Chapter 139 Stop Believing Sophie

Chapter 139 Stop Believing Sophie

"David, you can send someone to check the cafe's surveillance footage!" Michael said, then looked at Sophie. "The cafe's surveillance can prove what I'm saying, and also show how she begged for mercy."

Sophie felt so guilty that she kept her eyes down. She was so panicked that she broke into a cold sweat.

David frowned. "Michael, I'll trust what you say one more time. But if the surveillance footage we get doesn't prove your point, don't blame me for not believing you."

"Fine," Michael said coldly. "Sophie, are you still not going to tell the truth?"

"Michael, everything I said is true." Sophie didn't dare look Michael in the eye, but there was no way she would admit it.

If they really got the surveillance video, she needed to come up with an excuse.

She'd already lost Michael's trust - she couldn't lose David's, too.

Maybe she should contact that person. Sophie picked up the fruit plate. "David, let me go wash some more fruit."

"Stop right there! Until we get the cafe surveillance back, you're not leaving here. I won't let you contact the Harper family to tamper with evidence!" Michael knew Sophie didn't have that kind of power herself, but the Harper family did!

Sophie had no choice but to stand there. Inside, she was panicking terribly, every second feeling like an eternity.

Soon, David got a call from his secretary. "Did you get the surveillance?"

"What? The cafe caught fire last night and all the surveillance was destroyed?"

David found this whole thing a bit strange.

When Sophie heard this news, she finally breathed a sigh of relief. Good that it burned - at least she'd dodged this bullet!

She didn't know if that man did it or if the Harper family made their move!

Either way, she was safe.

Sophie noticed Michael's gaze and shrank back. "Michael, you don't think I did this, do you? Last night when you were sick, I was the one at the hospital watching over you. Besides, I wouldn't have the guts to set a fire!"

"You couldn't do it, but the Harper family could! You contacted someone from the Harper family; otherwise, how would they know about the surveillance video so early?" Michael pulled out his phone. "Even though the cafe surveillance was destroyed, there are still witnesses!"

The phone played a video - it was a server from the cafe.

Sophie was extremely nervous now. Impossible!

"Yesterday I did see four people arguing over there. One girl pulled out a laptop and seemed to open some surveillance video. Another girl was begging for mercy, like she'd done something wrong and got caught," Michael said.

Sophie could barely stand steady, her whole body trembling.

Michael looked over. "Now what do you have to say?"

Sophie looked at David. "David, what was on Lily's laptop yesterday was indeed bar surveillance, but the Harper family had already deleted the part about Samantha. Lily was pressing me about this, trying to make me testify.

I was scared - the Harper family won't let me go.

Michael was also pressuring me to agree. I had no choice but to kneel and beg them not to treat me like that."

Michael's voice was ice. "Sophie, you're lying!"

"I'm not lying. To pressure us, Lily said a lot of infuriating things. That's why you got so angry, you passed out, Michael. Have you forgotten?" Sophie choked up and wiped her tears. "Since Michael thinks I'm the culprit, I'll go to the police station and turn myself in."

Sophie turned and ran out of the hospital room.

She had to leave, or who knows what else Michael would do.

David said somewhat angrily, "How can you talk to Sophie like that? You can't make Sophie take the blame just to clear Lily's name, can you? This was clearly done by the Harper family!"

"David, Sophie really isn't what she appears to be on the surface. I only discovered this after seeing the surveillance video." Michael explained seriously.

"Enough. Just focus on getting better. Sophie will stay by my side from now on - you don't need to worry about it." After David finished speaking, he also hurried out of the hospital room.

Seeing that David didn't believe him, Michael was so upset he coughed up fresh blood.

This was what he deserved - his just punishment!

"Michael, why are you coughing up blood?"

Austin quickly helped Michael up. "I just saw David leave with Sophie. What happened? David said you're trying to send Sophie to jail just for Lily's sake!"

"Austin, do you believe me?"

"Of course, I believe you."

Michael told him everything that happened at the cafe yesterday. "That's what happened, but now the surveillance is destroyed and David doesn't believe what I'm saying."

Austin found himself caught in a dilemma. "Michael, it's not that I don't believe you, but if I hadn't seen the surveillance video myself, I couldn't believe that Sophie could be so calculating and would drug Lily. This is just too unbelievable."

"I know, you can't accept it right away either. If I hadn't seen the surveillance video with my own eyes, I wouldn't believe it either!" Michael's face was pale, his chest tight with difficulty breathing. "But don't easily believe what Sophie says anymore.

Sophie is not a good person."

Seeing Michael in such pain and distress, Austin couldn't bring himself to say what was on his mind.

He nodded in agreement. "Okay, I promise you."

Actually, he had his doubts too, wondering if there was some misunderstanding between Lily and Sophie!

But Michael's condition looked really, really bad.

Michael grabbed Austin's hand, his voice trembling. "Also, find out why Lily took sick leave and which hospital she's in. Go see her for me and tell her that even if it costs Michael his life, he'll get justice for her!"

This was what he owed Lily!

Austin could only agree. After leaving the hospital room, he immediately tried to find out which hospital Lily was in.

He tried to message Lily, only to discover she'd already deleted him.

He had no choice but to call Lily, only to find he'd been blocked.

Only now did Austin realize that he seemed to be cut off from Lily.

Austin had to use a different phone number to call Lily. This time, she answered quickly. "Lily, it's me."

Hearing Austin's voice, Lily's tone was cold. "What is it?"

"Michael is in the hospital now, in pretty bad shape. If you're free, come see him. He's really worried about you!"

"Doesn't Michael have Sophie taking care of him? He doesn't need me at all."

"Michael really doesn't like Sophie now. He's already sent her away."

Thinking about what Michael had said, Austin couldn't help asking, "Lily, what happened to you at the bar that day - did Sophie really drug you?"

"Did you guys see the surveillance video?"

"No, Michael said the USB drive went missing. He suspects Sophie took it, but there's no proof!"

Hearing this, Lily had actually already guessed as much.

What a coincidence!

"Sophie's luck is really good - she managed to dodge this one too."

Austin couldn't help but speak up. "Is there some misunderstanding between you and Sophie? Did she really do these things?"

Austin still found it hard to believe!

"Go back and warn Sophie that she got lucky and escaped this time, but this isn't over yet. "Tell her to enjoy her luck while it lasts - I'm coming for her!"" After Lily finished speaking, she hung up, not wanting to waste another word on anyone from the Roberts family.

She looked at Eric. "My brother Michael's USB drive was taken by Sophie."

"Why did Michael have to pass out at that exact moment, giving that bitch Sophie the opportunity! Since the surveillance is all destroyed, we can't do anything to them this time."

Lily sneered. "No, even if the surveillance is destroyed, I still have a way."

She wasn't going to let this go.
