Chapter 27 chapter 27
Chapter 27
After Vivian dropped her son off at school, she headed directly to the Thompson Group of companies. Her face was pale, as if she had just made an encounter with a ghost.
She entered the CEO’s office breathing hard.
She almost knocked into Jason, who was on his way to a meeting.
“Viv, what is wrong? Why are you in such a hurry?”
Seeing Jason, Vivian threw herself at him, hugging him tightly.
“Babe.” She called out in a soft voice.
Jason freed himself from her tight hug and looked at her. Seeing how pale her face was, he frowned.
“Viv, what happened to you? Have you dropped Jaden off at school?”
“Yes.” Vivian nodded.
“Are you not feeling well?” Jason asked in a worried voice. He held Vivian and led her to the sofa in the office.
He poured her a glass of warm water from the dispenser and handed it to her.
“What happened to you? Why do you look so pale?”
Vivian only calmed down after drinking half the water in the glass. She looked at Jason and spoke, “I am fine, and yes, I did drop Jason at school. But you won’t believe the person I saw leaving the school just as I had arrived.”
Jason looked at her with a dubious gaze. It was evident that he was not interested in her guessing game.
He looked at the files in his hands and spoke, “Vivian, I have an important meeting, and everyone is already waiting for me. Just say whatever you want to say already.”
“Babe, I saw Natalie,” Vivian spoke in almost a whisper. It was as if she were afraid that people would hear her.
“What?” Jason dropped the files in his hands as his face turned pale. He took a few steps back and almost knocked himself on his wooden office desk.
“What did you just say? Did you really see Natalie?”
“I… I think that I saw someone like her, although I am not sure. I got out of the car to have a proper look, but by that time, she had already driven off.”
Hearing that, Jason heaved a deep sigh of relief, and his pounding heart returned to normal. He looked at Vivian and shook his head, “Viv, you must have mistaken someone for Natalie. Uncle Tyron said that Natalie vowed never to come back after the death of her mother. So, you must be imagining things.”
Although Vivian also thought that she must be imagining things, she had a strong feeling that the person she had seen was definitely Natalie, because she would never mistake that face even if it turned to ashes.
“Babe, maybe you are right, and it is just my imagination. But what if she is really back? What will we do?”
Jason calmed down and thought about it before he said, “Why are you getting worked up over nothing? It is not like we owe her anything. Whether she is back or not, our lives won’t really change.”
“But, babe…”
Jason raised his hand and stopped her, “Viv, I am getting late for my meeting. I think you should get back to work.” He immediately left the room after saying that, not giving Vivian a chance to say anything.
The moment he left, Vivian’s expression changed. Her gaze turned from gentle to vicious, and she looked like a venomous snake that couldn’t wait to inject poison into its prey.
“Natalie, you could have just stayed away, but if you are truly back, then I am going to make your life a living hell. I will never give you a chance to reclaim anything.”
The moment he left the office, Jason’s expression cracked too.
He muttered under his breath, “Natalie, it has been five or so years, are you really back? How have you been all these years?”
…
Sean left Natalie’s office and headed to his own. He was someone with sharp senses, and before anyone could process anything, they heard a thud sound as if someone had just fallen to the ground.
Judy yelped in pain, and tears immediately fell from her eyes. She never expected that Sean would actually dodge her, letting her land on the ground in such an embarrassing posture.
The other nurses in the cardiology department wanted to laugh, but remembering that Judy was the director’s niece, and she could get them fired, they only covered their mouths, too afraid to produce a sound.
“Ouch!” Judy cried out in pain. She thought that Sean might feel sorry for her and help her up, but the man only glanced at her once before he continued to move forward as if he had not seen anything.
Judy’s gaze darkened as she momentarily forgot about her pain.
She had used this same trick to trap a lot of men in the past, but it had failed on Sean. Then that proved that Sean was no ordinary man. And it also seemed like he moved away on purpose just so she could not fall into his arms.
Hah, so he was playing hard to get, right? Just wait until he knew her identity as Director Martin’s niece, then he would come crawling to her.
Sean stood in front of his office and spoke to one of the attending nurses, “Does your hospital policy allow nurses to wear such shoes?” He asked he pointing at Judy, who was still lying on the floor. He did not even turn to look at her.
One of the nurses shook her head, “No, Dr. Sean.” After thinking about it, she decided to tell him the truth about Judy’s real identity, “Actually, she is Director Martin’s niece, so…”
“So, she can do as she pleases?” Sean finished the statement on behalf of the nurse. His voice was cold, startling the two nurses.
“How can she save lives if she cannot even walk properly? Did she even attend medical school?”
“I…”
“Get her out of my sight,” Sean commanded. He did not really like people who used their status to have their way with everything.
This was a sacred place that was meant to save lives, not to play with them.
The two nurses were stunned. They had thought that Sean would suck up to Judy after learning of her true identity. They did not expect that he would lash out like that.
Wasn’t he afraid of putting his career at risk?
Or had Judy finally gotten her match, and she was about to be put in her place?
