Killian POV
“Fuck!” I mumbled, approaching the dining with sheer fumes of hatred. A bitterness welled up in my guts immediately after I sat. The maid who came to beckon on me earlier walked in with a jug containing some smoothie which I think would be for dessert.
“I see you are back,” Alpha Simon said as he munched his meal quietly.
“Weren’t you expecting me to return safely?” I retorted, a scowl resting impatiently on my face.
“You might as well tone down on your sarcasm,” Alpha Simon said without looking at my face. His hands were busy grappling with the limb of grilled turkey that lay naked on his plate.
“You telling me what to do now? Is that what this is?” I questioned, demonstrating with my fork as I spoke.
“How did the mission go?” He asked, refusing to address the elephant in the room.
‘Who does this motherfucker think he is. One of his men or what?’ I fumed heavily on my inside, my fingers gripping the fork in my hand firmly.
‘You don’t want to create a scene here, do you? Moreover, you would have to swallow your pride if you desire the merging of both parks to work,’ my wolf advised.
‘You advising me to court my rival because of the supposed merging of our packs?’ I sent back through the mind link.
‘If you didn’t want the merging, you wouldn’t be seated here. So, you should put your high ego aside and make this work!’ My wolf spat.
‘What in the goddess's name are you talking about? Wait a minute, is this you taking Alpha Simon’s side over mine?’ I questioned unbelievably, waiting for a reply which never came again.
“Are you okay?” Alpha Simon asked, concern spreading all over his face.
“Since when did that become your concern!” I shot back, sparks of fury escaping the corner of my eyes. I desperately wished I could tighten my grip on his neck and choke him till he pleads for mercy in the most pitiful way possible.
“You know what? I can’t take this!” He said banging his fist on the glassy table as he stood up, “If we can’t put our differences behind us, then I do not see how this merging would work out!” he blurted angrily, pointing in a random direction.
The muscles of his face contorted into a deadly frown with each unsteady breath he took. Every movement in the room came to a halt instantly. Even the air wreaked of intense anger sparks.
I was tempted to respond with, “So be it. Who cares!” but I had this restrain from the pit of my stomach to keep calm and talk things through with him.
“You have a good point there,” I said staring him straight in the eyes. It was as though a cloud of gloom was lifted off those eyes of his immediately after I uttered the words. Reluctantly, he drew his seat forward and carefully scooped himself some spoons of parfait.
I could see his hand shake slightly as he scooped in the parfait. Maybe it was a condition he had or a resultant effect of the outburst, I wouldn’t know. I spent some time looking at him before I finally continued the conversation.
“The mission came with a lot of hiccups but not a challenge we weren’t able to surmount,” I summarized hastily but calmly, praying he didn’t ask any more questions as my patience was wearing thin by the second.
I helped myself to a cup of smoothie and savoured the rich taste of it before strolling out of the dining room. Not wanting to go into my room again, I diverted my steps to the door that led outside the courtyard.
I didn’t exactly know why I wanted to be outside but I knew I didn’t want to be anywhere around Alpha Simon, at least not for now when the fumes of my fury could still be perceived from a distance.
Looking at the small gazebo that overlooked the mini garage, I found my men having a good time. I was happy that provisions were adequately made for them.
I moved closer to them but halted to examine the car I asked one of my men to take the car off earlier. Its glory had returned. Just as I was about to reach for the keys where he hung them, a sentence from one of my men piqued my interest.
“His eyes, red hair, nose and looks resemble those of the boss, I almost thought he has a son he chooses to hide here in this pack,” he whispered to the rest of them but my ears caught it loud and clear.
“You sure it’s not one of the women he has a thing with? Our boss is versatile in matters like that,” another man spoke confidently. “He is only a Tom but a Dick and a Harry,” He added with certainty oozing out of his tone.
Whatever that meant, I didn’t know, and neither do I give two hoots about it. “Hey guys! Stop being pussies. Come on, make yourselves useful, we have another mission underway,” I intentionally interrupted to curb the gossip and mere rumours.
To show they had acknowledged the order I had given them, some of them picked up the guns they had left on the table in the heat of the gossip while the rest of them busied themselves with checking the number of magazines we had left in the boot.
Leaving the gazebo area, I passed through the sitting room as I made to get to my room. “We will meet in the next tomorrow to discuss the leadership of the merged pack and the way forward with tackling the rogues,” Alpha Simon said, searing through my thoughts.
“Erm…” I wanted to object but changed my mind.
“Have you noticed the striking resemblance he has with her son, the red hair and all?” The breeze blew into my ears the conversation the maids were having as they prepared dinner.
‘Whose son has a striking resemblance with me?’ I thought.
