Chapter 13 CHAPTER THIRTEEN

Chapter 13 CHAPTER THIRTEEN
CHAPTER THIRTEEN

ZARIA’S POV

“Don't get ahead of yourself,” He whispered and walked off.

That asshole, I saw him staring at my ass while I danced, he was fucking drooling.

The thought of him drooling over me was enticing, for no reason, so I swayed my hips more, and now he fucking denied it.

After cleaning, I went to my room, to get some paperwork and hand it over to Gwen.

I would be Luna for just a year, while she will be forever, so she does most of the stuff, which was the least I could do for stealing her position.

We sat under a tree in the garden and began singing.

“I think he cares about you,” Gwen said, breaking the silence.

Gwen has become overly friendly with me, and honestly, I think it was off but tried to ignore the feeling, she might as well be sincere.

“He is your mate, don't be ridiculous,” I scoffed, piling paperwork up, as Elara helped to seal them.

“When my mother and your father met, I knew for a fact that they weren't in love, I know when a man is in love with a woman,” She said.

She sounded so irrational, I won't deny that there is a weird connection with Max, but calling it love is absurd, the asshole had only made my life hell since we met.

“You aren't serious, are you?” I asked, with an arched eyebrow.

“I saw it in his eyes, when I told him about you and Ethan, the jealousy I saw was undeniable, he loves you, but doesn't know it yet and he isn't ready to admit it,” She said and I burst into a round of laughter.

Max and I don't even sleep on the same bed, so how the hell does love want to come into our equation?

Max hates me, and everyone related to me, except Gwen.

“Just finish up with the paperwork, and stop joking around,” I said, choking in my laughter.

“Laugh all you want, I know what I saw” She rolled her eyes, then turned to Elara. “Elara back me up here”

“I don't have any idea,” Elara said coldly, without taking her eyes off what she was doing.

Elara doesn't seem to like Gwen, and she doesn't bother to hide her feelings.

After all the signing process, I retired to my chambers, as it was already nightfall.

I was waiting for Max to speak about going back to school for classes, as I have already missed a lot, when a knock on the door jolted me.

“Come in,” I yelled, and Gwen entered, grinning from ear to ear, like a schoolgirl.

She was holding two glasses of scotch, as she walked towards me slowly, to avoid spilling the drink.

“What are you laughing at?” I asked, confused.

“Well, Max just noticed me, and it was exciting,” She said, and I felt a lump in my throat, was that jealousy?

I felt my heart get shattered a bit, only from hearing Max divert his attention to another girl, even when I knew he wasn't mine.

“I am happy for you, after this stressful year, you will finally be with your man,” I said and she nodded excitedly. “Look, I am sorry for what is going on right now…”

“Come off it, none of it was your fault, besides I deserve it, I have been mean to you since the day I saw you,” She cut me shut, handing me a glass of Scotch.

I really love this part of Gwen, I have always wanted a sister, and it all seemed like getting married to Max was a way to get closer to my sister.

“Why were you mean to me though?” I asked, taking a sip of the Scotch.

“It might seem weird, but it's because you are prettier than I am,” She said, with insecurity laced in her voice.

I find that hard to believe, because when I met Gwen, I felt she was prettier than I was, and would never be able to meet her beauty standard.

“That is weird because I felt the same way,” I scoffed, and her eyes widened in surprise.

She sipped from her scotch, while her eyes were still fixed on me.

“I find that hard to believe, but I regret the hurtful things I did to you then,” She said, “Seeing you do wonderfully well as the Luna made me understand how strong you are”.

Her words were so soothing, tears welled up in my eyes, and before I knew it, I was already tearing up.

“Thank you,” I said, but it came up as a cough, which was weird.

Just at that moment, I felt a burning sensation in the pit of my stomach, but I ignored it, until it became unbearable.

The burning sensation shot up to my throat, it felt hot, like a hot wire scraping my throat, making me unable to breathe well. I began to gasp for air.

“Call…some…one” I choked out, but Gwen didn't move.

It then occurred to me, that she must have spilled something into my drink, she fucking poisoned me.

My eyes began to water and my stomach twisted, and I felt sick right away.

Cold sweat covered my forehead, even though I was burning inside. I grabbed my stomach with both hands, as I fell to the ground.

“I told you that you would regret taking my place, and I fucking meant it,” She scoffed, spilling her scotch on me, as I struggled to breathe.

The burning sensation went to my arms, legs, and even my fingers, I felt paralyzed, and the room began to spin.

I tried to yell, but it came out as a choke.

As minutes went by, it got harder to breathe, my chest was heavy, like someone was pressing it tightly.

The room began to look dim, I took a glimpse of Gwen, who was grinning widely.

“Say hello to your mother when you see her,” She said, and the light went out. Everything was silent, and I fell into the dark.
