Chapter 321
Leon didn't give a damn about what people thought. He headed straight to the Angel City Convention Center, where the investment conference was being set up. He needed to oversee the setup and verification process.
The staff on site were all from the Angel City government, and some of them knew who Leon really was.
When they saw Leon, they immediately perked up.
"Mr. Corleone, we've got nearly a hundred companies applying to attend this conference, and the number is still growing. Take a look at the list."
Leon glanced at the list and saw that Angel City planned to invest in several tech projects, with the government offering substantial subsidies.
"Blackstone University and other universities have sent reps to discuss these tech projects with you."
"It'd be best if we could make decisions directly. If foreign universities get these projects, we'll be at a significant disadvantage."
Leon thought for a moment and said, "No problem. If these schools are willing to work with us, we can give them the opportunity."
These projects promised huge benefits, so many universities were eager to seize the chance.
Leon naturally wanted to give this opportunity to Mythara's universities, which would benefit the country.
Then he asked, "Do you know who the representative from Blackstone University is?"
A staff member replied, "It's a young woman named Serena. She doesn't hold a high position, but we checked with Blackstone University's vice president, who confirmed that Serena has the authority to represent the university, so we agreed."
Leon chuckled, understanding the vice president's intentions. He was likely using Serena's charm to secure the project, something Serena excelled at, or she wouldn't have been chosen as Blackstone University's representative.
At that moment, several university reps arrived. They were all young, talented, and held high positions.
Among them, Serena stood out. Although her rise to representative wasn't exactly honorable, the others were unaware of her past actions. She had won the favor of several male reps and received business cards, making her quite pleased with herself.
Just then, she received some news.
Leon had indeed been fired by the Eagle Group, which put Serena in a great mood.
Though it looked like it might rain outside, Serena felt the weather was perfect.
"Leon, this is just the beginning. You'll suffer even more in the future. I'll make sure you end up as a homeless man, hahaha."
Thinking of this, Serena laughed out loud.
"Ms. Carroll, what's making you so happy today?" several curious representatives asked.
"Oh, it's nothing. Just a guy who used to pursue me. After I rejected him, he badmouthed me everywhere. Now he's finally getting his comeuppance. I just heard about it, so I'm very happy," Serena lied.
"Oh my, what a despicable guy. He deserved it."
"Ms. Carroll, this calls for a celebration. How about we have dinner together tonight?"
The male representatives eagerly suggested.
Serena smiled, "Sure, after we're done here today, dinner's on me."
The male representatives laughed and became more vigilant, seeing each other as rivals.
At that moment, a staff member came out.
The representatives immediately perked up and asked, "Sir, can we go in now?"
"Yes, the consultant has arrived. He said if you're interested in the project, you can talk to him, but whether you get the project depends on your abilities."
"Also, you must keep the consultant's identity confidential. You'll need to sign a non-disclosure agreement. If anyone leaks the secret, they'll go to jail."
The staff member spoke sternly.
"Understood. We know what to do."
The representatives signed the agreement, and Serena smiled at the staff member, "Sir, who is this consultant? Why does he have the authority to handle this alone?"
"I'll tell you quietly, but don't tell anyone else. I've heard this consultant is a big shot, which is why he can oversee this conference. And he's very young, only in his twenties," the staff member said with a smile.
Hearing this, Serena's eyes lit up, thinking her chance had come.
She decided she must pursue this consultant, and if she could get involved with him, even better.
After all, a consultant in his twenties with such power must have a high status.
If she could become his lover, she would gain many benefits.
Soon, they arrived at the conference room.
Serena calmed herself and waited patiently.
After about five minutes, someone opened the conference room door, and a group of staff members led a young man inside.
The young man was dressed simply but exuded confidence.
Serena immediately perked up. Although she couldn't see his face clearly, his demeanor told her this must be the consultant.
At the same time, she felt a strange familiarity, as if she had seen him somewhere before.
As the school representatives stood up to greet the consultant, he suddenly stopped and spoke to the staff before turning to leave.
"What's going on?"
The representatives were puzzled, not understanding why the consultant left so abruptly.
A staff member then addressed the representatives, "The consultant just told me he smelled something foul here. Someone among you is unclean and unworthy of competing. Once that person is removed, you can discuss the project with him."
With that, the staff member left.
Serena quickly followed, handing over her business card.
"Sir, please wait. I'm Serena from Blackstone University. Even if the consultant doesn't want to see others, surely he would see me?"
The staff member frowned, "Didn't you hear what I said? The consultant said someone here smells bad. That person must be removed, or he won't meet with you. Now, all of you, leave."
Soon, the staff member escorted the representatives out.
No one dared to complain, realizing the consultant must be very influential.
After a while, they were called back in.
As they wondered what was happening, the consultant re-entered.
Serena was about to approach him when she saw his face and was utterly shocked.
"It's you? Leon?" Serena looked horrified, her expression exaggerated.
Leon smiled coldly, "Surprised, Serena? I'm here to inform you that Blackstone University is no longer considered for this project. You're out!"
"No, this can't be! I don't believe it." Serena was stunned, then broke down, screaming.
She couldn't accept that the Leon she always looked down on was the key government consultant.
But whether she accepted it or not, it was the truth. Serena was escorted out by the staff.
The other university representatives were equally shocked, and the news quickly spread, causing a sensation in Angel City.
More shocking news followed: Leon was the legendary president of the Eagle Group and a Marine Corps instructor!
This revelation left everyone in Angel City in disbelief.
Caitlin's family, sitting at home, also received the news. They were equally stunned, except for Lucy, who remained calm, having known the truth all along.
As Caitlin sat in shock, unsure what to say, Leon walked in.
"Leon!" Caitlin exclaimed, "Are the rumors true? Are you Mr. Corleone? Are you also a Marine Corps instructor?"
"Yes, Caitlin. I didn't tell you the truth before because I didn't want to involve you. But now I've changed my mind, so I'm telling you. Yes, I'm Mr. Corleone, the one who proposed to you!"
Leon smiled warmly.
Caitlin couldn't hold back her tears. At that moment, all her previous doubts were answered. She finally understood why the Eagle Group president had always helped her—because he was Leon.
"Caitlin, I'm sorry for all the fear and pain you endured with me. From now on, we'll live happily, and no one will hurt you again. By the way, I have plane tickets."
Leon pulled out two tickets, smiling, "These are tickets to an island. The scenery is beautiful. Would you like to go on vacation with me, my dear?"
"I would love to," Caitlin said, tears in her eyes, nodding.
"Then let's go."
Leon took Caitlin's hand and led her outside.
From then on, they lived happily ever after.
