennis, I don't mind what you do outside. I'll take good care of your mom and be a good wife."
"Olivia, you and my mom have been spreading rumors that we're engaged. But you know very well I never agreed to this. There's never been anything between us." Dennis looked directly at Olivia.
Olivia's face darkened considerably. "But we're a good match. What's wrong with an arranged marriage? You changed a lot after going to Imperial City. Did you fall for some girl there?"
"That's none of your concern. Leave!" Dennis said harshly.
Olivia stood up indignantly. She had to find out who that girl was.
Could it be the girl she just saw?
