Chapter 43: Hazel's Silver Wolf
Jordan's POV
I shuffled in my bed, pushing the sheets away. As the rays of the morning sun invaded my chambers from the slightly drawn curtains, I struggled to open my eyes.
For the first time in a long time, I felt like I had actually slept and gotten some rest.
However, I notice that I wasn't alone in that bed.
There was a warmth that I couldn't quite understand in that moment. But,it was inviting.
It was drawing me in like a magnet, and that's when I pulled myself to sit up and look to my side.
I slowly moved my hand, pulling the sheets that were to my side down. The bulge showed that there was someone there.
It couldn't be Claudia.
I don't recall asking her to join me in my chambers for a long time. Even though she was my fiancée, she had her own room
That's what she got when she took the deal to become my stand in for the position Hazel should have taken five years ago.
Hazel!
My mind instantly snapped as the sheets revealed a woman's back.
Hair cascade down her spine in strands that looked ruffled. As I raised my head, I noticed that the hair was held in a bun.
The body moved as she breathed.
As I watched the woman's back, I could see from the sun rays that landed on her skin that she had one of the softest skins that I had ever seen.
It glowed under the sunlight, and as my eyes moved downwards, I saw the mark and confirmed that it was Hazel.
With a mark so big that it covered most of her back, it triggered flashbacks of the previous night.
I recalled how I brought her back to the pack, infuriated at why she had the audacity to go out of the pack and talk to a rogue.
That had to be the stupidest thing that she might have done all her life.
However, that was not where my thoughts wanted to reside.
Instead, it is what happened when I brought her back to the pack that had my full attention.
I remembered the huge argument that we had when tensions went high. And then, I couldn't hold it any longer.
The thought of anyone else having their hands on her infuriated me. So, I threw myself on her.
My lips crashed into hers. And it felt just like the day I kissed her in front of Logan, magical.
However, this time it was more magical because she kissed me back.
Emotions were high, and Atlas was begging for control.
I couldn't let him. Not after he almost killed her the last time that I shifted.
However, I gave him what he wanted, a show that he had been hungering for years.
Before I knew it, clothes were all over the place.
Hazel's moans filled the room and my grunts as I fucked her rattled the place.
We were finally doing it.
She was on top of me, riding like a pro although it was her first time.
I held on to her hips and slammer her right back down everytime that her body elevated as if she was about to ascend to the heavens.
This time, I wasn't dreaming about it. It had actually happened.
'Wait, what about the poison that ate away at me everytime I was around her? The poison that the witches gave me five years ago?' I asked myself.
Everytime that I was around Hazel, the poison would flare up inside my body, and it only got worse the previous night when she and I were mating.
However, I powered through it, blocking the pain that surged through my body.
"If I perish, I perish!"
That was the only thing that I could think about, standing my ground that if I were to die, I would rather die in the hands of the woman that I loved most.
It should have been flaring up with her next to me, but it wasn't.
Heck, my alarms went off inside my head when I was looking at Hazel and noticed that the mark on her back was vanishing.
In a matter of seconds, it was gone.
And as my eyes searched how now bare back, the only thing that was on her back was the distinct mark on her lower shoulder.
The mark.
I had finally marked her, and I wasn't dead.
"Why can't I feel the poison anymore?" I asked Atlas as I paused to see if I could feel anything.
"Jordan, the curse is......gone." Atlas said to me as I realized that for the first time, my thoughts weren't clashed with his.
I was.....sane.
The curse had been eating away at my sanity that I usually failed to know what was real and what wasn't.
But that morning, my head was so clear. And with Hazel next to me, I knew that she was real.
Just as I was trying to grasp the reality that I could no longer feel the pull of the curse drawing me into the feral world and the poison inside me was no longer acting up, Hazel moved.
In fact, she groaned.
I wanted to wake her up, but I didn't want to disturb her sleep.
"Could she have cured me and broken the curse?" I asked Atlas.
But before he could answer me, Hazel groaned again. This time however, she groggily brought her hand to her back, just where I had marked her.
And as if by a trigger, the moment her fingers touched the mark, she let out a scream.
The scream was so sudden that I was immediately out of the bed and rushing to her side to as if she was okay.
But that didn't happen.
As I was about to move to her side of the bed, she dropped off the bed and even pulled the sheets with her, covering her body right as I turned the corner.
I was about to pull the sheet when I heard something familiar.
The sound of bones breaking and arranging themselves into new bones.
She shuffled under the sheets as I watched and listened in dismay.
She was shifting.
'Lucia told me that she had sealed her wolf.' I said to myself, wondering how that was possible.
"Could it be that she was the answer all this time. She broke out curse, cured us and when the mark disappeared from her back, she broke the seal that kept her wolf away?" Atlas asked.
It wasn't a question that needed answers.
I could already feel it. The adrenaline started coursing through my body as I watched and felt my mate shifting.
According to Hazel's mother, that would be her second shift. And it must've been painful as hell for her because beneath the sheet, she groaned and writhed in pain.
And then, it was all over.
The room went dead silent as the sheets moved much more gently. And then, a growl escaped from underneath.
I took a step back, watching as the sheets moved slowly.
"She could be feral." Atlas warned.
I almost brushed it off, but reconsidered when I thought that perhaps to break the seal, she had to take my curse and poison.
It was a possibility, and I wasn't sure that I would have been able to live with that knowledge in my head.
I was the one that was to bear that cross, and not her.
However, I couldn't feel any hostility coming from underneath the sheets.
And as I watched, Hazel finally emerged.
She was in her wolf form, as gracious as she could be as she looked up into my eyes.
And then I saw it. Her silver fur.
The reason why her mother sealed her wolf and prevented her from shifting all these years.
It shined under the sun's rays and reflected all over the place.
I felt like I was looking at broken glass under the sun as she reflected most of the light away from her body.
"Lucia wasn't lying. She is the silver wolf, gifted by the moon goddess herself with power unlike any other." Atlas said to me.
"Yeah she is. The myth of the silver wolf whose blood could grant eternity to any wolf and she could bring someone back from the dead is actually true." I responded to him.
Hazel walked to me, and rubbed her head on my feet, as she then moved to the balcony that overlooked the pack and stood there.
Looking back, I felt like she was inviting me to join her. And for the first time since she had become my mate, I actually wanted to shift.
"How stable are you?" I asked Atlas, a bit hesitant that I might be going in over my head.
"The most that I've been in years." He responded with a growl as I felt the urge to join my mate on the balcony.
And with that, I let go and allowed him to shift.
I dropped to the ground and in a matter of seconds, I was in my wolf from, and just like he had promised, Atlas was in full control.
I no longer felt like I was in the backseat of my own body when I was in that form.
He walked next to Hazel and the two of us stood at the balcony, overlooking the pack.
I recalled Lucia's warning about Hazel, "The day the seal around Hazel's wolf is broken and she shifts. Her wolf will attract all kinds of threats from all kinds of supernaturals."
"I'll protect her from anyone that thinks they can take her. Over my dead body!" I vowed as the two of us let out a howl in sync that it sounded all over the pack.
