Chapter 15 chapter 15
Chapter 15
“Where are we going?” Natalie asked the moment Sean started the car. He was acting all mysterious, and Natalie could not even guess what was going on in his mind.
Sean looked at her and smiled, “It is a surprise, and I don’t want to ruin it.”
“You are now the mystery man, huh?”
Sean laughed without saying anything and focused his mind on driving.
As they drove, Natalie felt that the road looked familiar.
She turned to Sean and asked, “This road…” her mind recalled, and she covered her mouth in surprise, “Doesn’t this road lead to City University?”
Sean looked at her and smiled lightly. There was a gentle light in his eyes as he commented, “As expected of Dr. Hart, your memory is as sharp as ever.”
“Why are you taking me to City University? I haven’t been to this place since graduation.”
“Nothing important. Since you are going back to Sterling City, I thought that I might as well spend some quality time with you.”
His words made Natalie’s heart skip a beat. They always spent most of their time together, but since his proposal yesterday, something seemed to have changed between them. Every word Sean spoke made it look like he was flirting with her.
Well, about that, Natalie still had to explain everything to him before she boarded the plane, or she might end up giving Sean false hopes.
She cleared her throat and began, “Sean, about yesterday, I…”
Before she could say anything, Sean stopped the car and announced, “We are here!”
Natalie’s attention was shifted. She looked outside and saw the vast gate of City University, a place that had turned her into an unparalleled medical surgeon.
She felt a sense of nostalgia as Sean’s car passed through the huge gates and headed towards the parking lot.
Everything was almost the same as it had been since Natalie left. She realized that it really was not good of her to have stayed all these years without visiting.
She turned to Sean and wanted to thank him, but their lips unexpectedly touched, sending a shockwave between them.
Natalie’s eyes widened in shock, and Sean could not believe what had just happened. Although it was just a one-second kiss, the way he felt was electrifying. He felt like he had just tasted the softest candy on the planet.
Natalie was the first to pull back. Her eyes were so wide that they almost fell out of their skull.
After a few seconds of shock, she finally found her voice, “You, what the hell are you doing? Why were you so close to me?”
Sean smiled happily as he touched his lips. He looked at Natalie and flashed her a flirty smile. His voice was deep like a cello as he spoke, “Wow, this is the best kiss I have ever had. Thank you so much, babe.”
“What? You… did you do it on purpose?”
Sean shook his head innocently, “No, baby. I saw that you were too distracted, so I just wanted to help you unfasten your seatbelt.”
Seeing her dubious expression, Sean knew that she did not believe a word he said, but he did not really care. His heart was filled with happiness, and whatever Natalie thought of him, he would gladly accept.
Noticing that she was still staring at him, Sean laughed out loud, his voice filled with humor, “Why are you looking at me like I am some kind of petty thief?”
Feeling her ears turn red from embarrassment, Natalie looked at Sean and spoke, “You hooligan!”
Once they alighted from the car, Sean insisted on holding Natalie’s hand. No matter how much she protested, he refused to let go.
Sean looked at her with a helpless expression, “Stop being stubborn, Dr. Hart, I am not going to eat you up, okay? I am a man of good morals, and you know that I will never hurt you on purpose.”
“Humph! Says someone who stole a kiss from me just now.” Natalie grumbled, but at last, she stopped struggling.
Having finally won, Sean gave out a satisfied grin and led Natalie towards the medical school faculty.
They passed a number of corridors and several lecture halls before they finally stopped.
The door in front of them was labelled, School of Medicine and Surgery, Lecture Hall One.
Sean slightly pushed the door open and ushered Natalie in before he followed her.
He looked around before he said, “This is the place we met for the very first time. When I saw you enter through that door, although you looked confused, like you had just woken up from a deep sleep, in my eyes, you were the cutest girl I have ever seen.”
His words reminded Natalie of her first day at City University. She had no one to guide her, and she ended up going to the wrong lecture hall. By the time she realized that was not the class she was supposed to attend, ten minutes had already passed.
Natalie fumbled to look for the right class, and by the time she found it, she was a total mess.
She had sweat cascading down her face from running all over the place. She was panting hard, and the pregnancy hormones were acting up.
The lecture hall was filled to the brim, and there was no extra chair. Natalie wanted nothing but the earth to open up and swallow her whole, but in her embarrassed state, someone stood up and offered her his seat. Since that day, the two have become good friends.
Natalie looked at Sean and commented, “Wow, that was the most embarrassing day of my life. If we were still in grade school, I am sure I would have been laughed at till we graduated.”
“Natalie, I did not bring you here just so I could make you feel humiliated. I just wanted to show you that from the moment I laid my eyes on you, my life, my heart, and my everything was given to you.”
“I just did not have the courage to tell you back then, but now, I just want you to know how much I love you.”
“Sean, I…”
Sean went over and placed a hand on her lips, “Don’t say those words, please. I know you only said yes yesterday to save my reputation, but Natalie, that alone won’t stop me from loving you.”
Natalie was stunned as she looked at Sean, “So, you knew?”
Sean nodded, “I know all your expressions like the back of my hand, so how could I not see the hesitation in your eyes?”
“I… I am sorry, Sean, but I only see you as my best friend, and after what happened in the past, I am not sure if I can ever love someone again.”
“Natalie, that is where you are wrong. I had also shared with you my past, and you could tell how much I was against the idea of ever dating again, but ever since I saw you, I had to open my heart again, just for you.”
“I… but we will never see each other again!”
“About that…”
