(Freya's POV).
I blinked as I woke up and was in the hospital. I remembered that I had suddenly collapsed when Devan tried to take me away from Jason's apartment. I turned my head to look for him.
Where is he? Did Devan take me to the hospital? But why isn't he here?
I tried to sit up when I saw the doctor coming towards me.
"With Miss Freya?" he asked.
"Yes."
"How are you? Better?"
"Yes, but... where is the man who took me to the hospital? As I remember, I fainted," I told him. I was still looking for Devan.
"Your husband is taking care of the payment," he replied.
Husband? I squeezed my blanket uneasily.
"Oh."
"For now, you should rest completely and not be too stressed. It's not good for your pregnancy."
"P-Pregnant?" I gasped in shock. My hands were suddenly shaking.
"Yes, pregnant. You are one week along in your pregnancy."
"No, that's imposible... No...." I shook my head repeatedly while babbling incoherently. The doctor looked at me in confusion as he saw the panic on my face.
"Miss, are you alright?" I felt him touch my shoulder.
I looked at him with a pale face. "Does he know? M-my husband... does he know I'm pregnant?"
"I haven't told your husband about your pregnancy. Do you want me to..."
"No, don't. Let me tell him. Please don't say anything about my pregnancy. Please..."
He gave me a confused look but then agreed to my request.
"Alright. The point is, you should rest a lot and don't get too stressed. Do you understand?"
"Yes, I know. I'll keep that in mind," I whispered. I touched my stomach with my trembling hands.
Pregnant? Me?
How did I get pregnant? How am I...
I don't know what to react to. But I'm terrified right now. This pregnancy is too sudden for me. I'm not ready and I'm scared.
I'm afraid of having a child with me in this bad state. What if Devan hurts me even more when he finds out I'm pregnant? What if he tells me to abort my pregnancy?
No, no, no. I won't let that happen.
"Freya." I gasped when I heard Devan's voice.
I looked up at him walking towards me, rubbing my cheek gently.
"Are you awake?"
"Y-yes."
"What did the doctor say?"
"J-just tired." I bit my lower lip. I couldn't speak properly with the numbness I was feeling right now. And hoped Devan wouldn't notice.
"Come on, then let's go home and rest at home."
"Home?" I glared at him.
"Our home."
No, I can't go with Devan in my current state. I don't want Devan to know about my pregnancy.
"I told you I don't want to come back to you. I want us to get a divorce."
"Don't argue, Freya. I don't approve of this divorce idea, and don't expect it to happen."
"You can't force me, Dev!"
"Yes, I can. Come on. Don't make me use violence, Freya." I shuddered in horror as he looked at me sharply. With the same cold, threatening tone that he was used to.
I swallowed my saliva with difficulty. I had to obey him so that my baby would be okay.
"Alright." The expression on his face changes after hearing my answer.
"You should have done it from the beginning, Freya. It was better for both of us."
He helps me up. Hugs me as we walk out of the hospital. Again, I have to go back home with a lot of bad memories there. My body suddenly shivered as I walked inside.
This wasn't home, it was like a prison to me.
"Get some sleep. I'll be in my workroom, okay?"
He helped me lie down on the bed. I looked at him endlessly. What did he want from me?
"Yes."
"And don't try to run away from me again, Freya," he threatened, "don't involve Jason in this. You know what I mean?"
My eyes widened. Panic washed over me. No, I can't bring Jason into our problems. He's already helped me. I didn't want to hurt him.
"I understand," I replied quickly. I closed my eyes as he kissed my forehead.
"Good girl." He smiled with satisfaction.
I trembled with fear and anxiety as he walked out of the room. And I sat back down. Thinking about what was going to happen to me next.
I couldn't possibly be here forever or Devan would find out I was pregnant. And if I asked Jason for help, he would hurt him.
I couldn't go on living like this. I want freedom. I want to live a life that won't make me feel claustrophobic when I breathe. A life without feeling fear and anxiety every day.
"My cell phone was left at Jason's apartment."
What should I do?
My gaze stopped right on the table, where my medicine was placed. I stared at it with doubt in my heart. Something that might help me escape this misery.
Yes, this might be the only chance I have.
Do it or don't do it at all!
I knocked on Devan's study door and then opened it. I saw that he was busy working at his desk.
He looked at me with confusion. "What's wrong, why are you here? Didn't I tell you to sleep?"
"Oh, I just came down to get some drinks. And I thought I should get you a cup of coffee too," I said, coming inside with a tray of coffee.
"Come here," he said, patting his lap.
I placed the tray onto his work table and sat on his lap. Restraining my trembling body as he wrapped his arms around my waist. Kissing me softly.
"I'll drink it, but hurry back to your room."
"You drink first, then I'll go to my room," I said.
His eyebrows raised. I saw his smile at me. "Okay."
He let me up and took the cup of coffee I had prepared. I watched him as he drank it.
I touched my stomach with gentle strokes. I might have made a big mistake, but I hoped I wouldn't regret it. It was the only way I could think of to get rid of all this burden and misery.
“Goodbye, Dev.”
