Chapter 29

After his phone call with Chichi ended, another call came in and when Dare saw the caller ID, his first instinct was to ignore the call, but his curiosity wouldn’t let him.

“Yes?” He snarled when he answered the call.

“Um, hi,” the caller sounded hesitant. “I, um… I just wanted to apologize for what happened yesterday. It was completely out of character for me, and I am deeply sorry.”

“Are you?” He asked pointedly.

“Why, yes. I am very sorry. I shouldn’t have raised the issue the way I did, but I merely wanted you to know the truth about what sort of person that girl is.”

“What is your bone of contention with her? Don’t lie to me, Jemimah. I want the truth. Why do you have a problem with me dating Tiara?”

“The girl is classless, and I don’t mean that as an insult, but she’s so entitled and greedy. Why would you want to settle for such? Listen, I can arrange for a very decent girl for you right now if you want. Not that tacky girl with no manners. Besides, you can see now that she can’t be trusted. Tiara does not have even one loyal bone in her body, she would sleep with all your friends and your male relatives if they so much as looked in her direction, and she would do it for free too.”

Dare sighed. He had hoped to get some sensible answers from Jemimah, but this conversation was turning out to be a complete waste of time. It was like he had opened Pandora’s box and all sorts of nastiness were coming out of it. Nevertheless, there was something very vindictive in the way Jemimah kept going on and on about Tiara’s character that made him curious. Dare was a smart man, and he knew there was more to this woman’s hatred for Tiara, and he knew he would eventually find out one way or another.

“Ok, Jemimah,” he said wearily. “I’ve heard everything you’ve said. And thank you for the offer, but no.”

“Oh,” she sounded disappointed. “If you say so. I’m sorry once again for my behavior. Is there a way I can make it up to you?”

“Apology accepted, and no, you don’t have to make up for anything. All is forgiven, trust me.”

“I’m happy to hear that. Oh, by the way, will you be hosting any events any time soon? I’ve just recruited a new batch of hot girls, you know, those nubile, sexy types you like.”

That word, nubile, sent Dare down memory lane to the massage room in the Maldives. He remembered how he’d slow fucked Tiara in that scented, darkroom, and his dick twitched in his pants. Damn!

“I’m not hosting any event any time soon, but I’ll let you know when I decide to,” he was growing impatient with Jemimah’s endless ramblings, and he couldn’t wait for the phone call to end.

“I’ll look forward to your call then. Don’t forget, if you need a girl to relax with you for the rest of the weekend, just give me a call as usual and she’ll be with you in a jiffy.”

“Ok, thanks,” he said dismissively and hung up. He didn’t want just any girl, he wanted Tiara, but he was so mad at her, he was afraid he might wring her neck if she showed up in front of him right now. He was so hurt by her infidelity, but it didn’t change the fact that he still wanted her, needed her.

He ran a hand over his face and leaned back on his orthopedic chair. He’d thought of Tiara all night, wishing that scene at the restaurant hadn’t happened. Most of all, he wished she had denied Jemimah’s allegations, but she hadn’t. It was one of the most humiliating experiences of his life. And to think that Tiara had to choose Greg of all people to have sex with! Why?

The more he thought about it, the more enraged he became. He grabbed one of the pressure balls on his table and squeezed it while counting backward from 10. Within a few seconds, his temper simmered down. He was puzzled by his emotions towards Tiara. He had never felt possessive towards any woman before because he had always seen them as guests in his life; they came in and went out of his life periodically, and he had always been fine with that. Until Tiara showed up, and now he couldn’t bear to think of her being with someone else other than him, and that feeling confused him.

What was it about her that made him want to have her to himself only? Why was he so angry about her cheating on him with Greg? Shouldn’t he be relieved to discover that she wasn’t worth all the affection he’d been showering on her and that he was better off without her? Why did it still hurt so much though? Had she cast a spell on him?

The questions continued to swarm around his head like a bunch of angry bees. He wondered if he should call her but then decided against it. It was too soon, and he didn’t want to talk with her while he was still in this nasty mood. Things might get out of hand, and he would regret it later.

Forget about her, his brain told him. She was just another piece of fine ass. You’re rich enough to get yourself another one.

Maybe, he reasoned, but even as the thought settled in his mind, he knew it was a lie. Tiara wasn’t just another piece of fine ass. She was a lot more than that, and the sinking feeling in his gut was a testament to how much he missed her.
