Chapter 279: 159| Favorite Part.

VIOLET

“Indie? Mason?” Axel called in shock, and what followed was laughter.

Both of them jumped apart immediately, embarrassment written all over their faces. The next second, Axel was already jogging toward them, and I followed.

“Now explain what is happening,” he muttered, his gaze darting between the two of them.

“Uhm...” Indie scratched the back of her neck, her cheeks red with embarrassment. They both looked like they had been caught cheating by their partners. While no one would crucify them for making out, it was quite shocking to see that they were into each other. We all thought they were just really close. We should have known there was more to it.

Axel folded his arms across his chest. “I am waiting. Mason, I thought you were going to wait for your mate. What happened?”

“I didn’t lie about that,” Mason said, his voice low.

“But here you are—” Axel trailed off, his eyes widening with realization.

“You are mates!” I gasped in shock, throwing my palm over my mouth.

Mason nodded slowly, while Indie kept looking everywhere except in our direction.

Axel let out a full-blown laugh as he continued flicking his gaze between them.

“What’s funny?” Indie shot at him, finally looking his way.

“I don’t know,” he admitted, his arms going akimbo. “I just wasn’t expecting this. When did you find out?”

“The night of my birthday,” Mason replied.

“So you’ve known you’ve been mates for a whole ass week now and you didn’t inform me?” A frown suddenly formed on his face.

“Because we knew you were going to react this way. Now stop being annoying,” she rolled her eyes at him.

I moved closer, leaning in to hug Indie. “Congratulations, girl. I am so happy for you.”

She tightened her arms around me. “Thank you, V. I am also so glad that you are finally back with the love of your life, even though he’s such a prick.”

“Who did you just call a prick?” Axel groaned, and the next thing he was doing was tickling her while she giggled uncontrollably.

The both of them were really siblings, always annoying and finding each other’s trouble. I was just glad that they were able to get past Indie’s mistake. She had been a clueless girl who was manipulated.

After we left Indie and Mason, Axel said he wanted to show me something and led me into the woods.

“I want to run with Orion,” Onyx suddenly said in my head.

“Axel...” I called, flicking my gaze at him. “Onyx said—”

“I know. Orion just told me now,” he interrupted.

A wide smile formed on my face. “So what do we do?”

He lunged forward, shifting in the process. Orion’s voice wafted through my head: “Catch me if you can, Onyx.”

Without hesitation, Onyx shifted into her form, chasing after Orion while they had the time of their lives.

“They didn’t even wait for us to agree to it,” Axel’s voice poured into my mind.

“They have missed each other that much,” I replied.

“I have missed you much more, baby,” he said.

“Not as much as I missed them, though,” Orion howled. “And Violet, thank you for coming back to us. Thank you for forgiving my dick human.”

“Who is a dick?” Axel groaned.

“Who else?” Orion teased.

“Oh, it’s a good thing that we are one, dickhead!” Axel retorted.

Listening to their banter brought so much joy to my chest. Orion and Onyx continued running around the woods, playing tirelessly. It took a lot of persuasion before they finally agreed to give us back control because Axel said he wanted to take me somewhere.

After we had put our clothes back on, he led me along a path, and I wondered where he was taking me until we finally arrived at a lake.

My eyes widened. “This is where you wanted me to see?”

“We don’t have to be a boring King and Queen. We could always come here to do what we both enjoy the most,” he said, wrapping his arm around me and pulling me even closer. “I promise to do everything in my power to make you happy, Violet.”

He kissed my forehead. “You are my everything. The air I breathe. The blood running through my veins. You see? I could never do without you.”

“Oh, Axel...” I wrapped my arms around his neck, looking into his eyes as I decided to play with him. “You know I can do without you.”

“You wish!” A mischievous smile formed on his lips and before I could process anything, he was already pushing me into the lake.

I was fast enough to grab his shirt and pull him down with me.

He emerged from the water, shaking it off his hair. “That was not how it was supposed to go.”

“What did they say about paying evil for evil?” I smirked.

“Come here,” he tried to reach for me, but I quickly splashed water over his face.

“What the—” he laughed, before splashing water at me as well. We continued like that, laughing uncontrollably while we enjoyed each other’s company.

After a while, he forcefully took me into his arms, making me stop the water fight. I naturally wrapped my arms around him.

As we looked into each other’s eyes, our throats burst out with laughter.

That’s my best friend and lover for life. We both knew without a doubt there was nothing that could ever come between us. Our relationship had faced many obstacles and we had triumphed through it all.

“You are my favourite part of every day, Violet Southerthon,” he whispered as he leaned in to kiss me.

“And you complete me, Axel Northwood,” I breathed into his mouth.

THE END.
