Chapter 275: The Alpha King's Rejected Mate

Orian’s pov

Nexus was speechless by the time I finished talking and we both sat, basking in silence while staring into space as he tried to process what I just shared. I too was trying to process it all over again having relived the trauma in my head as I shared the story.

Because of what I had to give up, I had to either do away with Amara or continue to fall deeper for her at the expense of myself knowing it would only end in my death. It had already become my doom the moment I met her and began to have feelings for her.

The curse was already eating me up when I tended to her out of care and not pretense. And from my wounds not healing to the old ones bleeding, it could progress into sickness and eventually my death. I knew it'd end in my painful untimely death but how it would happen was uncertain.

"The seer that did the ritual, is he alive?" Nexus cleared his throat rubbing his palms together, "Is he?"

"He died a week after we took the oath."

"I see." Nexus let out a dry laugh displaying his discomfort, "What punishment have the other leaders decided to mete out on you?"

"It hasn't been revealed yet, but I know it would be hard to survive knowing my already derailing state."

"Is there a way you can avoid their punishment?" He asked looking at me with hope glistening in his gaze, "Appease them, bribe them, anything?"

"It's an oath Nexus, only the deaths of two or all of us would stop Anyone who broke the oath from suffering the punishment agreed on."

"But no deaths would stop the second one? you dying slowly because of your relationship with Amara."

"I won't."

"Shit." He groaned falling back against the chair like he was the one with my problem. This is why I didn't want to share it knowing how worried he would be, "Why is your life like this? It's unfair."

"Tell me about it."

"After everything you have gone through, this is the one thing you are entitled to and now you can't have it because of some balding impotent moron!"

I laughed at his insult and looked up at the ceilings as if an answer to my predicament would be written up there, "I am scared, I haven't been this afraid in a while."

"No need to be scared." He sat back up slapping his palms against his knees before standing up, "True love's kiss!"

"What?!" I raised my brows in confusion.

"A kiss woke up the sleeping beauty! A kiss woke snow white, I don't know who the heck goes around kissing dead princesses in the woods but it worked. True love's kiss solves everything."

"We are not in a fairy tale." I snorted leaning back against my seat, would it really work?

"Technically we are! We are not humans, we have magic and you can fly. True love's kiss is what you need. It will work. Just kiss Amara and boom, you are healed. It worked for a corpse, it will work for a brainless idiot that gave up his mate and love life."

"Don't insult me."

"Oh, you are lucky I am not sending you to the grave before this stupid blood oath curse takes you there, how dare you give up your mate?!"

"I didn't think she would want me."

"I didn't think she would want me." He mimicked me before rubbing his palms over his face in exasperation, "You have got to let her know."

"She can't know Nexus." I turned to him with panic rising in my voice, "She would be upset, cry, get worried, and try to find solutions to my stupidity."

"She has to know!"

"Know what?" We both turned at the sound, her voice cascading through me washing a sense of ease over my being.

"Hi, Amara." Nexus smiled at her.

And I just stood there taking in her appearance, admiring the long teal-colored gown she had on, her hair was pulled up in a bun and her lips coated in red lipstick. She had her hands behind her as if hiding something and then I remembered that she had gone out with Cyrus but I didn't let my insecurities show, I eased a smile.

"Hey, Nexus." She nodded quietly at him before turning her attention back to me, "Hey." She greeted and I opened my arms for her to walk into which she did and I could see what she desperately tried to hide behind her when she leaned against me accepting my warmth, "It was supposed to be a surprise."

"It still is." I wrapped my arms around her waist, the sparks lighted up at the contact making her press herself against me with a sigh and I brushed my lips against her hair inhaling her scent, "I missed you lunny svet."

"I missed you more grump." She rubbed her nose in my shirt inhaling my scent and relief washed through me knowing she wouldn't smell the blood because the wounds had healed for now.

"This is so heartbreaking to watch!" Nexus wailed falling against the chair, "Oh heavens, why?!" He cried out hunching over with sniffs.

"Why are you sad Nexus?" Amara turned to him with a worried glance, "Is anything the matter?"

"Orian d-"

"He got dumped." I answered before he could spill my secret, "Derzhat' zakrytym." Keep shut! I growled at him with a glare.

"What did you tell him?" She looked up at me with those bright green eyes, "You sounded angry."

"It's nothing princess, Nexus was just leaving." I released her from my hold and walked up to Nexus, "Come on, get out." I grabbed his arm and began to pull him out while he struggled against me and we argued in Russian much to Amara's confusion.

"Bye Amara." He screamed in her direction as I pushed him out and slammed the door shut with a sigh.
