Wayward Nat

Wayward Nat
Edgar
Present day

I flew over the area in large circles. The air had a nip to it but I kept my eyes scanning the ground. I didn't know just how fast she could move, nor did I know which way she had gone. With the sun not bothering her, it could have been any directions. Going to the north would have put her closer to the city. I didn't think that she would go that way. So I went south to see if she had gone that way. The only thing I saw in the three hours I flew was a mouse that was running from something. The decision to head back to the house didn't seem great, but I needed to get something to eat and drink. Unlike most birds I needed to eat and drink, though I had trouble with the taste of blood. Human blood was the worst. When I landed in the house on the couch I saw Draven looking at me.

"Nothing so far. I didn't think she would go north, with her mind in a twist. So I went south but found nothing." Edgar told him "I am not sure how fast she is so that is part of the issue."

"I don't really know either, we never got to test it. She just wanted to be herself and not test everything." Draven hated himself for not pushing her to do some of the test.

I tipped my head a little not believeing that Draven would do such a thing. Had he gone soft in his old age? I wasn't really sure how things had changed over the years. I never thought I would still be a bird all this time later. The truth was I still didn't know how long it had been since I had legs and arms. Not sure that I would be able to be in human form again.

"You have changed over the years." I tell him with a caw. "Never would have seen you with kids or in love."

"Things change, we change with the times. My parents are still over seas. You happen to be in my mothers house for a few days from what I was told. You didn't even notice." Draven told him with a half smile. "Nat changed my life so much for the better. The twins where a shock to say the least."

"That was your mom?" I couldn't believe it. She didn't even notice who I was. Maybe she thought I was a different talking crow. "How did she not notice who I was."

"No clue maybe she was just to worried about Raven." Draven told me with a sigh.

This was so strange to see him like this. Draven had always been the strongest of us, but now he looked weak with worry for his wife. I turned my head to see Raven come into the room. The bruises had vanished and her lip was healed. She still stewed in the the fact her mother had taken her down a notch or two. It hadn't stopped her from spewing the hate at her mother again. Natalia had been so broken before she even came into the room that Raven should have kept her mouth shut. Maybe they needed to find a witch to teach her a lesson.

"Raven why did you do that to your mom? I mean you got your ass handed to you for being a welp. Then you take and stab her over and over again the next day when she was already down." I cawed toward her seeing the anger in her eyes. "Go ahead fang girl, get mad again. You got what you should have gotten."

"Shut up you stupid bird." Raven tossed a book at me but I moved before it could hit me. "It's your fault."

"Oh no putting that on me. Your insane girlie. Maybe you should get your head checked." I told her as I flew back out of the window to see if I could find Nat.

On the way out I grabbed some food, a little drink and headed south. Something told me that she was headed that way. I flew for hours, I saw something strange over three hours away from the house. It looked like someone had fallen or tripped leaving a trail of broken tree limbs. When I landed on the rock I smelled blood, but it wasn't human. It didn't really smell vampire either. It was rather strange, but I had to put it to the side for now. Slowing I flew up just to the canopy slowly making circles around the area. I found foot prints going toward a cave that was near by.

"Ahh the missing mother in hiding in a cave?" I cawed into the cave. "I would have thought with the way you went at it last night you would be a beast at this."

"I should have cooked you last night." Nat said as she stepped out of the cave. "Last night was horrible."

"You might think so, but it wasn't really. Raven needed to see that you wouldn't take her shit any more. That little vampy princess needed a good ass kicking. Though I don't think you should have killed me. That was rather rude." I hopped over to the log she sat on.

"You didn't stay dead however. Wish I would have known that before hand." Nat looked up at the sky then down to me. "So you can't die?"

"Not really, I am sure there is a way I would stay dead. The witches that cursed me decided I should have to stay this way forever so I wouldn't harm any of them again." I tell her with a huff. "I never thought about what they went through when I did what I did. I have learned that lesson."

"Raven needs to learn that lesson." Nat told me but I don't think she meant in the same fashion I did.

"I almost agree with you. She is high strung and thinks she is better than everyone. Even the grandparents had trouble with her." I told her then huffed. "Kind of funny she would have been a queen back in my time. Strong and not taking shit."

"Well she is royal." Nat laughed at the thought. "Couldn't see her as a queen though. She can't keep herself from pissed people off. All she has to do is open her mouth. Even then she can just give you a look that makes you shiver."

"I think you shocked her last night. She didn't know you could act like that. Maybe a little more of that and she would cut the shit out. Be careful with her because she might end up like me one day." I jumped down spreading my wings. "I am going to let them know I found you. I won't say where. It is up to you on when you want to come back. I don't suggest staying out for to much longer, rain is coming."
