Chapter 146 146
"Yes, they're so cute! It looks like they're having an argument."
I bit my lower lip and adjusted my eyeglasses when I heard someone gossiping about us. I discreetly looked at them. They were two women looking in our direction. I just looked away and drank my Coke.
"You done?" Luca asked and tapped his fingers on the table. His expression is still unreadable. I'm dying to know what he's thinking right now.
"Yes," I answered curtly.
"Let's go to the grocery store. We'll buy food, to stock the fridge," he just said.
"You can buy by yourself. Do I need to go with you?" I asked, frowning.
"Of course, Crescent. I'm the one who cooked, you know. All you have to do is accompany me to the grocery store, and you can't even do that," he said grumpily.
My frown deepened. "Who told you to cook? I can do that too."
"Wow, thank you. Thank you so much, Crescent," he said
full of sarcasm.
"Why are you being sarcastic? You're the one who kidnapped me and brought me to your house!"
I didn't realize my voice had gotten louder; people near us looked at us. I just blinked and adjusted my glasses when I felt my face get hot from embarrassment.
"Damn it." Luca stood up and took his wallet from his pocket, then gave it to me. "I'm just going to the restroom. Wait for me here. We still have to go grocery shopping," he just said and immediately turned his back on me and left.
I just scoffed and took his wallet. I'll just wait for him here. What else can I do anyway? He already gave me his wallet. Besides, he always gets his way because his kind is stubborn.
He's the one who's confusing me. He's always acting like he's annoyed every time I cling to him, but now he's the one who's always coming close to me. Is he doing this because he feels guilty about what he did last night?
I just shook my head and patiently waited for him. I looked at my phone. Several minutes had passed, why isn't Luca here yet? Where did he go?
I just stood up and went out of the fast-food place to look for him. I first went to the nearby restroom because he might be there. I was about to go to the restroom, but I was stunned when I looked at a bakery. Luca was there... with Sasha.
He was smiling with her; it seems like he's really enjoying his time with her, it seems like he forgot that I'm here at the mall with him... He did it again... I just smiled bitterly and bit my lower lip. I don't even have the right to get jealous. He made it clear to me that Sasha is the one he loves; he repeatedly rubbed it in my face. I'm the one who wants to stay by his side... I have no one else to blame but myself.
I immediately turned my back on them, but I just gasped when my face hit something hard. My glasses were dislodged from the impact. But I flinched when I felt someone hold my glasses to fix them. I just blinked and looked at the person in front of me.
"Hey, Crescent." A familiar voice filled my ears.
My mouth fell open when I saw him. "A-Aiden?"
He smiled at me and gently rubbed my hair. "How are you?"
I smiled at him too and adjusted my eyeglasses. "I'm fine. How about you? How have you been?"
"Well, I'm good, but I was sad when I found out you already quit your job. You didn't even inform me about it. You broke my heart, Miss."
I just smiled at him and scratched the back of my neck. "I'm sorry, Aiden. It's just... um--"
"Hey, I'm just kidding... You really haven't changed." He laughed slightly.
Aiden and I met last year. I fainted at work and had to be taken to the hospital because I was overworked. He was the doctor who looked at me back then, and he's really kind. I don't always see or talk to him, but he's one of the people I can say I'm close to besides Ivana.
I don't know why he became my friend. It's not obvious in him to have an interest in befriending me. He's handsome and a doctor. I'm sure he has a lot of friends.
"Why did you suddenly quit working there?" he asked.
We already started walking. I discreetly looked at Luca and Sasha, who were still talking, before we completely got farther away. I just shook my head and looked at Aiden; he's just staring at me, waiting for my answer.
"Um... I'm planning to take a rest and have a vacation since my two siblings have already graduated and have jobs. I just want to rest for a while," I just said and smiled slightly at him.
Aiden nodded and massaged the back of his neck. "So, are you able to rest?"
I bit my lower lip and nodded. "Yup."
Aiden smiled at me and nodded. "That's good to hear. You deserve to take a rest."
"Thanks," I just said and adjusted my glasses again.
"By the way, do you have a boyfriend, Crescent?" he asked, then looked away.
I paused for a moment before I could answer. "N-No, why do you ask?"
Aiden just smiled at me and put his hand inside his pocket. "I see, you're still as dense as ever," he whispered, which I didn't quite hear.
"Hmm?" I just asked.
"Nothing... by the way, do you have anywhere else to go?"
I just shook my head and smiled faintly. "I'm going home now. I just came here to eat."
"Is that so? In that case, I'll take you home," he said and took his car key from his pocket.
"Oh, no need. I'll just commute. I might bother you," I said, shaking my head.
"No, it's alright. I really want to take you home," Aiden said immediately.
"Huh?" was all I could ask.
Aiden tilted his head and touched the back of his neck. "I mean... It's not a bother for me; I can take you home."
"Are you sure?" I asked again to make sure.
He smiled at me and nodded... I don't know why he seems a little excited for some reason.
"So, shall we go?" he asked.
I just nodded and smiled. He paused for a moment while looking at me, but he just cleared his throat and took a deep breath, as if calming himself. He just looked away from me and put his arm around my shoulder. I just adjusted my glasses and let him. He often does that whenever we see each other.
We were about to walk out of the mall, but I was stunned when I felt someone hold my arm and pull me away from Aiden... A familiar scent filled my nose; I immediately knew who it was.
"L-Luca..." I just said.
Luca hid me behind his back and glared at Aiden. His glare is deadly and kind of scary. It seems like he wants to kill Aiden with his deadly stare... Aiden, on the other hand, glared back at him, seemingly unfazed by Luca's terrifying stare.
"What's your problem, dude?" Aiden asked and clenched his fist.
"I should be the one to ask you that... What the fuck do you think you're doing?" Luca asked in a cold tone; I almost shivered. "Who do you think you are touching, asshole?"
