Chapter 110
BRADLEY
I stared at the file even more. I needed to find a more recent list; this was older, and it wouldn't have as much current information as a later one would.
That would tell me and show me all the packs who are still in on it.
I decided to exit the file and go to the last one. I wondered what I would find in it.
The heading read, “DETAILS OF EXPERIMENT E"
I began to read through the various paragraphs.
Experiment E is a modern experiment to combat the weakness of soldiers. It is to create superwolf soldiers. 11/02/04
Progress has been fifteen percent so far, the witch is still creating her potions and making her slow progress. 17/09/04
The subjects died, all within a few hours, rotting even faster, a failure. 15/10/05
We've noted so many failures that the other packs are beginning to pull out. 11/02/06
New packs are being recruited, but it has not been easy without the money needed 09/03/06
After that, the updates stopped. Just these four vital points. The last update was also seven years ago, at least on here.
Maybe the encrypted file would contain more if we saw what was in it.
I reread the notes, the experiment had begun almost ten years ago, maybe even further back. Right under my nose, all this while it had been happening.
I exited his documents and went to his other apps, there was nothing in them. Most of it was just his work details.
I decided to check his notes app then. Maybe there would be something there I hadn't seen before.
There were only two notes. The first one had a code in it, and I didn't know what it was. 22/1/em/JC/B/L/99-6
I couldn't think of what it meant, it looked like a code, for what? Did the letters mean anything? The numbers?
I wasn't sure. I decided I would ask Liam whenever he came back.
I went to the second note and there I found all I had been looking for, not all.
“The twenty-five million dollars have been stolen, he has taken his share, and we've sent it across. Successful, boss is happy." That was it; all I needed to know was that money had made its way into this experiment.
I ran my hand through my hair, I searched again to make sure I wasn't missing anything, and when I was sure, I closed the computer and put it aside.
There was too much happening here. A lot of information.
The list of alphas involved, or packs rather, was vital information. I just needed one of them to explain in great detail what the experiment was about.
I looked out my window to see that dusk was approaching; I had been so occupied that I hadn't noticed.
I stood up, heading to the kitchen. I needed to eat something. I could feel the climax coming, war was approaching and I had to be ready.
This army they were creating, it wasn't just for anything, and with years of preparation, I wondered if I would even be ready.
I took some snacks and headed back to my office.
On my way back, I heard Diana's voice; she was back.
I waited for her to come closer before I saw her. Jonathan was walking in behind her.
I gave her a small smile.
“You're back," I said.
She nodded. She looked tired. I gestured for her to follow me. It was time to update each other about what we had done so far.
I led her to the chair and sat opposite her, both of us quiet while I ate my food.
She stood up and went outside. I ate.
Soon she was back in with snacks as well, a smile fell on the edge of my lips at that.
We both ate silently, I finished faster, drinking water and waiting. When she finished I said, “So what did you find out?"
She shook her head, “Yes, this uncle J was real indeed he was"
I had expected that he had revealed himself, which also meant somehow he was or had an affiliation with her family.
“Anything else?" I asked.
“No, the cook, he knew something, but he refused to speak, so Jonathan and I have kept a wolf to watch him; he seemed to be hiding something," she said, stopping abruptly.
She rubbed her head and now I was worried. “Are you okay?" I asked.
She shook her head, “I just have a headache. I think I'm going to rest" she said.
“I have something to show you," I told her before she could leave. I wanted to show her what I had found.
I turned the laptop back on, showing her the files stored in it. I wanted to see her opinion on it.
“What is this?" She asked surprised.
I let her read it, shock, surprise, and alarm, these emotions taking over her face entirely.
Just as I had felt when I had read it myself.
She shook her head when she had finished. “Oh wow. That is a lot" she said.
I shrugged, “A lot of useful information in finding out what this whole thing was"
I changed to the notes application and showed her the note as well.
“So they did steal it indeed" she muttered to herself. She looked thoughtful.
“I wonder why" I answered.
Her eyes brightened at my words. “I think I can guess why. Damon has gone bankrupt, he needed the support of the Whitemore pack to survive, which means he couldn't find the experiment as much as they needed"
The dots began to connect then. “I don't think Jay Cross actually had funded or agreed to" I continued.
She nodded her head, a little bit of flow had come in, “So they had to steal the money to be able to continue, for Idris to be the first success" she finished for me.
We both stared at each other. The puzzle was coming together beautifully, indeed it was.
The missing part was what the experiment actually entailed and who was behind it. It wasn't Damon, he didn't strike me as someone smart enough to do that.
“Do you think it's Damon?" I asked her to confirm my thoughts.
She gave me a look of surprise and a funny look. “No, it's definitely not him" she answered.
I shrugged, I just wanted to make sure.
Suddenly, an idea struck me, “Was there any name from the group of people that received the money that had names that began with J?"
She looked at me, approval. “I think Liam will know"
I picked up my phone and sent him the question. I needed to know, so I made it known that I needed the answer immediately.
In three minutes a text came in. ‘Just two Alphas, Jeremiah Brent and Jaherech Tanner’ it read.
I turned to my desktop and searched for the names.
Jeremiah Brent belonged to another pack in the Blue state, the Cartel pack, the second most powerful. I remembered seeing their name in the list as well.
He had been missing me for about two months, based on the information I found on the internet. Fuck, just another experiment it seemed.
“One is an experiment," I told Diana.
She turned around to stand behind me.
I decided to search the second name, Jaherech Tanner. He was a member of a pack, the Moon pack.
He had been missing for nearly six months, just another experiment. Two dead ends. This J was still missing.
I could feel annoyance and anger flood into me, almost drowning me.
We had moved further so much and yet still so far behind.
Diana turned to me, “A dead end for now, we don't know what else there could be"
I told her about the encrypted file. That there could be even more vital information in it.
She looked pleased as I explained to her everything that had happened at the council meeting.
“We're making far more progress now," she said.
I nodded, I couldn't help but agree with her. We were indeed making more progress.
I was only eager to find this J, from what I had seen so far. He was the man who had killed my parents, he had confirmed it himself as well.
I wanted to find him, to find him and tear him into pieces. Just as he had done to my parents and Diana's.
“I'm going out for now," Diana said and began to walk away.
“Out to where"? I asked her.
“I just need to breathe, Jonathan will follow me. I'm going back to take a walk," she said.
I wasn't so sure, but then the security cameras were working, and I would watch her.
I nodded for her to leave.
As soon as she left, Elias walked in.
“Good evening, Alpha," he greeted.
“Anything new?" I asked.
He began, “Well, the sticks have risen with gusto but are on their way down. The Sean pack wants to join our pack now; they are complaining that Damon is taking advantage of them." he paused, and I let the message sink in.
Of course, Damon would do that.
He continued, “There was a security breach in one of our security companies."
My head snapped up at that, “What do you mean?" I was surprised.
“Yes, alpha, a hacker went into their systems, they were trying to decode something, but our guys found out fast enough and intercepted it," he said.
“I don't pay them to let that happen" I shouted in anger.
