Chapter 66: I Apologize

CALEB’S POV

It was dark, utter darkness consumed me, but I could feel my unconscious waking up, I could hear the continuous beeping sound, it was annoying, with the throbbing pain in head and my whole body I found it frustrating, but the question loomed over my mind.

Where was I?

I was trying to recall where I was last time, what is today and did something happen? I groaned, Kaden laid lazily, he was sleeping, at times like that he was of no use, I muttered inwardly when I heard the cautious sound of Ethan from distance.

‘Why the hell is he calling me from distance, he should come close’ I thought grumpily.

‘Shall I call doctor?’ this was Noah’s voice, it sounds scared, as if he fears losing me. Wait! Did something happen to me? Why is he asking to call doctor.

‘Yeah, go and call him, although he says that he is out of danger, I am not sure if there are still traces of magic in his blood.’ Ethan’s concerned voice echoed in my ear, magic? It clicked to me; this word knocked my memory.

‘How can you say that? Luna used all her strength to save him’ Noah, as his usual came in support of Lilith, but why does he say she used all her strength? I groaned again, my mind was foggy and nothing seemed to make complete sense.

‘Wake the hell up Kaden,” I yelled at the beast inside me, but he doesn’t seem to get affected, I was frustrated, but than I felt a sharp thing piercing in me, a burning liquid mixed in my blood, and I felt the pain in my body getting sooth, feeling light, was it any magic? That the body pain swiftly begins to subside.

‘He is in pain because of the magic’s side effects, but other than that there is nothing to worry, he is completely fine. He’ll wake up soon’ they again mentioned magic, and it sparked to me, all the memory of the day played like a movie in front of my eyes in fast pace, Uncle Victor was killed by witches, than they attacked me and I was dying, almost near to death when my body was covered by Lilith, and my heart begin racing, does it mean she took away the final magic blow of my death on her.

The realization was painful and heart shattering, and my eyes snapped open, the thought of losing Lilith threw me to the conscious and I found myself surrounded by Ethan, Noah and Doctor Peter.

‘You opened your eyes’ Ethan was beaming like a small kid, Noah hugged me tightly.

‘We were so scared of losing you’ tears rolling down on his cheeks.

‘Where is Lilith?’ ignoring their chanting for now, I asked about my mate, hoping to hear about her being safe, but their was silence, they all looked at me and averted their gaze.

‘Where is she? What happened to her?’ my voice raised, when Noah placed his hand on my shoulder and pushed me down.

‘Relax, you are still recovering.’ I yanked his hand.

‘Tell me about Lilith, I remember she came to shield be from witches than what happened?’ they exchanged glances and I rolled my eyes in annoyance.

‘Ethan, don’t make me repeat again,” I warned him and he nodded his head, understanding that I am losing my patience and it won’t be good for any of them.

‘She protected you and took the magic on herself, but surprisingly it did not affect her, even that witch was shocked as well, after she healed you, it was very awkward way she used but after she was done, she collapsed over you and we brought you both here at hospital.’

‘Than?’ I asked impatiently, I want to hear if she is alive or not, I can listen to details later, but he doesn’t seem convinced to do so.

‘Doctor Peter, checked you both and said that you two are fine, just having side effects of magic and that would be worn off soon.’ I nodded.

‘So, where is she?’ Ethan sighed and shook his head.

‘It’s been three days since the incident, you had showed improvement and finally opened your eyes today, but about her, she doesn’t seem good to me.’ Noah spoke up, his voice quivering.

‘How could this be? Doctor Peter said we both are fine, than how come she has not opened her eyes or showed any improvement? My eyes sharpening, I was feeling better and sat up resting my back with the support of pillow.

‘She healed you, taking all the magic in her.’ Noah complained, his eyes puffy and corners red.

I sighed, it turns out we had unlocked her another ability that day and it seems too strong, but why does her body has to give up after using the ability and go on a danger condition.

‘Where is she?’ I repeated my question, but it means differently this time, I was asking about the room she was kept in for observation.

‘Next to yours’ Ethan informed, I removed the quilt and stood up.

‘Where are you going? Ethan placed his hand on my arm, stopping me from moving, his voice held fear and concern. I patted him on the shoulder.

‘I am fine, in fact feeling better. Don’t worry about me and go back home. You guys haven’t showered these days, go and freshen up, meanwhile I look to your Luna’ I scanned their wrinkled dresses and messy hair, their skin dull and dry, they have messed up themselves after me and my mate.

‘No, we are fine. We aren’t going anywhere leaving you and Luna alone. What if those bitches will come back’ Noah refused and I exhaled a frustrating sigh.

‘It is first time I was injured and laid in the hospital bed, and you both have learned to disobey me in this time!’ my voice sharp and stern, I was scolding them on the stubbornness, they lowered their eyes instantly and hesitated, but Noah managed to speak even after that.

‘Sorry Alpha, we don’t mean to disobey you, but we don’t want to lose you nor have courage to see you in pain and that misery again. You want to scold us, beat us, punish us, whatever you want to do with us, we won’t object, but we aren’t leaving your and her side, until we are assured of you guys health by doctors and we had sort out a way to stop witches getting into our pack uncalled.’ I shook my head, I know them very well, they very rarely act stubborn, but when they do, they don’t even listen to me.

‘Your mates would be waiting for you’ I reminded them of woman in their life.

‘They understand what our priority is right now, they have no issues, even though they were insisting on coming and staying here as well, but we sent them back’ Ethan shared the thoughts of their mates, and I ran the hand in my ruffled hair, I’ve got too protective and possessive partners.

‘Fine, than follow me,” I motioned them to move and they nodded.

We all stopped outside the room where Lilith was admitted, I opened the door and entered, she was laying unconscious on the bed, machine connected to her body, keeping track of her heartbeat.

‘Doctor said, she has used all her energy to save you, and it might have exhausted her to beyond her limit, she may take more days to show any response. They are giving her medicine through IV that increases her energy and strength.’ Ethan updated me on the current condition of my mate, I quietly stepped forward, getting close to her bed.

Her face had turned yellow; lips pale and dry. Her beautiful eyes were closed, shattering my heart. She is my mate, but after that incident she has become my savior too. I am in debt to her for my life.

I bit my lower lip, recalling the words I spoke to her on her first day in this pack, her eyes were quietly pleading from me to not distant her from me, but I was rude, too much taken away by my fear, only if I had cherished those moments with her.

Tears welled up in my eyes, and I took her hand in mine, her hand weighed nothing.

‘I am sorry for everything; every time I hurt you and made you cry, I apologize to you.’ I planted a soft kiss on the back of her hand.

‘I feared that what would happen to you if you lost me in this battle of survival against rogues, I didn’t want you to end up like my mom, tearing up for the loss of your mate, but I never thought for once that it could be other way around.’ I paused and set her hair, tucking it behind her ear.

‘Wake up, I want to cherish the moment we have together, please forgive me and give me one chance. I will compensate you for every cry, every pain’ I whispered to her, plastering a lingering kiss on her forehead, tears fell from my eyes as I retreated and stared at her face, they fell on her cheeks and her eyelids trembled.

‘Lilith?’ I cupped her cheek calling out to her softly and passionately.

She opened her eyes slowly, our eyes met and got locked, I could feel the tide of emotions hitting me right now.
