Chapter 115
Chapter 115
POV: Claire
Derek spoke in a quiet but unwavering tone when he told Claire that her permission was unnecessary. The wind pulled at our clothes while we stood together on the cliff with the valley below us, and the dawn light appeared behind us.
I locked eyes with him and felt amazed by the deep meaning in his words. My voice remained steady as I responded, "Permission is not what I request." “I’m telling you I’m here. We must lead as a unit or cease leading entirely.
Derek paused, and a brief moment of uncertainty appeared on his normally composed face. The battle within him was visible to me. The Alpha was accustomed to bearing his leadership burdens by himself without any support. But this time, it was different.
He said quietly after watching me for so long. I observed you battle through challenges while healing us and saving our entire pack from destruction. You’re no longer just my Luna, Claire. You’re my equal. Our pack requires your presence more than it needs a traditional leader.
His words impacted me deeper than I had anticipated. His recognition went beyond power and titles to something deeper. It was respect. Trust. Partnership.
I extended my hand to take his while sensing his solid power through his skin. “We face this future together, then. No secrets. No doubts.”
His hand squeezed mine for a moment and conveyed a silent promise.
The pack gathered at Redwater that day. The atmosphere crackled with expectations while the tension remained dense yet hopeful. Together we stood before them while preparing to face whatever challenges awaited us.
Derek announced clearly that from this moment forward, Claire and he would lead together as a single unit. Our strength is in our unity. The pack represents everyone together instead of just one individual.
A cheer rose from the wolves. The instant carried a sacred feeling as it marked the beginning of a new chapter. The happiness of the moment hid the presence of past shadows, which I could still feel.
In the council chamber, silence, Derek moved closer to me. His eyes searched mine. He paused before revealing a hidden burden and said, “There’s something I haven’t told you.”
I waited, heart pounding.
An impending danger approaches but it does not originate from the Rising Fang instead it comes from someone nearer. Someone from my past. Someone from Derek’s past opposes our unity.
His words fell upon me like a heavy burden. A question formed in my mind about who this threat was and where they came from but he dismissed my curiosity with a shake of his head. “Not yet. But you deserve to know. Soon.”
I stayed awake that night as I analysed his words over and over again in my mind. Our leadership remained strong, and the pack stood together, but a threatening storm approached from a distance. The future felt both certain and fragile.
As sleep approached I felt a gentle knock at my door. As I opened my door I discovered a figure enveloped by darkness.
“Claire,” the voice said as it trembled with urgency, “they’ve come to get you. Tonight.”
I started to ask who they were but the figure vanished inside before I could speak as the door shut behind them.
My heart raced. This was no longer just about leadership. It was about survival.
The figure glanced at the door with nervous eyes before returning their gaze to mine. “You don’t have much time. They know you’re here. The pack’s safer if you leave—now.”
I clenched my fists, my mind racing. Who was “they”? Why now? And why warn me like this? “Who has arrived to take me?” I asked with quiet insistence as I maintained control over my rising fear.
The shadow paused before saying, “One of the old packs returned—the ones you believed were eliminated. They’ve been waiting for the right moment. They aim to dismantle Redwater and bring Derek down before they silence you.
My breath hitched. I thought the battles were over. That peace was finally ours to keep. But this warning shattered that fragile hope.
My eyes traced the stranger’s face as I demanded to know why I was being warned. “What do you want?”
The figure swallowed hard before stating, “You deserve my gratitude.” For what you did—for what you saved. But now… I’m afraid it’s not enough.”
A surge of gratitude mixed with dread. The person who stood before me had sacrificed everything to arrive here in order to share this secret information. The danger existed in reality and approached us at high speed.
I nodded, steadying myself. “Tell Derek. We prepare. We fight—together.”
The figure departed into the night after giving a melancholy smile which left me with their echoing words and the burden of impending danger.
Closing the door, I stepped into my new responsibilities, which now weighed heavily upon me. I was now responsible for safeguarding our entire legacy alongside being Derek's equal partner. Suddenly, I found myself facing a threat for which I was completely unprepared.
The pack was united. Our leadership was stronger than ever. In the darkness, unseen forces lurked, prepared to challenge us with unforeseen trials.
