Chapter 34 Green
ZORA
Marissa was silent on the entire way to her grandmother's.
True to her words, it was scary. Just a few meters away from the house, and I could already feel the bad aura coming from the house up ahead.
Marissa shuddered and rubbed her arms, "You should be careful, and even if you are scared, don't show it. It fuels her power."
I gave her a small smile and entered. The house smelled of portions and herbs with different books and leaves sprawled out everywhere.
"Who are you?!" A shrill voice echoed all around me.
"I was referred to you." I said calmly, "a friend said you could help with my predicament."
She laughed and suddenly appeared in front of me, "Those are things I love to hear. Rest assured, child, I can ease your worries. Now tell me, was it my granddaughter that sent you here?"
"No..." I answered, "She didn't, "
"Hmmm....." She turned on her heels and led me to a clearing within the dumpster of her house, "That explains why she chose to stay outside then."
She gestured for me to sit and proceeded to sit opposite me.
"So, what are you here for?"
"How can I get read of a Wildthread bond?"
She arched an eyebrow, genuinely surprised, "You can't."
"What about exercising it? Can that work?"
"No." She said coldly, "Did my granddaughter tell you coming here is not for free?"
"If you do what I want, it won't be an issue. So can you look for a solution for me?"
Her eyes rolled to the back of her head and were white for a few seconds, then all of a sudden she turned furious eyes at me, "Who are you?!" She asked in a eerie voice.
"Who am I?" I scoffed, "I'm Zora, and that's all there is to me."
"Who are you?" She asked again.
"I just told you who I am!" I countered.
Her lips curled up on a smile, "You don't know, do you?"
"Know what?"
"Who you are. I can see you are oblivious to a lot of things, and you can't see what's in front of you."
"What do you mean?" I sat straighter, "What are you talking about?"
"Your identity. Find out who you are, and maybe you might finally know your purpose."
"Why can't you tell me?"
"Are you with your mother?" She asked instead.
I started to say yes, and then I remembered the only family I knew disowned me and told me I was never one of them, so I shook my head negatively, "No,"
She nodded, "That explains a lot then."
"What do you know about me, please?" I questioned.
"That you were an abomination and abandoned by your mother. Sadly, I'm not allowed to tell you anything about your background."
My heart dropped.
How the hell am I supposed to find out about myself when I have nothing aside a stupid key whose lock I don't even know.
"You've heard about me, haven't you?"
I nodded.
"Including how powerful and horrible I am right?"
I nodded, Marissa pretty much painted her scary.
"Good, you are going to be worse except you use it right."
"Worse?" I snickered, "What are you saying, old woman?"
"You're powerful."
I laughed out loud. Staring at her in disbelief.
If I was that powerful, I'd have escaped from this prison of a pack long ago and not be here to listen to these ridiculous words.
"Are you insane?" I continued laughing, "Has old age finally gotten to you?"
She gave me a small smile, "Time will tell. I'm done with you. Now leave."
I opened my mouth to argue. She hasn't been helpful in any way.
I blinked for a second and found myself outside beside Marissa.
I glanced around in surprise. The house was gone.
What the heck just happened.
"Great, she's being dramatic again." Marissa rolled her eyes.
"How did that happen?"
"You're a stranger. Once you are asked to leave, the house kicks you out and changes the location." Marissa explained.
I gaped at her.
"You can't find her again unless she wants to be found, but was she able to help?"
I shook my head, "No," she kustsaid a whole lot more of jargon, gibberish. None of it makes sense."
"Want to talk about it? Maybe I can decipher her meaning?"
"Are you a witch too?"
"I don't have powers like my grandmother if that's what you mean. I'm more of a guardian. I used to teach smaller witches when my parents took us on vacations out of the pack."
I searched her eyes. It didn't seem like she was lying.
"There's nothing to say yet. It's something I need to figure out myself." I answered, a bit angry and shaken up from my encounter with her grandmother.
"I really hate when people are being vague! If she wasn't going to say anything abd be fucking tight-lipped? Why mention it all? To get me all riled and thinking about a family that left me to die?"
I noticed Marissa took an abrupt step back, her arms outstretched towards me. I was a predator, and she's my prey, trying to pacify me.
I frowned at her and scanned the surroundings, there was nothing, no one aside us.
"What now?" I asked.
"Calm down," she said quietly, "Please don't hurt me?"
My frown deepened, "What the hell are you on about now? What the fvck is wrong with you?"
Her lips trembled, and there was fear in her eyes as she regarded me, "I really don't want to die?"
"Why the heck would I kill you?" I snapped.
"What are you?" She queried, her voice small.
I narrowed my eyes, "What sort of question is that?"
"Your eyes, it's green now."
I froze.
She was right, it was a bright green.
I hadn't paid attention because I was angry.
Why are different things happening to me all in one day??
I fell to the floor, feeling overwhelmed.
Tears clouded my vision.
"I don't bite." I said to Marissa, "My eyes just changes color whenever I'm battling with a lot of emotions. It hasn't changed in a while, so I thought it's stopped."
She came closer and placed a hand on my arm, patting me softly, but she still had that wary look in her eyes.
"You really don't bite?" She asked.
"At this point, I don't know who I am anymore." I whispered, the tears falling freely.
"Hmmmm... that's weird.." She murmured, more to herself, "I've not seen or heard of an elder at your age not manifest their powers, but then, I've not actually met one. So what do I know?"
My spine stiffened, "A what now?"
