Chapter 157 CHAPTER 157
Evelyn’s POV
After Jolene left, I sat down quietly for a while thinking of what she had said. I didn’t trust her, not after she had sold a lie about me to Alpha Roman just to get an internship placement at his company. This thing she said about Rosaleen was serious. I knew Rosaleen and Alpha Roman were working together at a point to tear my company down, but I didn't think she was having an affair. Much less that there was a recorded sex tape.
I crossed her serial number off the list. Jolene and I could never have any type of relationship again. My mind suddenly went back to those days in college when i hated Alpha Michael and she was my best friend.
I sighed. So many things had changed since then, and still, so many things felt the same.
There was a tap on the door and my PA stepped in. She looked surprised to see me at work.
“I thought you promised not to come to work until next week,” she said.
I laughed gently. “I’d run out of my mind if I don't get busy. I’m just doing light stuff.”
She nodded. “I saw a couple of people waiting outside. About 3. Are you trying to fill up a position?”
“I’m looking for a nanny,” I said.
She laughed. “Okay. I get you. I thought you were single handedly running a hiring screening. Any luck?”
“Not yet.”
She placed a file on my table. “Since you are working lightly, let me drop this on your desk. It’s the finalization of the merger with Greywood’s. I just need your signature here.” she pointed to the blank space on the document.
My eyes traveled through the length of the document. The partnership we were about to start with Greywood’s was one of my biggest dreams for the company. That way we can expand while remaining debt free. I glanced through the agreement again, even though Shane and I had checked multiple times.
“Seems okay,” I said, uncapping my pen.
I signed at the bottom and she picked the form. “I’ll have this emailed immediately,” she said.
“No,” I said. “Drop it. I’ll take it to Greywood’s by myself on my way home.”
Perhaps it was an excuse to see Alpha Michael again. But I told myself that I was just ensuring that an important document was properly delivered.
I saw from her eyes that she wanted to say something but she didn’t.
“Alright, ma’am.”
The nanny hunting continued for another hour and I had two promising options by the time I was done.
I slipped into my office closet and refreshed a little, topping my makeup and adding more fragrance to my body. My eyes fell on my body in the pants I was putting on. I looked great. Then I laughed at myself for doing all these just to get a letter submitted.
I drove to Greywood’s and as the door swung open, I relished the memory of when I was entering the building as the wife of Alpha Michael Greywood. I was directed to the office of partnership, even though I knew just exactly where it was.
The director was one person I never got along with while I was at Greywood’s. She was friends with Rosaleen and I knew she hated my guts. I’d imagined that I would meet Alpha Michael and hand him the letter directly, but he was out and I had to just take my letter to her office.
She pretended to be happy to see me.
“I haven’t seen you in ages. Not since I heard about you being in a coma. You must have nine lives,” she said.
I sat down as she was delaying to offer me a seat. “Thank you. It’s good to see you too.”
“What can I do for you, ma’am?”
“I’m here concerning the partnership between my company and Greywood’s that is in the pipeline. I’m sure you are aware of the partnership?” I reached for the letter. “I’m here to personally submit our acceptance of the contract agreed upon.”
She slipped her glasses on and tapped on her laptop. She was tapping for so long and nodding intermittently that it was getting me worked up.
“Yes, yes. There was an update about this a few minutes ago,” she said, finally looking at me. “The board has decided to pull the plug.”
I didn’t understand her at first.
“I just got an update as regards that, ma’am. Greywood is no longer interested in partnering with Moon’s enterprises.”
“Why? Why were we not formally informed about this? I asked, irritation crawling in my voice. The idea of the partnership had come from Alpha Michael. Why would they pull out the plug in such a demeaning manner?
“Like I said, it happened just now. I just received the update. We would have notified your company as soon as I got it.”
I got up. “Thanks for your time. I’ll still be expecting that letter.”
I walked out of the office, angry and insulted. But instead of walking out of Greywood’s, I found myself taking the lift to the executive floor. If Alpha Michael was in, he had to explain what this news I had just gotten meant.
I walked down the corridor as I got off the lift, my heels hitting the tiles at a fast pace. There were slight changes to some of the offices but I found Alpha Michael’s office easily.
“He’s not on seat,” his secretary said. “But Alpha Raymond is available, if you need to discuss something urgently.”
“Thank you.”
I walked towards Alpha Raymond’s office. The door was open and his secretary was not at her desk. I tapped on the door and walked in.
He lifted his head up, saw me, and lowered it.
“I just got news that the merger we were planning with Greywood’s has been killed,” I said, without offering any greetings. “Is that true?”
“It is true,” he answered coldly.
“Why?”
He looked up. “We reviewed the numbers again and we decided it would be best to stop the partnership.”
I stepped forward. “I know what this is about, Alpha Raymond. You’ve had your last laugh tonight.” I started to turn away, then stopped.
“And stop those ridiculous
notes and gifts you send to my mother. Whatever your intentions are, we don’t want them.”
