Chapter 66 chapter 66
Chapter 66
A few days late, Tyron was summoned by the police.
“Dr. Hart, you are here concerning the murder of your wife, Clara Hart. We need to ask you a few questions, and we hope that you will cooperate with us.”
Although Tyron was stunned and his heart was already beating wildly, he tried to appear calm.
“What is all this about?”
Karl looked at Tyro and went straight to the point, “We suspect that your wife was murdered. Did you know anything about that?”
Tyron shook his head, “No. How could I know something like that? All I know is that my wife died from an accident.”
“Can you tell us how you found out about your wife’s death? Who informed you? And where did the accident occur? Did you go to the accident scene immediately you heard the news?”
“I…”
Having been bombarded with so many questions, Tyron did not know what to say.
After a while, he looked at Karl and said, “Why are you interrogating me as if I am some kind of criminal? I am a respected doctor, in case you did not know. I need to call my lawyer.”
Karl waved his hand, his eyes turning sharp, “Why are you being so dramatic, Mr. Hart? Why do you want to call your lawyer, yet you have not committed any offense? We just need your help to help investigate your wife’s case. From all the evidence we have collected so far, it is clear that your wife was murdered, and we are just chasing answers.”
Tyron took a deep breath and tried to calm down. He knew that he would be treated as a suspect if he acted out of line, so it was best if he maintained his cool.
He looked at Karl and stated, “Officer, my wife passed away a few years ago. I am still mourning her death until now. I had asked the police to close this case because I did not want to be interrogated like a criminal. I loved my wife so much, and I still can’t believe that she actually left me.”
“Mr. Hart, I understand your sentiments, and I respect your feelings. But as the police, it is our responsibility to uphold justice. If someone was unjustly murdered, then it is our duty to find their murderers and bring them to justice.”
“You had said that you had asked the officers to close this case in the past. Can I ask why? Could it be that you don’t want your wife’s soul to rest in peace?”
Tyron was offended, and he immediately shouted, “What are you insinuating?”
“Nothing. I am just trying to understand why you wouldn’t want to pursue justice for your dear wife, Mr. Hart.”
“It… it is not like that. The officer who was in charge of the case back then said that it was a hit-and-run accident, and since the perpetrator escaped and they had no way of tracing him, I decided to let it go. What was important was retrieving my wife’s remains and giving her a befitting send-off.”
“Sir, can you now answer my questions, the ones I had asked you earlier?”
“I…”
Tyron planned everything in his mind before he explained what had happened in the past.
Karl was comparing Tyron’s current statement with the same one he had given in the past after his wife had died. Whenever Tyron said something that contradicted the original statement, Karl noted it down.
By the time he was done, his back was covered in sweat. Good thing he was wearing a black coat, so no one noticed.
“That’s everything I know. It is the exact statement I had given back then.” Tyron said, trying to sound calm.
Karl nodded, and he did not press him any further. He only inquired to confirm whether everything Tyron said was true, “Are you sure that you have said the truth, and you did not intentionally omit anything?”
“Of course. I remember everything that happened like the back of my hand.”
“Good. I hope you don’t mind signing a document that would confirm whether everything you said is true. This is just to be cautious in case you want to change your mind in the future.”
Tyron did not want to spend another second at the police station; he immediately signed whatever document they wanted him to sign.
Just as his pen had touched the paper, Karl pressed, “Mr. Hart, think it through. If there is something you haven’t said, then say it before you put your signature on that paper.”
“I have said everything, and I have nothing to add.”
“Okay, you can go ahead and sign the document.” Karl nodded. He already got what he wanted anyway, so there was no point in pressing the man further.
The moment Tyron left, Karl instructed his officers, “Keep an eye on him and monitor his phone. Make sure that he doesn’t leave the country within the next three months until this case is solved.”
“Yes, boss.”
“Has the other persona arrived?” Karl asked.
“Yes, sir. She is already in the interrogation room.”
“Okay.”
Karl had also summoned Sophia. He had a feeling that these two were closely connected to the murder of Clara Hart, and he did not want to give them a chance to inform each other about anything.
He also knew that Tyron would call Sophia the moment he left the police station, and true to his words, Sophia’s phone, which was already in the possession of his men, rang shortly after Tyron left the police station.
But unknown to him, Sophia was already at the police station waiting to be interrogated.
…
“Why am I here? What crime have I committed? I am a law-abiding citizen, and I have not done anything wrong.”
Karl looked at her and sneered, “And who arrested you?”
“I… then what am I doing here? Even my phone was taken away.”
“Relax, ma’am, you are only here because we want to ask you a few questions concerning a case.”
Sophia’s heart jumped when she heard that. “What case?”
“Clara Hart. Do you know her?”
“What? No, of course not, I have never heard of that name before.”
