Chapter 156: Go Home
\[Raelyn’s POV\]
I watch as my mother-in-law smiles at the woman, who is pretty beat up and looks like she is slowly breaking.
“Okay,” she smiles, reaching out and wrapping an arm around the woman’s. “If you would follow me.”
“Wait!” I gasp, beginning to struggle against my bindings. “Where are you going?”
“Don’t worry, dear.” My mother-in-law smiles. “I will be back to free you in a moment.”
For a moment, I don’t speak as I try to make sense of what is happening, but when I rack my brain for memories on how I got in this position, I can’t seem to find any.
“Please free me now,” I say slowly. “I doubt Ray will be happy when he hears what you’ve done to me.”
I was pushing it by all but accusing her of putting me in this position, but something inside me wasn’t sitting right.
“I didn’t do a thing.” She tells me as the woman gives me a look that screams apology. “I simply found you like this.”
“Then please free me.”
Why was she keeping me trapped like this if she simply found me?
Nothing about this situation was making sense, and with each passing minute I was becoming more and more uneasy. However, before I can work myself into a frenzy, pain shoots through my abdomen.
“Oh!” I gasp, eyes widening as the coppery taste of blood fills my mouth. “I’m…”
I don’t finish my words before blood erupts from my mouth.
Gasping, I turn my head so that I don’t choke on it, and when the woman rushes toward me and presses her hands against my stomach, I feel magic flow into me.
“What is happening?” My mother-in-law demands. “What is happening with her?”
“She is pregnant with twins.” The woman explains. “I’m certain that you’re aware of what that means.”
Remaining silent, my mother-in-law considers what the woman is saying, and then she nods.
“I see,” she murmurs. “It seems that I won’t be able to allow you or your mother to leave.”
“What?” The woman gasps, her eyes widening. “But you…”
“Things have changed. Since it seems that you know about what is happening to my son’s fiance, I will need to keep you around.”
Eyes widening, the woman looks to me and then my mother-in-law, and I can almost see the distress in her features, but when I think that she is going to refuse and possibly fight, she all but deflates.
“Will you promise my mother’s safety?” She asks. “If you can do that for me, then I will agree.”
Growing quiet, she waits while my mother-in-law considers her words, and when she gives a nod, the woman seems to deflate.
“Alright,” she sighs, turning her gaze back to me. “Then I will do what you ask, but please, can you unchain Raelyn?”
“Of course.”
Smiling, my mother-in-law walks over and tosses a set of keys to the woman, who proceeds to unchain me.
Once she finishes, I sit up and start rubbing my wrists, which are raw from a clear struggle against my bindings, but when I try to remember how any of this happened, I’m still met with nothing.
“Don’t push too hard.” The woman murmurs as if sensing my struggle. “It isn’t good for you or the pups.”
Nodding, I look down at my stomach and then touch it gently.
“Okay,” I murmur, though I still feel uneasy. “I’ll do what you say.”
After that, I am led to a room where a suitcase sits waiting for me.
“What is this?” I ask, looking to my mother-in-law, who has followed me. “Are we going somewhere?”
“That’s right, dear.” She responds, smiling. “We are going home. Ray has been waiting patiently for our return.”
“Ray,” I repeat as the man appears in my mind, and even though I know that I am to marry him before my pups are born, I feel like something is wrong.
“Don’t you miss him as well?” My mother-in-law asks. “Just yesterday you were going on about how much you wanted to see him.”
“Right,” I say slowly, though I don’t feel anything in regard to what she has told me. “I suppose you’re right.”
“Now, why don’t you grab your things so that we can get going?”
She doesn’t wait for me to respond before she turns and heads out of the room.
Remaining in place, I look at the luggage in front of me, and then when I decide that there’s no point in thinking too hard about things, I pick it up and head in the direction my mother-in-law disappeared.
When I find her, she has her own luggage in hand, and she is accompanied by the woman from earlier and another who shares similar features but is clearly older.
“Is everyone ready?” She asks, looking around. “If so, let’s get going.”
No one argues as we head out of the hotel room and then into the lobby, where two men wait for us.
When we reach them, they don’t hesitate to take our things and then lead us to a car that is waiting, and once we are inside, we are moving, but instead of heading to the airport as expected, we head to a small clearing where a private jet is waiting for us.
“Come along,” my mother-in-law announces after we park. “There’s a surprise in the jet for you.”
“A surprise,” I repeat, taking in the jet while I do as instructed.
Smiling, the woman takes my hand and starts to lead me toward the jet, and when we reach it and the door opens, we are met by Ray, who looks extremely uneasy.
“Ray,” my mother-in-law coos, moving forward and embracing her son. “Sorry we kept you waiting.”
“It’s alright,” he responds, turning his gaze to mine, and when they lock, I feel that uneasy feeling again. “But are you certain this is okay?”
As he speaks, he continues to take me in, and I feel like he is trying to tell me something.
“What do you mean?” My mother-in-law asks, untangling herself. “Haven’t you missed your fiancé?”
"I…" he begins but stops as his mother gives him a look of warning. "Yes."
"Great," she beams, smiling. "Then let's not waste any time. We should head back so that we can meet with your grandfather."
"Grandfather," Ray gasps, his eyes widening. "What do you mean, Grandpa? But he …"
"Don't worry about that old man," my mother-in-law assures him. "He will be thrilled to see both of you."
