(Devan's POV).
"Are you okay?" I looked at her worriedly as I saw her whole body trembling violently. Both my hands had been gripped tightly by her ever since. "Vivian, what happened?"
She was still silent. Sobbing in my arms. After her hysterics, I immediately took her into the car and tried to calm her down in the back seat.
I returned to see her because she left her car keys at my apartment. And at that time, I saw her hysterical as if I was a bad person who was trying to hurt her.
I didn't know what had happened to her, but I was sure this wasn't something to be taken lightly.
"Shush... calm down. I'm already here. You're safe, Vivian," I whispered, rubbing her back gently.
I struggled out of my embrace and looked up at her.
"What happened? Can't you tell me?" I asked cautiously. I didn't want to make her feel pressured to answer and make her not want to be honest with me.
She shook her head. "Nothing happened," she said.
"You're scared, Vivian. You're shaking," I protested, my eyes widening. "There's no way nothing happened."
And just then I felt her hand grasp mine even tighter.
"I'm fine." Her voice cracked as she spoke to me.
"You're not fine."
She cried again and I immediately hugged her again. Burying her face in my chest. Stroking her hair gently to calm her down.
Maybe I shouldn't ask anymore because she hasn't dared to tell me what happened to her. But if my guess is right, that someone is trying to disturb and hurt her, I will never forgive them. I would kill that person if they dared to touch a single hair on her head.
"I will stop asking anymore, but calm down," I told her.
Just then, I heard Vivian's cell phone ring. I immediately reached for it, but Vivian tried to take it out of my hands.
"Is he the one who's been freaking you out like this?" I asked her. Staring at her sharply. She shook her head. "Let me," I insisted.
Vivian looked at me with trembling eyeballs as I took the call. But I swiftly wrapped my arms around her, giving her comfort in my embrace.
"Vivian, are you okay? Why aren't you home yet? Adam's been waiting for you since earlier."
I frowned. "Tristan?"
"Who are you?"
"I'm Devan," I replied.
"Why are you taking Vivian's calls? Where's Vivian!" he shouted angrily.
"She's beside me and she's fine. I would never hurt her, so stop acting like I'm a bad guy."
"What did you do to her? Why isn't she home yet?"
I glanced at Vivian who shook her head, signaling that I shouldn't tell him what had happened to her.
"Her car broke down and I accidentally met her on the road, so I helped her. We'll be there soon," I said, ending our call.
She looked relieved to hear my answer. I handed her the phone and gently covered her face.
"Vivian, can't you tell me what happened to you?" I asked her.
She shook her head, still crying.
"Why?" I furrowed my brow. "You were crying hysterically when I came to you. You don't know how shocked I was when I saw you like that."
"Nothing happened... I'm fine," she said in a trembling voice. Likewise, her hand continued to clasp my hand tightly.
"Can this still be considered fine?" I showed her my trembling hand. And she just lowered his head.
I sighed heavily.
"Alright, I'll take you home. With my car. Leave your car here and I'll have someone bring it to your house," I explained, "so Tristan doesn't get suspicious that you slept at my apartment last night."
"Dev, thank you."
"Hmm..."
I rubbed her cheek gently before getting her out of her car and leading her to mine.
On the way home, Vivian kept quiet while staring at the window. But I could tell that she was still feeling scared when I saw her busy holding her hand.
"Feeling better?" I asked as I took her hand, and she didn't reject it at all.
"Yes."
"Vivian, you can tell me anything that happens to you. You know what I mean, right?" I glanced at her before looking back at the highway.
"Yes."
This was frustrating to me. I didn't want to see her sad or depressed like this. That expression on her face reminded me of the time in the past when I was rude to her, and it made my chest feel tight every time I saw it.
"I meant what I said, Vivian. You can tell me anything that happens to me, whether it's about someone bothering you or a problem...."
"No one's bothering me and there's no problem whatsoever. I'm just a little shocked that you surprised me," she interrupted me. Looking uncomfortable with my question.
"Oh, well," I muttered.
It would have been better if I hadn't continued this conversation.
Arriving at Vivian's house, the first person to greet us when we got out of the car was Tristan. He walked towards us with an annoyed expression on his face, which he showed specifically to me.
"Hey, what about your car? Why didn't you just call me, hm?" Tristan asked Vivian.
"Devan happened to be there and you were with Adam. I couldn't have told you to come and leave Adam alone," Vivian replied. Her voice sounded weak and lifeless.
"Vivian? Are you okay?"
"She's just tired," I said, and Tristan immediately glanced at me with his piercing eyes.
"I didn't ask you. And why are you still here? You've dropped Vivian off, so go away."
"Only Vivian can get me out of here," I insisted.
"Vivian?" Tristan gave Vivian an annoyed look.
Vivian looked at me. "Let him have breakfast with us. And after that, he can leave."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes. He helped me, so I should at least return the favor."
Hearing Vivian's answer, I couldn't hide my triumphant smile as I stared at Vivian.
