Chapter 51 chapter 51
Chapter 51
“Babe, looks like the evidence regarding your mom’s case was intentionally tampered with, but don’t worry, I have found something, and we will go to the police station to reopen the case.”
Natalie finally heaved a sigh of relief. The last time they had visited the police station, they weren’t even allowed to look at her mother’s file. They were also told that if they wanted the case reopened, they had to submit new evidence.
She thought that they had hit a dead end, but with Sean’s words, Natalie was finally hopeful that she would help her mother get the justice she deserved.
After all the obstacles they had endured, she was now certain that her mother had definitely been murdered.
And she was going to drag those murderers to light no matter what it took.
Sean and Natalie arrived at the police station very early. Good thing the officer who had served them last time was the one on duty.
Although he recognized them, he pretended not to. The captain had said that no matter what, that case can never be reopened.
“Sir, ma’am, how may I help you today?” The officer asked.
“We are here regarding Clara Hart’s case. You told us to return in two weeks because by then, the police captain would be out of leave.”
“Uhm, sir, ma’am, I don’t understand what you are talking about.”
Natalie was stunned. She was about to say something, but Sean stopped her.
“Let it be. I will go out and make a phone call.”
“Okay.”
The officer looked at Sean and sneered in his heart, “Sir, no matter who you call, no one is going to help you with this case. Our boss doesn’t want this can to be touched, and it would remain that way.”
After Sean left, the officer also stepped aside and dialed a number, “Sir, those people from two weeks ago are back again, but I haven’t told them anything.”
“Good, you will be rewarded handsomely.” The captain said. Good thing he had already destroyed all the evidence and anything related to that case, so no matter what the two did, they would never find anything.
Sean only stayed out for a few minutes before he came back. Natalie had been patiently waiting for him, and when she saw him return, she smiled at him.
“Done with your phone call?”
“Yes. I have called the Sterling City police commissioner, and he will be here shortly. The people here think that they can abuse their power; now they see what having real power means.”
The officer came back, and seeing that Sean was already there, he thought that he might not have found any help.
“Sir, ma’am, I cannot attend to you today. Please, you may leave. We are here to serve the nation and not entertain idle minds.”
Sean looked at him without saying anything. He was not someone who spoke anyhow. He liked to slap people in the face using his actions; that way, he would have the last laugh.
Ten minutes later, seeing that they were still seated, the officer became impatient. He had no choice but to text his boss.
“Captain, these two are still here, and from the looks of things, they have no intentions of leaving. What should I do?”
The captain, who was in his office smoking, replied almost immediately, “Tell them that I am out of the station, and they should come another time. No, tell them to leave the contact information, and I will reach out to them once I am back.”
“Copy that, sir.”
The officer put on a rigid smile and walked towards Natalie and Sean. His voice was not polite as he spoke, “You guys, ten minutes have already passed since you started loitering here. I would advise that you leave right away, or I will be forced to throw you in the cell.”
“On what account?”
“You are idling at the police station, and that is against the law.”
“Officer, we are just here to speak to your captain. You told us to come back after two weeks, and that is exactly what we did. But you are acting as if it is your first time seeing us. You guys really think that you can do whatever you want just because you are police officers, right?” Natalie spoke.
She was a very patient person, but that did not mean she would stand to be disrespected.
“The captain is still on leave. He has told me to take your contact information, and he will reach out once he is back on active duty.”
Sean looked at his watch and said, “They should be here any second.”
The officer’s expression changed. It did not feel good to be ignored.
He looked at Sean and pointed, “Sir, you…”
But before he could finish his statement, a voice akin to thunder was heard from the door, “Who dares threaten innocent civilians?”
The officer turned around, and when he saw the man who had entered, his expression changed, and his face turned pale.
Why was the commissioner doing here all of a sudden? They had not been informed that he would be visiting?
Could be that when Sean said that he was going to make a phone call, he was actually calling the police commissioner?
He turned his head and looked at Sean. Even with the commissioner’s arrival, the man was still unbothered. Who the hell was this man?
The officer was already sweating profusely as he tried to awkwardly make a salute, “Sir, Comm…”
But the man he was trying to show respect walked past him like he did not even exist.
He stood in front of Sean and almost saluted him. He managed to stop himself just in time.
He reached out his hand and respectfully shook Sean’s. “Mr. Cole, I hope I did not keep you waiting for a long time.”
Sean stood up and shook the commissioner’s hand. There was a small smile on his face as he said, “No, commissioner, you are right on time.”
The commissioner looked at Natalie and smiled kindly, “And this beautiful woman.”
Sean hugged Natalie across the waist protectively and said, “My wife, Dr. Natalie Hart. She is a heart surgeon, and she has already won many prestigious awards. She…”
Natalie smiled awkwardly. She cleared her throat and stretched out her fair hand, “Nice to meet you, commissioner. Don’t listen to my husband, he likes to exaggerate everything.”
The commissioner laughed out loud.
Who would have thought that the Boardroom Beast would be so protective of his wife?
