Victor didn't expect Liam to be so weak and quickly pulled him back. Liam was placed on the bed and sat there steadily, staring at Victor with a guilty and fearful expression in his eyes.
"Who were you talking to on the phone just now?" Victor asked, bowing his head.
Liam was stunned for a moment and thought to himself, 'He heard it? No, he definitely didn't hear it, otherwise he wouldn't ask like that.'
Liam immediately shook his head and said, "I didn't say anything. Uncle Victor, what are you talking about?"
"Liam, my mom is already asleep. Don't pretend to be innocent in front of me," Victor reminded him with a meaningful tone. His sexy and lazy voice was filled with charm and warning.
With his head lowered, Liam innocently and confusedly asked, "Uncle Victor, are you angry because I bumped into you today? I'm sorry, I know I was wrong. You're so forgiving, so please forgive me."
Victor became interested in Liam, who despite his young age, was very good at lying. He asked, "You ar good at lying. Who taught you this?"
Liam blinked his eyes, looking confused and aggrieved.
No matter what Victor asked him, he refused to speak and just shook his head. If Victor made a slightly stern expression, Liam would start crying immediately.
Victor didn't know how to communicate with Liam, so he could only put him back on the bed. "Rest now. Tomorrow, I'll take you to find your mommy. You can answer me then."
After saying that, he turned and left.
However, Liam couldn't sleep all night because of his words. He knew that the person Victor was going to take him to see was Jessica. He thought to himself, 'Once I'm caught by the wicked woman Jessica, she will definitely use me to threaten my mommy. By then, my mommy and I will be driven out of Woerek and can never come back.'
He still hadn't found his father, and he didn't want people to say he was a child without a father. Therefore, he went to Carolyn's room early in the morning and sat at the door, looking pitiful and abandoned, like a castaway child.
Sam, who had gotten up early, hurried over anxiously. "Liam, why are you up so early?"
"I miss Mrs. Hastings," Liam said pitifully, rubbing his frozen red hands. His voice sounded very plaintive.
Seeing that it was still early, Sam hesitated and said, "Mrs. Hastings hasn't woken up yet. You can come back to your room and rest with me. When she wakes up, you can go find her."
"No, I'll wait here," Liam refused to leave and stayed at Carolyn's room door. He huddled in the corner, looking very pitiful.
Sam felt sorry for Liam and could only stay outside the door with him.
Just as Victor came out of his room, he saw this scene and asked sternly, "What's going on?"
"Mr. Hastings, Liam misses Mrs. Hastings. No matter how I persuade him, he refuses to leave," Sam explained in distress.
Victor narrowed his eyes dangerously. His piercing and terrifying gaze fell on Liam.
Liam hugged his frozen red hands and curled up even tighter. His chubby face turned pale. He sneezed a few times.
"Are you catching a cold?" Victor asked, surprised.
Liam shook his head and said no as he wiped his nose.
Victor walked over with complex emotions on his face and picked Liam up from the ground.
"Don't make any noise and disturb my mother," Victor warned in a low voice, carrying Liam back to his room. Then he told Sam, "Go cook some hot chicken soup and turn up the temperature of the air conditioning in the house."
"Okay," Sam quickly walked out.
Victor put Liam on the sofa and looked down at him. "Are you scared of me?"
"No," Liam shook his head, his eyes shining brightly.
When he lied, he didn't even hesitate!
Victor grinned as he stroked his chin. "Are you afraid I'll take you to see your crazy mommy?"
"Uncle Victor, my mommy has already abandoned me. Please don't mention her again, okay? It will make me very upset," Liam looked like he was about to cry, sounding very aggrieved.
"But why did I hear from Sam that you have a great relationship with your mommy? Or do you have two mommies, and Jessica is just one of them?" Victor ruthlessly exposed him.
Not knowing what to do, Liam saw Sam approaching with hot chicken soup and quickly changed the subject. "Uncle Victor, can I have it? I feel really uncomfortable."
"You may. But before you drink it, answer my previous question. Who is your other mommy?" Victor demanded.
Liam simply pretended not to hear and jumped off the couch, running barefoot to Sam's side.
Victor frowned and scolded, "Put on your shoes!"
This made Liam start crying immediately.
Sam felt sorry for him and couldn't help but intercede. "Mr. Hastings, he's just a child. Please don't scold him."
After Carolyn woke up, Victor told her that he would take Liam out.
"Where are you taking him?" Carolyn was on high alert.
"He has been at our house for many days now, and he must miss his mommy. Coincidentally, I have nothing to do this morning, so I can take Liam to see his mommy," Victor said.
Liam, who was eating breakfast in the dining room, coughed violently twice.
Carolyn rushed over and asked, "What's wrong, Liam? Are you choking?"
"I'm fine, Mrs. Hastings. It's just that I waited outside your door all night, so I caught a cold," Liam's voice was hoarse.
His words shocked Carolyn immensely, and she called Sam over to inquire, "Why did Liam wait outside my room all night? What's going on?"
Sam was scared by Carolyn's anger and could only truthfully recount what had happened in the morning.
Upon learning that Liam had been squatting outside her room and refused to leave, Carolyn sternly looked at Victor. "Is it because you scared him?"
"I..." Victor began.
"You don't have to explain. It must be your fault! He already caught a cold, so why did you still take him out?" Before Victor could finish speaking, Carolyn directly asserted. She glared at Victor in anger and then turned back to Liam with tenderness, saying, "Quickly finish your meal. Later, I'll take you upstairs to rest."
Liam obediently put down his fork and got off the chair. He rubbed his pale face tiredly and followed Carolyn docilely.
Once they were in the room, Carolyn asked, "Did Uncle Victor scare you?"
Liam shook his head and said, "No. Uncle Victor only made me fall off the bed and roll a few times last night. He didn't scare me."
After comforting Liam, Carolyn went downstairs and directly scolded Victor. "He is such a jerk! How dare he hit a child!"
Victor, having figured out what Liam had told his mother, wasn't angry. In fact, he became even more interested in Liam and wanted to know who Liam's mother was!
He thought to himself, 'for now, let Liam stay at home, and there will be plenty of time to get information from the little one's mouth later.'
Victor drove to the company and attended a high-level meeting. When he came out, he saw Zach standing next to Sophia with several takeout bags in his hand. It seemed like Zach had just bought breakfast from a breakfast shop, causing envy-filled gaze cast from the people in the office.
