Chapter 19 Find out
ZORA
I rolled and tossed on my bed just like I have been doing all morning.
It's been five days since I got my wolf back and I found out Ryker is my second chance mate.
My wolf as usual has been her normal cranky self and even more pissed that I haven't accepted the bond yet.
The bulb in my room flickered and went off, throwing my room in darkness.
"Now, there is an actual reason to see him. Can we go now??"
I scoffed at her, it was nine p.m in the night, I'm very sure he would be asleep just like how he has been retiring to bed early since the day we found out we were mates.
Thinking about it, that day was the last time since l saw him. I wonder what he is up to now.
"Get your ass up, we both know you can't last another two minutes in here."
I exhaled and sat up, my heart thundering in my chest as I made my way out.
I'd barely made it five steps outside my room when I bumped into Wesley.
"What are you doing here??" He snapped irritatedly.
I frowned at him, "I need to see Ryker, the light in my room went off."
"Go back to your room, you can't be here." He replied in the same tone.
"I can't spend a second in that dark room," l argued.
He ran a hand through his hair in frustration, "You can't be here, you can't be in anywhere that's not in your room right now."
I narrowed my eyes at him, he looked tired, stressed, so out of it and tensed. His eyes was every where but on me, like something was going to pop out of nowhere to attack us if he allow himself to rest.
"What's going on?"
He focused back on me, "I need you to go back to your room right now and don't come out till daybreak."
"Tell me, is something going on? Where is Ryker? Is he okay? Are we under attack?"
"Stop asking questions and go back to your room I'll ask Agatha to bring you a lantern."
"You didn't answer any of my questions." I pointed out.
"Back to your room, Zora. I don't want to come back and meet you roaming the corridors. Trust me, it's for your benefit."
I rolled my eyes, like I would ever trust him and his Alpha but I didnt say anything.
I gave him a curt nod and turned on my heels, towards my room, but went towards the front door instead. I'd rather take a stroll through the surroundings all night than go to my room.
"We should check on Ryker." Ivan whined.
"Then what happens next, you heard his beta."
"Yet you are outside."
"It's different."
She snorted in response and shut me off.
Ignoring her, I hummed under my breath, feeling satisfied as the cold air caressed my cheeks softly. I should try coming out often if not anything but to enjoy moment like these.
A low growl nearby drew me out of my reverie, goosebumps rose on my skins instantly. The growl was soon followed by a cry.
Someone was getting attacked.
The cry came again.
It was a child.
I ran towards the noise, my heart in my throat.
If it was a wild animal, what would I do? My wolf is too weak to turn or fight, still, I couldn't not to anything.
I got to the place, panting and out of breath.
There was blood everywhere and an animal was standing in the middle of it.
My hands automatically clasped over my mouth, stifling down a scream.
No, this wasn't an animal, this was a monster!!
"Zora??" The monster called in a hoarse, gruff and off putting voice that sent cold chills down my spine.
How does this seven foot monster know my name??
He dropped on all four, its eyes went all dark as it stalked towards me, saliva dripping down its mouth. It's canine looked sharp and had to be about ten inches long.
I took a step back, a tiny scream escaping my lips.
I looked around again, there was no child or body anywhere. What if this was a trap? Was this the reason Wesley was agitated earlier?
Staying in the dark and dealing with my fear would have been a better option.
A step forward from it,
Two backward from me,
Sweet broke out on my skin, I can't die here, not without seeing my children one last time.
"Ryker!!" Wesley yelled, coming into view.
I narrowed my eyes at him. Couldn't he see Ryker wasn't here and I'm about to be eaten by a monster?
Nevertheless,
"Help!!" I called out, " It's going to kill me."
"What the heck are you doing out here, Zora??" Wesley snapped, "I asked you to stay in your room."
The monster walked towards me, eyes locked on mine as if waiting for the perfect moment to strike.
"Uh, Wesley? A little help fucking here??"
"Whatever you do, don't run. I won't be able to save you."
"So you just want me to stay still for this fucking monster to kill? No way in fucking hell am I doing that?"
The monster growled even louder and broke into a run, without thinking, I turned on my heels and ran.
I'm not about to be meal for a hungry animal.
"Ryker!!" Wesley yelled again, "You don't want to do that trust me"
"Ryker isn't here," I yelled back in anger, not looking back. I could feel the monster very near.
"Ryker Sébastien Esmond. Stop!!"
Time stood still, the monster stopped, so did I.
"Ryker?? That's Ryker??"
"Ryder." The monster growled, "I'm Ryder!!"
I turned to Wesley, "How's this Ryker?"
"He is the horror story parents say to their children that keeps them awake all night under their bed."
"How's that possible??"
"Every full moon, Ryker turns to his beast and stays in that form for a week."
I blinked at him, "tell me this is a joke."
"It's not." He said grimly, "and know the worst parts?? He doesn't remember any of it when he is back to himself."
"That's...."
"Stop talking like I'm not here." The monster snapped.
"Give us Ryker, maybe then, we'll acknowledge your presence." I replied
"Fiesty." The monster replied in his deep husky voice, "I like you, Now, I see why he likes you."
He turned to Wesley, "Get her out of here or the next throat I rip would be hers."
I gulped down in fear and followed Wesley wordlessly as he moved in the opposite direction, "He didn't mean that, right??"
Wesley shrugged in response, "You can stay behind to find out."
