Chapter 3
At dawn, my supervisor told me the project was dead and I should get home.
Though I hadn’t expected Lincoln to be this cold-blooded, whatever.
I didn’t want any connection to them. I whipped out my phone, hit up a lawyer for divorce papers, just waiting for his signature to make it official
But as I wheeled my suitcase out of the hotel, Vivian came from nowhere and blocked my path.
“We need to talk, Miss Carter.”
When I ignored her and kept walking, Vivian waved a file folder. “I think you’ll need this.”
[let out a frustrated breath, and followed Vivian to a coffee shop.
she shoved a coffee at me, then started twisting the ring on her finger.
Miss Carter, look at you-flew all this way just to get booted at the first meeting. When something isn’t yours, fighting for it is pointless.”
You know that?”
gave her this ice-cold smile: “What gives a homewrecker like you the right to lecture me?”
She slipped off her ring and shoved it at me: “Take a good look at this.”
incoln had the matching men’s version of this ring, and he never took the damn thing off.
My nails dug into my palms, but I kept my face blank: “So what? Lincoln and I have a marriage certificate. We’re the actual married couple.”
haking her head, Vivian laughed:
Wrong. You can divorce a marriage, but having kids? That creates a tight, happy family.”
He lied to you about being childfree but had me pop out babies because he doesn’t want to admit you’re his real wife. Because he’s been in love with ne from day one.”
No wonder Lincoln, coming from all that family drama, would hate children.
used to think it was psychological damage and tried to heal him with love, but never got anywhere.
‘urns out what he’d hated all along was pathetic, worthless me.
My nose burned and my eyes got red, but I still fought back.
So that’s your excuse for wrecking someone’s marriage? You’re proud of having bastard children?”
he sipped her coffee looking all superior: “No, they’re not bastards-they’re Hayes Group heirs.”
You might’ve schemed your way into this rich family, but you can’t change the trash in your blood. How could Lincoln possibly let you birth Hayes Group heirs? Stop fooling yourself.”
‘He and I are perfect together-we’re soulmates!”
I knew illegitimate kids had inheritance rights, but never thought Lincoln would guard against me enough to make Vivian’s kids heirs this early.
Did he see all my genuine devotion as just gold-digging?
Vivian watched my crushed expression with pure evil joy, slapping the file folder on the table before leaving.
“I’m young and hot, plus I gave him kids. You saw Lincoln’s attitude yourself.”
“Even if you don’t divorce him, you won’t get shit from the Hayes family. No point fighting me, right?”
1 blinked back tears and swallowed the bitter pain in my chest before opening the folder.
Inside were two copies of divorce papers-already signed with Lincoln’s name.
Lincoln once said he’d never leave me. Even when I caught him cheating, he hadn’t brought up divorce.
Though I had no clue how Vivian got him to sign these papers, I actually needed them.
But seeing the clauses that left me with absolutely nothing, I shook with rage.
What gave a homewrecker like Vivian the right to do this to me?!
