In An Instant

In An Instant
"Stop!" A playful screech leaves my lips followed by a deep laugh from my belly. I try to wiggle away from his fingers but he keeps them on my sides.

"The truth, my female." He whispers, his eyes watching me with utmost gentleness.

"Okay, all right! I ate your sandwich!" I chuckle holding his wrists to block him from his never-ending tickles.

"And I am hungry. How will I be fed?" He asks.

"I can make you one! The females packed a lot for the picnic." I plead as he lets me go with a smile. Crawling upon the picnic blanket I pick up the basket bringing it to my side. Cutting two slices of the loaf, I put in cheese and ham. My male eats a lot so I make four of them.

Placing it on a paper plate I give it to him as he takes one keeping his eyes on the book engrossed with its words. Stretching my arms up relaxing my limbs I scan our surroundings.

The past few months things have been going great at Giovanni's pack. The females have grown to become strong warriors and the males vigorous than ever. With the way things have been going, perhaps we will be able to leave home soon.

We decided that today would be a day of celebration and relaxation so the females and I put together a small picnic at the hillside for everyone. The weather is beautiful, the heat of the sun shaded by moist clouds whilst the trees dance enveloping us in a soft breeze.

The wolves sit in groups surrounded by their families and friends reminding me of home. I miss home. I miss my females; they would have loved this.

"Luna, here." Mia grabs my attention handing me a plate filled with different types of meat. My mouth waters wanting to have a taste.

"Thank you. It's wonderful how you juveniles are doing a barbecue for the pack." I smile taking the plate from her.

Mia has changed significantly, she fought hard and has grown to become one of the top warriors. Her eyes when they look at me do not seem uncomfortable or filled with fear like before. She looks at me the way my females back home do.

"The barbecue is that way, so if you would like more please do come over." She says and I quickly nod.

Looking back at my male he leans back on his elbows dressed in a baby blue shirt and white pants. Eyes scanning the book beneath those blue shades.

"Must I look for someone to play with since my male is not giving me attention?" I ask with a soft tease in my tone watching him through my peripheral vision. He flinches and quickly puts his book aside shuffling closer to me.

I chuckle handing him the plate. "You're favorite. Meat." I say the word meat imitating the gruff voice and tone he used when I asked him about his favorite food when we first met.

He raises his eyebrow. "Are you imitating me, mate?" He asks whilst his eyes turning into slits.

"What? No! But was it a good imitation?" I ask him smiling as he crawls to me.

"I don't know. How about we imitate something else?" He asks as I lean away from him.

"Imitate what?" I ask him.

"Wolves mating." He says pouncing on me, my back against the blanket. He holds my hands above my head. I laugh again trying to get away from his hold.

"No!" l shriek in laughter as his teeth nip at my mark. Hips delve into mine and I wrap my legs around his waist. He chuckles to my reactions, eyes sparkling with joy. Deimos does everything he can to make me laugh. He often says he loves the sound of my laughter and the sight of a smile on my lips.

He keeps looking down at me with a look I cannot decipher as he removes a strand of hair away from my face.

"What?" I ask looking into his eyes.

"You're beautiful." He whispers with a soft smile. My eyes widen as my cheeks burn in response to his compliment. "That was the first thought that came to my mind when I first laid my eyes upon you in that meeting, but back then I thought I'd rather die than acknowledge you that way." He continues shaking his head of disapproval of his past.

"Deimos." I whisper softly.

"I didn't know your worth back then. I didn't know a lot of things but I'm learning Lumina. You teach me every day how to be a better male." He says looking down at me. His eyes show me he speaks his truth.

"My male." I whisper cupping his face in my hands.

"My female." He whispers bending down to capture my lips in a gentle kiss.

My arms wrap around his neck pulling him closer to me whilst his hands hold my hips. He bites my lower lip seeking entrance and I open up as he thrusts his hot tongue in the warmth of my mouth coating it with his taste.

His palm slides into my shirt lighting fire over the flesh of my stomach. I let out a small quiet moan and he smiles into the kiss. I feel his mind through the mark, he feels content in my arms. So content that is heart is soaring.

The sound of females giggling pops our love bubble. I push a startled Deimos away quickly sitting up my cheeks on fire. This pack has seen us in action more than our own. Deimos lets out a deep chuckle watching my reaction, he knows I cannot be comfortable with public display of affection.

"M-More meat. I will bring us more." I say quickly looking down towards the grass floor and run off to the barbecue with the sound of Deimos's loud laughter catching me off guard. He seems to love teasing me.

"Luna." Mia notices me first and bows in greeting. There seems to be no wolf except her at the station.

"I wanted to get some extra meat." I say smiling but stop her once I see the line of wolves already waiting. "How long have they been waiting?" I ask her.

"For a while now. We are short on hands as the others are tending to the old." She says trying to cook the meat quickly for the hungry wailing pups.

"May I help?" I ask her.

Her eyes widen and she shakes her head, "No, Luna. I don't think-" I cut her off.

"That a Luna should do this. Well, I was never a proper Luna, to begin with, was I?" I say with a smile grabbing the extra thong from the table. "Will you teach me? I have never done this before." I ask her softly earning a nod from her.

She teaches me the way to grill the meat to give it a juicy flavor and not burn the flesh. I get the hang of it and I quickly aid her in providing for the wolves. The line never seems to cease as when they leave they return for more.

I did not wear safety gloves since Mia possessed only one pair and I forced her to wear it. I was perfectly fine until I absentmindedly rest my palm over the hot iron. I whelp and quickly bring my palm closer to my face checking the burn.

The wolves gasp and Mia comes to my side analyzing the wound. The loud chatter concludes to a pin drop silence and I could feel the tension rising among the wolves surrounding us as this was the calm before the storm.

"Lumina!" Deimos calls out. The storm has arrived.

He immediately comes to my side pulling my hand from Mia's grasp checking it, whilst blowing on it softly with gentle but pain-filled eyes. He felt my pain through his mark.

"Who the hell made my female help at a damn barbecue station without fucking gloves? Come before me this instant-" He commands furiously as I place my palm over his mouth stopping him.

"I am fine, it was my mistake. I wasn't paying attention. Now can we stop this tantrum and help out. The pups need to be fed." I say looking into his eyes. He stares down at me for a second and gives a quick nod in acceptance.

I remove my palm from his mouth and walk towards the counter to continue but he stops me grabbing a hold of my wrist. I turn around to look at him as he shakes his head. "I will do it." He says whilst taking my place behind the grill.

Tying on an apron he quickly grabs the thong grilling the meat. The older females smile in awe of my male. The chatter starts up again whilst I sit on a chair watching Deimos. The line grows again but that didn't seem to faze him. The tension dies as peace replaces it.

A small pup walks up to him. As she reaches him she pulls on the tip of his shirt that she could reach. He flinches with the sudden touch and looks down at her with a raised eyebrow.

She lifts her hands and says, "Up. Up." My eyes widen, I don't think that's a good idea to ask of Deimos. He neither would like nor would want to do that. Deimos stares down at her. I cannot believe she isn't scared of that look and isn't running for the hills.

"Alexandra! Come here this instant! I apologize Alpha Deimos she-" Alexandra's mother comes rushing pushing past the wolves in line to get to her, whilst apologizing with her head bowed but stops mid-sentence as Deimos simply bends and picks up the pup.

He places her on his hip as she giggles and plays with the button on the collar of his shirt. I let out an inaudible gasp when his lips tilt up into a smile whilst watching her with gentle eyes. He steadies her on his hip with his right hand and continues the barbecue with his left.

A smile graces my lips as I take in the sight in front of me. He doesn't know it yet, but he would be an amazing father to our pups. She talks to him mumbling the only words she knows and he replies calmly whilst rocking her gently side to side.

"Babbit." She says.

"Rabbit." He corrects her.

"B-Babbit?" She asks confused her lower lip stretched out in a small pout.

"Try again. It's r-a-b-b-i-t." He stresses on each letter patiently for her to grasp it.

And so he teaches her new words. It is funny how they just met each other and she probably asked to be carried as pups that age see all males as their father as they cannot differentiate, but somehow they created a quick bond.

The juvenile females watch him interacting with Alexandra and smile. Sighing I acknowledge it. It is quite a sight to see. I place my elbow upon my knee, chin resting on my palm as I continue gazing upon him. I want to engrave this moment in my mind.

A loud blare of an alarm startles me and everyone present. I quickly get up my mind on alert, heart pounding within my chest. Peace and joy are killed by the fearful screams of females. Sudden darkness looms over us, a bad feeling arises from within me. I feel it in my nerves. The emmerging calamity carrying potential devastation comes forth in an instant.
