Chapter 97
Hunter.
"This can't be true, right? This message cannot be real, right Nate?" Damon asked shakily with the envelope in his hands.
"Does it look like it's fake to you, stupid?" Aurora hissed at him and I rolled my eyes at both of them because they hadn't stopped bickering like children since I informed them of the message that arrived earlier today.
"This doesn't make any sense though. I mean, we all figured out that she was somebody important but I thought that the highest she would be was a Beta's kid. I would have never imagined that she was an Alpha's kid and I have been calling her by her name all this while without realizing she was royalty. What a sin!" Damon said dramatically and I just had to roll my eyes at him.
"For one Damon, can you not make everything seem like some kind of joke? This is a serious issue and it's not something that's going to be easy to deal with," Aurora snapped at him and I had to agree with her on this one.
Ever since I showed them the letter, I haven't said anything since I'm not even sure what I'm supposed to say about this.
The situation was still a surprise to me because it was very unexpected and I don't know what I'm supposed to do to handle it because I haven't even spoken about the person that was directly involved in this.
"What exactly are we going to do about this Hunter? The Blue Moon Pack Alpha is threatening to wage war against us if we do not return his daughter to him and his daughter in question didn't even inform us of her identity. You know very well that the last thing Uncle wanted was for us to ever get involved with that pack in particular, especially because of the history we have with them," Aurora said.
I sighed.
"I don't think the problem is whether or not we want to get involved with them because whether we like it or not, we harbored his daughter unknowingly so we're already involved with them. Now, what we have to do is decide on whether we return her to her family or insist on keeping her with us," Damon chimed in and Aurora scoffed.
"Can you be any less ridiculous, Damon? With everything that is going on around us right now, do you think our best bet is going into a war with a Northern pack that we both know is quite powerful when it comes to their military?" she questioned.
"So what exactly are you trying to suggest, Aurora? Are you saying that we should just accept sending her back home just because her father threatened us? Is that what you're trying to suggest?" Damon fired back.
"If you happen to have a better suggestion than that, then please do me a favor and spill it because I can't think of anything else besides returning her to where she belongs and saving ourselves from ruin," Aurora retorted.
I wanted to say something to respond to what she just said but I just couldn't think of anything on the spot because my mind was clouded with several thoughts and I just needed to take my time to think things through so that I don't rush into making a hasty decision.
"Are you being serious with me right now Aurora? Did you just open your mouth and suggest that we give her back to her family, just like that? I don't know if you remember this but this girl has mentioned times without number that she doesn't want to go back home and we don't have any idea why she even left home in the first place,"
"What if they were doing something bad to her at home and she decided to run away to save herself? Do you want us to be responsible for sending her back to a place that she doesn't want to be in?" Damon asked and Aurora sighed.
"Can you stop trying to make it seem like I'm some terrible person? We're just going to be sending her back home so stop trying to make it sound like I'm suggesting that we send her to her death. Do you know who is going to die if we don't send her back? Well, let me tell you that our innocent men who have no business dying for a stranger are going to get killed," she responded.
"You are unbelievable, Aurora. I thought you mentioned once that you like this girl but how can you be so willing to let go of somebody that you claim to like just because you want to protect yourself from something that isn't even confirmed yet? We haven't even spoken to Helene to ask for her opinion," Damon argued and I had honestly heard enough.
"Are you two going to keep arguing back and forth like this or are we going to be quiet and think of an actual solution? I don't know about you guys but I'm not about to allow some older Alpha to intimidate and tell me what to do and Aurora, you seem to be forgetting that the girl in question here is my mate, and releasing her just like that is an embarrassment to my name," I reminded her just in case she had forgotten.
I wasn't saying anything earlier because I needed time to gather my thoughts but it was very disappointing to hear Aurora suggest immediately that we return Helene.
I could understand that she was weighing the situation on ground and the consequences that could come with not letting Helene go but the fact that she accepted defeat so quickly without anything even happening was quite shameful on her part.
"I don't think you have the time to be concerned with the embarrassment that may come with whatever decision you make, Hunter. This is about the life of our people and you can't be jeopardizing people's lives for a woman that you're not even going to allow to stay here forever. Have you already forgotten how you wanted her to go back home? Well, now that we know her home, why not do the needful?" Aurora argued and I'm not surprised.
"Are you even listening to yourself, babe? Does anything you just said make sense to you at all? I'm not against protecting our people but I'm not going to use that as an excuse to act without thinking. Just because he demanded that we release his daughter to him does not mean that we should oblige immediately especially since we're not obligated to do much for him,"
"He's free to make demands but it's up to us to choose whether or not we want to do what he demands and releasing Helene to him is not an option except if Helene willingly agrees to leave on her own," I told her sternly.
"You have got to be kidding me, cousin! You don't even intend on having a relationship with this girl so why exactly are you trying to keep her here? Can't you just think of this as the best thing you can do for her which is separating her from you instead of her having to watch you enjoy a lovely relationship with your girlfriend?" she replied suggestively.
"I don't care if you guys think I'm being unreasonable and wicked but if I have to be the one thinking like a true leader, then so be it. I'm not going to allow any of our people to get sacrificed for somebody that is not a part of us and if you're not going to make the right decisions, then I might as well let Helene know the kind of problem she has brought into our lives so that she can walk out on her own," she snapped before turning her back and walking out of the office.
"What in the world is going on with your mate and why is she acting so paranoid?" I asked Damon, genuinely surprised by Aurora's strange reaction.
"That very question is also of concern to me because I have no clue what is going on with her. Ever since she came back from the meeting with the southern packs, she has been even more aggressive than usual, and the things that she says are just downright ridiculous. I'm even starting to worry that it might be a mental issue or something like that," he responded and I was so confused.
"Have you tried reading and mind to figure out what she could be thinking about?" I asked.
"Believe me, buddy, I have tried to get into her head that I can find a way to help her but she's not letting me. She has completely blocked me from reading her thoughts and even her emotions are getting difficult to understand," he responded and I sighed.
"You know what, now is certainly not the time for you to be concerned too much about what is going on with Aurora. I'm going to make sure to take care of my mate and you need to take care of yours as well. I know you two are not on speaking terms but please, go speak to her about her father's letter before Aurora does cause you know she's not going to be pretty with her words," Damon advised and he had a point.
The situation with Aurora was concerning but I needed to speak to Helene first because her situation seemed to be more important at the moment.
"I'm going to go speak to her now but make sure to keep me updated on whatever is going on with Aurora because her recent behavior is certainly concerning and I don't want anything happening to my cousin," I instructed and he nodded lightly before leaving as well and I also left and headed to Helene's room so that I could finally demand an explanation from her.
