Chapter 29

Selene’s POV

It was already night when I woke up to the sound of crickets and other insects chirping. I got up from bed and headed to the bathroom to take a shower.

I completed my usual routines and went downstairs to eat in the kitchen—but when I got there, I was puzzled.

Usually, around this time, the Pack House is lively and noisy, but tonight, I couldn’t even hear a single breath. I slowly set down the glass of water I was holding.

Suddenly, I felt anxious. Where is everyone? Could it be… has it already happened? The thing I feared the most? But it’s still three months away. Is Mom lying to me—or is Logan just cunning?

My heart was beating rapidly. I walked back upstairs and started looking for the other weres, calling out names.

“Dwight?” I called for my mate.

“Rose?” I called my sister this time.

“Where are you?” I kept calling, but no one answered. I walked around the house, searching for them.

Still, no sign of anyone. I started to lose hope, because deep down, I feared Logan might have taken them to use as bait to kill me.

“Darren? Baby, please show yourself.” I called for my child, but still no response.

“Lester?” I entered his room, followed by Josh’s.

“Josh?”

“Kiera? If this is a joke or you're hiding from me, please stop. This isn’t funny.” I said, tears beginning to fall—tears I had been holding back.

Where could they be? I had searched every corner of the Pack House but couldn’t find even a strand of their hair.

I stepped outside, but it was empty too. My knees weakened, and tears streamed down like racers competing to fall first.

I sat on the grass, barefoot, not caring if I got dirty. I hugged my knees and buried my face in them.

What did I do to deserve losing everyone I love? Why now, when I’d rather die than live without them?

What the hell is happening? I sobbed and screamed.

“WHERE ARE YOU ALL?!” I shouted at the top of my lungs. I didn’t care if I lost my voice, as long as I could have my friends, my sister, and my mate back.

The world is so cruel to me. Why can’t I live the life I’ve always wanted? I pressed my face deeper into my knees, soaked in my own tears.

“Hey love, why are you out here?”

Was I hallucinating? Was Logan messing with me again? I covered my ears.

“No, don’t you dare, Logan. Don’t trick me by using my love’s voice,” I said with a trembling voice.

I shook my head. Then, suddenly, I felt something warm wrap around me.

“Shhh Selene, I’m here. Look at me, love.”

No! I won’t believe it!

“No, you can’t trick me. Don’t pretend to be Dwight. Please, if you want to kill me, just do it!” I yelled hysterically, still not lifting my head.

He sighed deeply. The man who owned that voice held my jaw and lifted my face to look into his eyes.

“Look into my eyes. It’s me. I am your mate, and you are mine…” he said possessively. I stared at him, studying every part of his face. I smiled despite the tears still falling.

Tears of joy. He’s alive! He’s really alive! I immediately hugged him and cried on his chest, burying my face in his neck, breathing in his scent. His scent always calms me.

No, I’m not mistaken. This is my mate. The man I love. Logan didn’t take them. He kissed the top of my head while we stayed like that for minutes.

“Ahem, maybe save the sweetness for your bedroom?” I looked up. There stood my sister, clearly annoyed.

I smiled. The weight on my chest lifted when I saw that they were all safe. I let go of Dwight and stood up.

I stared at my sister, just as I did with Dwight. Then, I hugged her tightly.

“Don’t ever leave me again—especially if I wake up with no one around the Pack House. I might go insane,” I whispered into her neck.

They nodded, understanding why I panicked like that.

“You’re so dramatic, sis! We were just in the backyard waiting for you to wake up. Dwight has a surprise for you,” she said.

Surprise?

“Oops! Did I say that out loud? Oops!” She clapped her hand over her mouth. I looked at Dwight.

She’s really a spoiler when it comes to things like this—more excited than the person receiving the surprise.

“The Pack House was empty because we prepared something special for you out back. You’ve been under stress, love, so I planned it all.”

I was speechless. So this was the reason? I embarrassed myself for nothing.

“I guess it’s not a surprise anymore,” he added as he hugged me tightly.

“Wow, best actress award goes to you, sis! Even better than Nora Aunor or Vilma Santos with your shouting earlier. Hahaha.”

I narrowed my eyes at her. How was I supposed to know they were just outside?

I wished someone had told me. My face turned red from embarrassment. I rolled my eyes and noticed that all the Pack House members were surrounding us.

Did they all see my emotional meltdown?

“Yes, love, they saw you. We all ran here when you screamed,” Dwight said, making me blush even more. I hid my face in his chest as he laughed.

“Don’t be shy, love. It was cute,” he whispered huskily in my ear.

Ugh! That voice—how could it still affect me like that?

“Alright, enough of that. Save it for later, you two. Don’t forget there’s a surprise, remember?” Rose said with her brows raised. She really knows how to ruin a moment.

“Rose is right. You need to get ready. Go with her,” Dwight said. I nodded. Do I even have a choice? I guess not.

Rose dragged me off and took me to Keira’s room.

W-wait! What are we doing here?

“Hey! This is an invasion of privacy! This is Keira’s room!” I protested, holding tightly to the doorframe.

“She gave us permission to enter. Besides, this is where Dwight had your dress delivered,” she said as she kept pulling me inside like we were playing tug of war.

“Sis, come on! Don’t you want to see Dwight’s surprise or not?” She crossed her arms. I pouted.

“Why here? Can’t we just get ready in my room?” I grumbled. She rolled her eyes. She’s lucky I’m too tired to argue.

“As if you’re a fashionista. You don’t even like makeup!”

Anyone want to slap my sister? No one? Fine. I’ll follow her even if I don’t want to.

I stomped into Keira’s room and sat on her bed.

Keira’s room was a mix of purple and white, and very organized. Rose entered with a smug smile.

"Wow, Keira’s room is so clean and organized, unlike someone else's," I muttered while looking at her.

She shrugged. What?! It didn’t affect her?

“Whatever. Just go shower and sit in front of the mirror afterward,” she ordered.

This bossy sister of mine… In a few minutes, I was sitting in front of the mirror wearing a robe. She blindfolded me.

I frowned but didn’t ask. I wouldn’t win this argument anyway. She started working on my hair.

How did she learn this? Maybe Keira taught her. I didn’t know she had this girly side—I thought she was totally tomboyish.

“Ouch! Be gentle,” I complained when she tugged too hard. She just clicked her tongue and continued.

She finished my hair, then dressed me and put on my shoes. She helped me stand.

“Who would’ve thought you could actually look good, sis?” she teased. If I weren’t blindfolded, I would’ve smacked her.

She dragged me again. They’re always dragging me somewhere lately.

If I trip, I won’t forgive them!

She finally stopped and let go of me.

“Rose! Rose! Where are you going?!” I asked nervously, still blindfolded. She giggled.

“Don’t worry, sis. We’re all here. This is the surprise I was telling you about. I’m happy for you... Always remember, you're the best sister in the world,” she said emotionally.

I didn’t know what was going on, but I started crying. Then someone removed the blindfold.

I slowly opened my eyes—and gasped when I saw my surprise.

Tears flowed even more—this time not from sadness, but because a new chapter of my life was about to begin.

My eyes were fixed on the man standing at the altar they had prepared.

Yes, it’s my wedding.

I might be the only bride who didn’t know she was getting married today.

My tears kept flowing, but everyone around me was smiling. They were happy for us.

The wedding music began. Was he the one who arranged all this?

The motif was blue and silver—my favorite colors.

Keira and Rose wore blue cocktail dresses. They looked so pretty.

My little man, Darren, looked adorable in his tiny tuxedo. The men beside Dwight looked very handsome, too.

Then, my favorite song started playing...

> Today was a fairytale, you were the prince…

As I walked down the aisle, memories of how we first met flashed through my mind, like a dream I never wanted to wake up from...

(🎵 Lyrics continue as written...)

Finally, I reached the altar where my mate stood, handsome and proud. I gave him a quick kiss on the lips and whispered, “Thank you.” He wiped my tears.

He turned me toward the priest, who began the ceremony. But my attention was solely on the man beside me.

“Do you, Selene Dawn, take Dwight Light as your lawfully wedded husband, for richer and poorer, in sickness and in health, till death do you part?”

Oh—so we’re at that part already?

“Love, the priest is asking you,” he said, concerned.

Hahaha, let’s delay the wedding for a moment.

“Wait, I just have a question. You prepared this wedding… What if I say no?” I asked him.

Just curious. He turned pale, and I saw pain in his eyes as he sighed.

“Then I’ll wait until you’re ready,” he said, disappointed.

Pffft. I laughed out loud at his answer.

Everyone fell silent, confused. I cupped his face and pecked him on the lips.

“Why would you wait if I’m ready now? I was just joking. I love you, so of course, I won’t make you wait.”

I turned to the priest and smiled warmly.

“And for your question, Father—my answer is definitely a big YES.”
