Chapter 24 The Date
Elena’s POV
After seeing Ashley and hearing what she had to say, I thought it would make me feel better if I knew why she did it.
But it didn’t.
How could she be so selfish? She could have told me.
I sighed.
Would I have done the same if I was in her shoes? Maybe, maybe not, but she had hurt me and I wasn’t sure if I could forgive her for what she did.
Clara had tried to make me happy after seeing Ashley, but I just couldn’t.
I just wanted to go back to my room and be alone. I had spent the whole day sleeping and woke up feeling worse in the morning.
Liam and I had our first argument today but it didn’t last long. I knew he was worried but I just couldn't stay still when something was going on.
I blushed hard because I was going on a date with Liam.
I was so excited but I still felt exhausted from yesterday.
I curled up in my bed after taking a cold shower, hoping it would help but didn’t.
I tried to forget all the bad things that happened and focus on Liam and our date tonight but I couldn’t, finally I fell asleep.
I opened my eyes, and I was in a dark room. There was nothing, just a place of darkness.
I took a deep breath and started walking. I don’t know how long I walked but then I saw a door.
A white door.
I got closer and pushed it open.
“You need to listen to me, Kira,” a tall man with black hair and brown eyes said.
Why did he look so familiar?
“I have been listening to you, Lucas, you want me to leave her and do what? Run away.” A woman said but I couldn't see her face because she was looking at the man.
“Not run away. We need to get her somewhere safe, they have found us, Kira. She wouldn’t be safe with us.”
“I just can’t Lucas, she’s my daughter, what if we leave her and they come for her?” Kira cried.
“Just leave it to me okay, nothing will happen to her, she’s my daughter too,” Lucas said, holding Kira in his arms.
He looked up and looked at me.
I froze.
Could he see me?
I didn’t wait to be sure. I shut the door, running back to where I came from.
I woke up, feeling weird.
Who were they?
I groaned as I stood up, I turned to look at the clock.
“No,” I rushed to get up, it was already evening and I wasn’t ready.
I rushed into the bathroom. Brushing my teeth and trying to arrange my curls.
I scrubbed my body once but went at it again just to be sure I was really clean.
I ran to the wardrobe, searching for something new to wear.
I had asked Liam where we were going but he said it was a surprise. Who knew he could be so cute.
Finally, I went with a cute short black dress that hugged my body.
“Hey Elena, Liam said I should come get you,” Clara called from outside my room.
“Okay, I’m coming,”
I rushed to the mirror, arranging my hair and putting on some makeup.
I smiled at myself when I was done.“Okay, I’m ready now,” I said, opening my door.
“You look good Elena, and is that makeup? And you said you couldn’t do it,” Clara joked.
“Well I had time to practice,” I blushed.
“Okay, let’s go.”
Clara took me to the rooftop.
“Have fun,” she smiled and left.
I opened the door.
The place was filled with lanterns that glowed with different colors and blankets were spread on the floor and fluffy pillows arranged carefully.
“I thought you changed your mind about coming,” Liam said with a smile that melted my insides.
He was holding a basket that was filled with snacks.
“I’m sorry,” I said. “I fell asleep.”
“It’s okay, you are here now.” He dropped the basket and walked up to me.
He held out his hand.
I took it.
The night unfolded gently.
We ate, talked, laughed—really laughed, and for the first time in what felt like forever, the weight on my chest eased.
At one point, Liam grew quiet, staring out at the pack below.
“You remember the guard that tried to attack you during the council meeting,” he looked at me.
I nodded, how would I forget. He almost killed me.
“He was about to give us some real information about what was really going on but then he bled out before we could do anything.”
“But how?”
“Probably the work of a witch,” Liam said.
I was quiet. I wasn't sure what I was going to say. How did a witch get involved in all of this and what did they want from me so badly that they were trying to kill me?
“Sometimes,” he said slowly, “I’m scared I won’t be enough.”
I turned toward him. “Enough for what?”
“For you,” he admitted. “For this pack. For what’s coming.”
I reached for his hand. “You don’t have to be perfect. Just… real.”
He looked at me then, really looked at me.
I told him about the dream. About the man and the woman. About the baby.
His grip tightened slightly, but he didn’t interrupt.
When I finished, he exhaled. “Whatever it means, we’ll figure it out together.”
Together.
The word wrapped around my heart like warmth.
The space between us disappeared.
His hand slid to my waist, mine to his chest, and when he kissed me, it was slow at first, then hungry, desperate.
I kissed him back with everything I had, my insides burning up from desire.
For this moment, for this night, I wasn’t afraid.
I was exactly where I was meant to be.
