Chapter 30: The New Life

“We’re here!”

I yawned loudly and spread my hands, as I opened my eyes. I could see that I was in the car and so I looked around. “Scar, you awake?”

A deep masculine voice rang in my ears and a subconscious smile spread across my lips.

“Max.”

“Yeah, baby. We’re here.”

Hearing such a beautiful endearment from him once again — after all this time was overwhelmingly peaceful. I didn’t know that I missed it so much.

I looked at him and smiled. “Yeah.”

I got out of the car and took Drew again in my arms as he was still asleep. It was better that way, since I would have more time to come up with a good excuse and explanation of everything. I needed to make sure he accepted Max — since I could only keep him safe that way.

I looked up. We had reached his house — and damn, was it a fantasy!

“Woah, you—you live here?” I asked as I closed the car door and looked at the building.

“I figured it would be perfect to stay in a penthouse.”

I looked at him with wide eyes and then laughed. “Of course. What else could I expect from a billionaire?”

He smiled and came toward me. I looked at him with intensity and his adorable eyes looked back at me with love.

“How could anyone be a billionaire if they don’t have you? Who else could give them the heaven and the love which would actually make them rich?”

I looked down as blush crept to my cheeks. Damn, I really need to know how he learned everything he says.

“Do you take lessons to learn how to say such lines?” I asked with a chuckle.

He laughed and then extended his hand toward me. I looked at him and then a smile on his face comforted me.

“I will take Andrew inside. You should rest inside. Let’s go.”

I smiled and handed Drew to him. Thankfully, he didn’t wake up and feel the urge to scream — even if he never does it. But who knows? Sometimes everything bad that could happen — happens to me and I could never stop it. So I have started assuming everything worse will happen to me.

“Yeah let’s go.”

We walked inside the fascinating place and to the reception. The woman immediately recognised him — but seeing him with the child gave everyone shock.

Many people took photos but he didn’t mind it. I didn’t know what was best — if people knew about Drew or not, but I think it was better this way. Who wants to be kept a secret? I think Drew will also like it. I think this was so much better since Xavier was so freaked out. But Maxence is also a billionaire but he doesn’t seem to mind it — even if he isn’t his own. He is only proud of having him as his son.

The woman handed over a gold card to me, since Max was taking care of Drew. I smiled and after taking it, we walked toward the elevator — which was also gold, if that means anything. We had to use the card to unlock the use of the elevator. Damn, I would never imagine having so much money. But then again… it seems like I am meant to be surrounded by billionaires.

“I always wondered how a penthouse was in real life,” I said as the elevator closed up and he clicked on the only button present. “I only knew they were extremely expensive and only people like you could afford them,” I added with a cheesy smile.

He laughed and shook his head. “They’re really not that expensive.”

“Ha ha. Of course I am not saying this according to you. I am talking about people like us.”

He looked at me and sighed. “People like us? You do know you’re also like me, right?”

“Nah, I am not,” I laughed. “You are so amazing and… rich, even though that’s one of the least factors that matter. But me? I don’t have anything.”

“You have everything I need,” He said with a smile. “And partners are not meant to compete, but complete each other.”

It felt like my eyes shone after he said those words. His perspective was mesmerising, considering everyone else in my life before him has only given me the mere importance of being alive and being a human, but he actually treated me like I mattered and that’s what really made me fall for him. I mean, he wasn’t like this ever before. He was someone I never knew, he always treated me… like everyone else. But now? He seemed to be the best person in this universe.

“I would never leave you again,” I said with a small smile. “I would always stay with you, no matter what happens.”

He smiled back. The elevator pinged and I realised we reached the top floor.

I was excited to see the home I would finally live in. The doors opened and I could see a big door in front of me. It was white and seemed to be like one of those decent hotels.

“Women first,” He said and extended his hand.

I grinned and walked in front. There was a passcode on the door and I looked at him with puppy eyes.

He laughed. “You don’t need to use them, Scar. Give it your best guess.”

I looked at him with an intense gaze and then back at the passcode menu. They were number combinations.

What could they possibly be?

“Your birthday?” I asked before typing in his birthday date as numbers — but it was wrong.

“C’mon, you didn’t actually think of me as someone who would be so obsessed and keep his door’s password as his own birthday!” He said and laughed.

I laughed with him and then sighed. “I have no idea. I have not really known you for so many years. How could I know what your password would be?”

“Well, I have not really changed.”

I raised my eyebrows. “I wouldn’t say that.”

“At least my feelings haven’t changed.”

I thought for a moment. “Okay, maybe this is stupid but let me try this.”

“Go ahead.”

I slowly extended my hand and pressed my birthday date. As I was about to press the last button, my feelings were overflowing — how embarrassing would it be if it wasn’t the answer? Damn.

I decided to press it anyway, since he would have figured out what I was trying to type already.

As soon as I pressed the last digit, the door unlocked.

My eyes widened and I looked at him. He smiled at me and I couldn't help but pull him close, trying to kiss him — but he pulled away.

“Do you really want Drew to wake up and see us this way?” He said as he got away and I gasped.

“Oh I totally forgot—“

“About your child?” He laughed.

“No!” I laughed too. “About how things have changed and we have to adapt accordingly.”

He nodded, the smile never leaving his face. I finally looked aside and inside the penthouse — which was excruciatingly elegant, to say the least. It was huge and massively beautiful; it was a masterpiece.

“Woah…” I whispered as I stood on the door, looking inside. I actually froze for a few moments as I had not seen such a beautiful place in my entire life

“It will be more beautiful as soon as you step inside.”

I grinned at him and stepped inside, getting a greater view of the room — which only made the perfect thing even more perfect.

“You really hired an exceptional interior designer for this,” I said as I kept the gold card on the table. “I want to thank that exceptional human!”

He put Drew on the bed and covered him with the quilt, since the AC in the room made the atmosphere somewhat cold. However, I could still feel warm in his presence. Maybe love really was warm. But did I love him? Was this love or something less than that?

I cheated on him all those years ago but still it felt like home with him. My feelings were still here. Maybe I really loved him.

“Well, you can thank him because he is right here.”

I turned to him with wide eyes. “You designed this!?”

He tilted his head a little with a smirk. “Impressed?”

“You’ve got to be kidding—wow. You are so amazing!”

“Hey stop it,” He laughed. “I am the only one allowed to flirt.”

“Oh, and what if I flirt?” I said seductively and took a few steps toward him. He smirked and took a step closer.

“I just might make things harder for you.”

“Harder for me to what?” I asked as I kept my hands on his shoulder.

“To not get Drew a sibling.”

I looked down as my cheeks turned red and heat rushed to my face. I could feel him smirking.

“Who said I don’t want to?”
