Chapter 104 CHAPTER 104
Michael’s POV
When Rosaleen stepped into the office, she was disgusted and annoyed. She leaned against the chair and refused to take a seat. I wasn’t really thinking about her. I was thinking about the date Evelyn and I would have that evening.
“What did she want?” she asked.
I looked up at her and hoped I had not been smiling unconsciously. “Business,” I replied. “What do you want to tell me, Rosaleen?”
She scoffed. “You shouldn’t play into her tricks,” she said. “I know she’s here about those products. But I have a way to get her to forget about them and never bother our company again.”
I was silent for a while. The effrontery she had to say this to me was enough to keep me speechless.
“And what is that?” I asked.
She leaned in. “I know a little dirty secret she has.”
My mind raced. Was it about the pregnancy that I was hoping was mine?
“She is a nine tailed fox,”she said finally.
I didn't know when I let out a deep sigh of relief. She frowned.
“What? You don’t think that is enough?”
“I think you have done enough, Rosaleen,” I responded. “You stole from her and we wouldn’t have been in this mess if you hadn’t in the first place.”
She scoffed. “Well, don’t act like your company didn’t benefit from it.”
I rose up. “I told you to stay away from Evelyn Moon, Rosaleen,” I said, my voice rising with anger. “I don’t want you planning or scheming anything against her again. I promise you, if you do, I won't mind dragging you to hell even if I get burnt myself.”
Her mouth hung open. “You… you…”
“Go,” I said, pointing at the door. “Get busy. Travel out. Spend some money. That’s what you are good at.”
She blinked, hurt.
“I’ll make sure I ruin you if you ever get back to her,” she said and stormed out of the office.
I slammed my fist on the desk and collapsed on the chair. I needed Rosaleen out of my life. There were just a few days left until the election and all this madness would be over.
I would fight for Evelyn because life had little meaning without her in it.
—
I wanted a date that would give us some private time together. One that was not too common. I sent a driver to pick her up and when she was dropped in front of an ocean, she laughed.
“I was dressed for dinner,” she said, the sea wind blowing her hair and her dress in the air.
She was like a vision. She was perfect.
“I said a date,” I said, walking towards her.
She was still smiling. Perhaps she had forgotten that she was determined to hate me. We hugged. She smelt of everything heavenly.
“You look like an adventurer," I said looking into her eyes.
Her smile faltered a little. “Is this a good idea, Michael?”
I pulled her towards me as I ran towards the yacht. “We’ll never know if we don’t find out.”
She ran after me, loosening up and I was convinced we were going to have the best date ever.
The yacht moved slowly. There was a dinner set up on the deck. She stopped and gasped. “This is beautiful.”
“Take it as an apology for everything I put you through,” I said.
She laughed again. “This doesn’t cover it.”
“I know.” I pulled out her chair and she sat on it.
The wind blew our candles out soon enough and only a little light from some tiny red bulbs gave us some light.
We sat quietly for a while, each of us thinking of the same thing.
“You…”
“I…”
We spoke at the same time, and we laughed.
“Go ahead,” she said.
“I was thinking about how I was looking for my mate all these years and you were right there beside me,”I said. “It feels like an awful prank.”
She didn’t smile. “You think I am your mate, Alpha Michael?”
“I don’t think, I know. You know it too, don’t you? Can you tell, as a nine tailed fox, who your mate is?”
She dipped the chicken breast into the sauce and chewed it slowly. “Does it matter?” she asked. She tried to make it sound so simple but I could catch the look of hurt in her eyes. “You are Alpha Michael Greywood. Your father is going to be the Mayor of New York soon. No one expects you to be with me.”
“I’ve never been fond of doing what people expect,” I said. “What I really care about is if you are willing to be by my side.”
She looked at me. “Will you be able to stand everything that would come our way? Do you understand you may lose everything if you declare me as your mate.”
Her words hurt me because she didn’t understand the depth of the affection I had for her. Nothing was worth more than her.
“I don’t care about these things -”
“Yes, you do,” she cut me short. “You were raised in this life. You would hate me if you lost everything.”
She was right. I could lose everything. But she was wrong thinking I'd hate her for it.
“What do you need me to do to show you these things don’t matter to me?” I asked.
She laughed. Her eyes fell on my shirt. Then she looked all around us. “Don’t make promises you can’t keep, Alpha Michael.”
I leaned forward. “Say it. I need you to challenge me.”
She nodded slowly. “It’s not just about you, you know? You think you might be able to handle it all. I won’t. I’ll hate to see you become rejected by everyone because of me. I will never be able to live with it.”
“I want you answer a question, Evelyn Moon. and I want you to tell me the truth.” My eyes fell down her body. “Is the baby mine?”
