Chapter 12 Hard way
ZORA
I don't know how long I sat there waiting, but I didn't move, didn't so much as twitch.
The anger and fury I felt pumped through my veins, as imagined every possible scenario with him ending up dead at my feet.
At some point, I could have sworn I heard a cat cry but it could also be my ears playing tricks on me because no one in their right senses would actually keep a cat as pet, especially a wolf.
My knuckles were already turning white at the intensity at which I gripped the knife. For a second, I thought he wasn't going to come back to his room then at long last I heard his foot steps as they came closer to the room. He stopped briefly at the entrance before turning the doorknob and walked in, holding a cat in the crook of his arm.
"You scared my cat" He said curtly, stroking the furs of the said cat. He didn't even look bothered to see me in his room.
"You have this odd smell on you." He said
The white and brown ragdoll cat stared at me with wide gold and green eyes gleaming in the dark.
Ryker turned on the light in his room and stared at me, still stroking the fur of the cat staring at me like she was ready to pounce on me and was just waiting for her master's order.
His gaze flickered to the knife in my hand then back to my face.
He walked to words his closet and dropped the cat on his dressing table, "What are you doing in my room? Is that knife supposed to scare me??"
I stood and pointed the knife at him, "Before I take your life, tell me how you killed my family."
He raised an eyebrow at me, barely concealing the anger in his eyes. "You killed my mother, I'm sure this will be easier for you."
I frowned at him. Why does he look so unbothered?
"Well?" He was standing in front of me now, guarding the knife to his neck, "Do it right and do it once, else I'll make sure your life is miserable."
I gripped the knife tighter, drawing blood from his neck then I released the knife. It fell with a clatter to the floor.
He tilted his head to the side, staring at me "Now that was a mistake."
Tears brimmed at the edge of my eyes. Why was it hard to kill him? I can't go back on my words.
I glanced at where the knife fell, he was still holding my hand, but my other hand was free. It's moments like this that make me grateful for being ambidexterous.
I sniffed in and fixed him a stare, slightly balancing my posture. It would be faster than he could blink.
I moved closer to him till I could feel his breath fanning my face and carressed his face with the hand he was holding.
"I'm sorry for your mother's loss." I whispered in a soft voice, letting my hand freely feel his stubble cheeks, then I brought my hand down slowly under his shirt.
His skin was warm against my fingers as I trailed them up, leaving goosebumps behind.
He took a sharp intake of breath, "What are you doing?"
"Shhh...." I brought my free forefinger over his mouth, silencing him. "I want to make it feel all better." I smiled reassuringly.
He closed his eyes and wrapped his hand around my waist, pulling me closer to him. My insides curled with disgust and fury. I hated his hands on my body.
"I'll make it better." I promised, "You won't feel pain anymore."
The right opportunity!
It happened so fast.
I reached down, grabbed the knife, and stabbed him.
There was blood on the floor and on my hand.
I stared at him, waiting for him to fall down. His eyes were still closed, and blood poured from the wound on his chest.
He opened his eyes and grinned at me, holding my gaze as he pulled the knife out of his chest. "You missed. Next time, aim at the heart, not directly below it."
"Trust me, I won't miss next time"
He smirked as if what I said was funny.
"I told you, you had only one shot at this, and you missed. Don't worry, I'll make sure there isn't a next time for you."
"Just kill me and get it over with.." I snapped.
"Where would the fun be in that? Besides, I couldn't find your friend and her children, neither was your miserable boyfriend found."
I didn't know if I should be relieved or scared. He is still going to kill them if he found them.
"Please let me go. My work here is done. I couldn't save your mother, so you have no use for me here. Please let me go back to my family."
He wriggled his eyebrows, "And give you a chance at happiness? Who does that?"
"I promise to stay out of your life if you let me go. Please. For the sake of my family. Don't make me lose them, too."
"I lost my only family member thanks to you. Isn't it only fair if you lost yours too, meiga?"
"Please don't take this away from me. You took my life once, Shouldn't you feel remorseful and let me go??"
"You are asking the wrong question, meiga. Shouldn't you be asking about my plans for you now, after you've ruined everything and your family are suscipiously missing?"
My throat went dry instantly. What kind of sick game is this bastard up to now.
"This bastard here," He grinned widely, "Has plans to break you, make you miserable, make you do everything against your morals until everyone you hold dear, dies and I finally kill you. In summary, I'm going to make you suffer till you lose your will to live and beg me to kill you. Of course, all these can be avoided if you tell me where to find them."
"You are sick in the head if you think I would tell you if I knew. I'm actually grateful you rejected the bond. I wonder how the former Luna managed to bear this without going crazy. You are a piece of trash."
"Alright." He shrugged, "The hard way it is."
