Chapter 102 CHAPTER 102
Rosaleen’s POV
I rolled and pulled the duvet over my ears but the vibrations continued. I grunted. I had turned off the alarms and placed my phone on DND because I didn't want to be disturbed. I finally reached for it and saw it was from the correctional center. My heart leapt. Were they calling me to inform me that Xavier was dead? Did Ignatio’s contact finally do it?
I listened to the usual sound after I picked the call.
“Yes, I accept the charges,” I answered.
A connecting sound played for a few seconds. I looked around the room. I was in a different apartment now. Alpha Michael had asked me to move out until we were officially married. Even Alpha Raymond was done with taking my side. I guess he was very disappointed to find out that I had stolen those products from Evelyn Moon.
“Hello.”
I blinked back into reality. A sad one. It was Xavier’s voice.
“Xavier?” I asked, my voice trembling.
“You sound disappointed to hear my voice, Rosaleen,” he said. “Were you expecting a call from someone else from here?”
“Why? Not at all. I’m just surprised to hear from you this early in the day. What do you want?”
His voice dropped to a whisper. “You know what I want, Rosaleen. I told you. Don’t try me. I can ruin your life as quick as a snap of a finger. I’ve given you too many chances.”
I bit my lips. “I can’t do that. You messed everything up. You had just one job to do and you messed it up. You are suffering the consequences of your carelessness, Xavier.”
There was a short pause.
“You have only three days before I start talking, Rosaleen. And I'll tell them everything I know. I’ll take a deal in exchange to hand you over. Three days, Rosaleen. Get me out or you crumble. And.. don’t even think of sending your assassin again.”
He dropped the call. I stared at the phone for a few seconds, then tossed it away angrily. Why was it getting so hard to kill the bastard? Why didn’t i kill him when i had the opportunity earlier? I was never going to allow him to ruin my life. Not now when things were a bit delicate. I was in that trying phase before I got everything I'd ever wanted.
I kicked the sheets away and got out of bed. I walked into the bathroom and took another phone from the cupboard. I called Ignatio.
“It failed. Again,” I said as soon as he picked up the call.
He grunted. “I heard. He was badly injured though. I don't know what went wrong."
I pressed the phone firmly against my ear. “He knows I'm trying to kill him, Ignatio. And I have three days before he says the truth. I need him gone before then.”
“I’ll take care of it,” he said.
“Ignatio, I need you to really take care of it this time. No more mistakes.”
“Yes.”
He hung up.
“Fuck!” I yelled. It was Evelyn Moon all over again. She was responsible for all my sufferings. And she was back in the city, causing more chaos.
I needed to find Michael. We had not seen each other for a while. I knew he was avoiding me. Maybe Evelyn had told him the truth, that I worked with Xavier to kidnap her and perhaps, he hated me now. I laughed. I didn’t need his love, all I needed was his money.
I looked through the window and my eyes rested on the new Rolls Royce that had accompanied me to the apartment. I had insisted I wanted the car and it had been left as mine. The pictures I had taken in them had sent my fake friends crying and begging for a road trip. I was not going to see them until the day of the wedding. They didn’t deserve to spend my money with me.
My exit from Greywood Industries was quiet for a while and when questions began to pop up, the company mentioned that I was on a long sabbatical leave since I was getting married to the CEO. They didn’t mention that Alpha Raymond fired me in his office after telling me how disappointed he was in me. So I was able to return with my head held high.
“Welcome, Ms Blackwood,” the floor secretary greeted me. “Are you back now?”
I shook my head. “Absolutley not. I’m still enjoying my long sabbatical leave.” I chuckled.
She looked distressed suddenly. “What is the matter?” I asked. “Do you have something to tell me?”
She leaned closer. “There are some whispers within the company, ma’am.”
I raised my brow. “Whispers about what?”
“You. They are saying you aren’t on leave. Instead you got fired by Alpha Raymond.”
My chest tightened.
“What? Who is saying that?”
“They are just whispers I've been hearing, ma’am. Evelyn Moon was here yesterday, too.”
I pulled her into a cubicle. “Evelyn Moon was here yesterday?”
She nodded. “She came with a lawyer and they met with Alpha Michael and Alpha Raymond. I think there is a legal case.”
I could think of only one thing. Evelyn Moon was suing the company for her properties. She could make a lot of money and damage the image of Greywood Industries if she wished. But I had a solution. I knew what I could use to stop her.
“Where is Alpha Michael?” I asked, excitedly. I was about to save Greywood industries and perhaps, reclaim Alpha Raymond’s love.
“He should be in his office, ma’am.”
“Keep me posted if you hear anything,” I said to her and hurried off.
I arrived in front of his office and pushed the door open in excitement. “Michael! Michael -”
I stopped. Someone else was in his office. A woman. She smiled when she saw my face.
“It’s been a while, Rosaleen.”
I staggered to a stop. What was Evelyn doing in Michael’s office?
