Chapter 59
Author’s POV
“Damn! It's dawn already?”
Alpha Simon is up pacing around in his room in the early hours of the morning, a scowl smearing his face. He had just woken from a rocky sleep to take a piss when his eye beheld the time.
It was already dawn and he hadn’t heard from Aurora or Alpha Killian since they embarked on the mission to track the rogue leaders who converged at a private party in the outskirts of the town.
His core concern wasn’t even about Alpha Killian but about Aurora and her welfare. It is unlike her not to take her calls. No matter what happened, access to her was never denied him.
“Six missed calls unreturned? Did I make a mistake letting her follow Alpha Killian in my stead?” He soliloquized sorrowfully, his night robes swaying weakly in the early morning breeze as he moved to the gallery overlooking the sitting room.
“Perhaps you did,” a voice replied him from the corridor. Turning swiftly, he looked in the direction where the voice came from and found Tasha simmering in a silky robe in the dim light that emanated from the chandelier that hung majestically in the sitting room.
Tasha was his former beta before Aurora came on board. She never liked the fact that Alpha Simon had chosen Aurora over her as his beta and this bred bitterness and jealousy. She tried all she could to throw herself at him afterward to prove to Aurora that she still had a grip on Alpha Simon.
Unannounced visits, encroaching into personal spaces, and pettiness were her hallmarks. So, her presence in the building only came off as a shocker to Alpha Simon because of the timing.
“I see your rest is troubled. How much has her charm eaten deep into you?” she asked.
“I see how jobless you have become since you were relieved of your position as my beta. You are growing miserable by the day, get yourself fixed,” Alpha Killian spat out.
For a moment, she staggered to gain balance. She didn’t see that coming. “Me? Miserable?” she scoffed, laughing hysterically and pointing her long nails at him.
“Have you forgotten you can’t sleep because you haven’t heard from her since she hopped off with your rival? The very one whom you detest,” she paused for a second and contorted her face like one who was trying to recall a piece of vital information, “Oh, you are scared she would pick him over you as you did me?” she quizzed and gave a loud clap almost simultaneously.
“I see that you have gone bananas but what I fail to understand is who keeps letting you into my space,” Alpha Killian rebutted with creased brows. His eyes were fierce and stern.
“Guards!” He called out immediately and two men rushed into the sitting room. Looking from face to face, he asked. “Which one of you here allowed this, this delusional thing in here without my permission?”
Without giving space for a reply, he continued, “Now, look up here and listen carefully. The next time I set my eyes on her in this palace again, your lives will be at stake and---”
“Seriously?” She cut in
“Not a word from you”, pointing to the guards, he ordered, “See her out!”
Moving back into his room, he decides to dial Aurora’s number for the umpteenth time. He reached for his phone and put a call through to Aurora who still didn’t pick up.
A thought immediately creeps into his mind to dial Alpha Killian’s line. He grits his teeth and slams the phone on the bed in frustration, smacking his fists against each other. In his wildest imaginations, he had never thought a day like this would come when he would be left with an option to dial his rival’s line.
“I would do no such thing!” He thundered into the air to no one in particular. He could hear Tasha screaming at the top of her voice as she was carried out by the guards. “Get those filthy hands off me, I have feet that are not crippled like yours, I will see my way out on my own,” she ordered.
He could no longer go to bed again. It felt like sleep had vanished like a thin air off his eyes. He reached for his clothes in the wardrobe. Taking off his sleeping coat, he slipped into the clothes he had just fished out.
Just as he busied his hands buttoning up his shirt, his ears caught the desperate cries of Aurora’s nanny from a distance. He moved immediately to the window of his room to see if she was approaching the palace already.
There were no approaching footsteps but the desperate cries never ceased. He hurriedly buttoned up his shirt and took a bunch of guards with him straight to Aurora’s house.
As he approached the building, he decided to try his luck by dialing her number once again. He did and the line went through. “What happened? You were not taking my calls, are you alright? Talk to me,” Alpha Simon said almost in a breath.
They communicated for about a few minutes before he revealed that he was heading to her place. “What happened? Are my kids okay?” she quizzed over the phone after ensuring that she was at a measurable distance away from Alpha Killian.
“Aurora, I need you to be calm. I do not know what is happening for sure, I only received a distress call. I don’t want you to worry, all will be fine,” he assured her over the phone.
Alpha Simon alighted at the house. His men surrounded the perimeter while he made his way into the house. His eyes beheld a young man of around twenty-five years of age, comforting Aurora’s nanny who was overtaken by emotions. Her eyes were teary.
“Is this the guy you told me about?” Alpha Simon asked the nanny who stuttered an incoherent reply. “I knew it!” He said, sucking his teeth. “We will yet come to that. What is the matter? Something is off in this atmosphere. Where are the kids?” He asked authoritatively like he was the father of the kids.
