Chapter 31 Chapter Thirty-one

Chapter 31 Chapter Thirty-one
Elena's POV

"Oh goodness!" She chuckled nervously as she turned from us. "I didn't expect to find anyone on the roof. And I didn't even know that you were around. Forgive me, I'll go."

Nikolai didn't say anything; he just let her keep speaking before she turned away. She was already taking the stairs when I finally regained myself and adjusted Nikolai's big Shirt on me, wiping off an invisible dirt from me. "I think I should go to bed as well," I said fast, and without waiting for Nikolai, I took two big strides and hurried out of his presence. I felt embarrassed; if the lady hadn't walked in on us, I guess we would have kissed. Then again, my thoughts wandered, did he want to kiss me as well, or was it me having that thought that he wanted to kiss me? I shake my head, trying to push the thought out of my mind.

I could hear his footstep behind me, but I didn't for once stop or look behind me. I didn't even ask him who the lady was.

I pushed the door to the main building, heading to the stairs when the elderly lady's voice came up. "Off to bed?" I stop in my tracks.

"Yes, ma!" I said without looking at her.

"Emma," this time, my gaze snapped to her, and I looked at her, lost. "We didn't get to introduce ourselves. I'm Emma, Nikolai's maid." She repeated and stretched her hand, I swallowed hard, staring at her outstretched palm. "Sorry,." She apologized, wanting to retrieve her hand. I shook my head, realizing that she thinks that I didn't want to take her hand in mine.

"Sorry," I apologized, taking her hand in mine before she completely retrieved it, "Elena Moretti...." Her brows furrow.

"Don Moretti's daughter?" She asked almost retrieving her hand immediately, and her gaze shifted from me to Nikolai, who just shut the door behind him

"Yes, do you know him?" I find myself asking, hoping she wouldn't say anything bad about my dad. I know my dad is ruthless but I don't think he is a monster that could hurt a female, especially an innocent one.

"Not really." She said softly, but her gaze was still on Nikolai. Then I turned suddenly, and my eyes fell on Nikolai, whose hand was deep in his pocket, and his gaze was everywhere but not on me; he was communicating with his eyes to Lady Emma. "You're Rafael's fiancée?" She asked suddenly, drawing my attention from Nikolai, now I understand the eye communication.

"I'll go to bed," I said fast, not wanting to hear the reminder that I was about to kiss a man when I was supposed to be the fiancée of another, not just another, his brother. I know that look, even if she didn't say a word, I could tell that was what her thoughts were.

"Nikolai..." I heard the elderly lady call him softly, like he wanted to reprimand him; somehow, I think they were both too close for just an employer-employee relationship. I didn't wait to hear their conversation, I hurried to the room that Nikolai had given to me. Immediately, I pushed the door open, and it was my phone's ringtone that alerted me.

I grabbed the phone, and I sighed as I realized it was Rafael who was calling. It's past midnight, why is he still calling? I pressed the answer button and remained silent.

"Why the fuck is she not taking my calls?" I heard him complain, he had no idea that I had already answered.

"Rafael, who are you calling? Elena again?" Her voice echoes from the other side of the room. Oh mine! He is with Arabella, when I thought that he had sent that bitch home and was worried for me.

No! She was still clinging to him. Always there like the real fiancée while I was the mistress.

"Yes, she told me, she was here, and now she is nowhere around the mansion, and the security didn't seem to know where she went."

"Maybe she wants a quiet time; she would be fine."

"Is that the reason, she is not taking my calls?" His voice was filled with irritation right now.

"Stop worrying about it, just help me unhook my bra." I blinked, did I hear wrong? Rafael was unhooking her bra, which means she wasn't wearing clothes. I ended the call in anger, wanting to hit the phone against the wall, but then I remembered it's my phone, not that asshole's phone.

I tried to book a flight. I need to leave this place first thing in the morning tomorrow; I'm not staying here one more time. I'm tired of Rafael and Arabella. The flight search loaded slowly as if it were teasing me. I selected my departure city, the destination, and date. A wheel spun at the center of the screen. I waited impatiently, for the final result.

NO AVAILABLE FLIGHT

I blinked, "No, this can't be happening," I muttered under my breath. I refreshed the page. Nothing. I tried a different airline's website. Still nothing. I couldn't remember the number of airlines I had tried; the same bold message appeared, and my stomach dropped.

Every flight had been sold out, and last-minute booking was impossible. I guess it was the season that had made the last-minute flight unavailable.

I hated this, I pushed my fingers into my hair in frustration, throwing my head behind me, I need to get out of here, even if I had to pay high price and I don't want to call Shannon, or father, requesting if I could travel in the private jet, if I do, they will find out something is wrong and father is going to freak-out and I will have to spill everything I had endure since I arrive here.

Still thinking about what to do, Rafael's call came up again, and I grabbed my phone in anger this time, my voice filled with anger. Immediately, I took the call, "What is it? Isn't Arabella enough for you?" I yelled.

"What the fuck?" He cursed, probably pulling the phone from his ear, before he sighed, "Where are you?"

"Didn't I tell you that I'm home in my bed?"

"Elena, stop playing games with me, where are you, I've practically searched everywhere for you, and you're not here,"

"Maybe, you didn't search well. Maybe, you're too busy unhooking Arabella's bra, that you couldn't see anything else except her..."

"Elena!" He grunts. "Fuck!" he cursed, then his voice softened, "Tell me, where the fuck are you? I will come get you."

"I'm fine, don't worry about me, just focus on Arabella, your secretary, or maybe, your girlfriend."

"Can you just stop?" He snapped, I know Rafael, he is getting mad, and he didn't like my tone, he was just trying to control his anger. "Arabella is not my girlfriend, and stop dragging an innocent girl into your insecurities."

"Wow!" I exclaimed, "Just wow, I'm the one who is insecure, when you are the one, flirting with another female in front of me."

"I wasn't flirting with her." He growled, "Just tell me where you are. I wouldn't want anything to happen to you, and Don Moretti coming after me."

I interrupted him, "So this is not about you caring about me? It’s about you being scared of what my father would do to you, if he finds out something happened to me in the city of Italy, where I came to visit my so-called fiancée, who abandoned me and picked his secretary..."

"Stop being childish, Elena, and tell me where the hell you are,"

"Good, you know where I am. I'm in hell, find me there." I pressed the end button before he could say whatever he intended to say. This time, I turned it off before I dropped my phone back on the bed, I was getting irritated, so I pulled off the pajamas leaving just the big t-shirt I was wearing

I tried to catch some sleep, but sleep was far from it: "fuck this..." I curse. Whenever I'm worked up, I barely sleep. I need to have a glass of milk, because I know I can't sleep. So I slipped off the bed and walked to the kitchen to grab some milk. I'm hoping I could find some.

I pulled the fridge door, pulled out the milk, and closed the door. I turned to leave, only to freeze in my tracks. A gun was aimed at me in the dark kitchen that I didn't bother to put on the light, my breath caught in my chest, "Oh my God! Please don't kill me."
