Chapter 35 Can I Kiss You?
Evelyn
Adrian sat in front of me watching with lost eyes while I started removing my soaked clothes until only the thin shirt underneath my home clothes remained.
My pants came off too, leaving me only in my underwear because I did not want to return home drenched in cold water, while he stared at me as if looking at something unreal.
“Fuck!... this is too much for my heart.” His drugged voice sent strange heat crawling across my face.
One brow lifted while trying to ignore the way he looked at me. “Adrian, enough flirting and follow me... come on, stand up and focus with me.”
With difficulty, he rose without arguing, but his body swayed suddenly. I caught him quickly before he fell, and the heat of his skin burned against my palms.
“Do you feel dizzy?”
“Very...” came his weak murmur.
“It’s okay, you’re with me... I’m holding you.”
After a few moments the dizziness eased slightly, yet those tired eyes remained fixed on me in that strange way... like he could not believe I was truly here with him, inside his bathroom, half soaked and consumed by worry from the inside.
Cold water poured over us beneath the shower of his apartment bathroom, immediately stealing my breath the moment it touched my body. Adrian gasped sharply, chest rising violently from the freezing temperature while I tried enduring it for his sake.
“Are you really here with me?”
Smile appeared despite the trembling in my limbs. “I’m here... don’t think too much, just stay under the water.”
Long stares never left me while my hands held his so he would not lose balance. Painful weakness covered him completely... and that alone squeezed my heart painfully.
“Evelyn... please don’t leave me too.”
Something inside me froze hearing those words. Sad smile crossing my lips, I brushed water away from his face.
“I won’t leave you, Adrian, don’t worry... I’m here with you.”
For a moment his eyes closed before a quiet voice escaped him.
“I’m sorry, Evelyn.”
Confusion made me blink. “And why are you apologizing to me?”
Slowly, his eyes opened again, exhaustion obvious in them.
“Just... because.”
Without realizing it, I moved closer, and suddenly his arm circled my waist before pulling me against him. A surprised gasp left me, though I did not pull away. Dark eyes watched me in a way that made my stomach tighten nervously.
“I think I’m falling for you, Mrs. Carter... don’t blame me, please.”
My breathing trembled slightly.
Gaze dropping to his lips before lifting back toward him, I whispered softly:
“And why would I blame you, Adrian? Even I... think I’m falling for you.”
Silence filled the space for a moment, broken only by water and our tangled breaths. His eyes lowered toward my lips before he moved closer... slower and slower... then stopped suddenly.
“Can I kiss you?”
Shyness lowered my gaze while a tiny smile slipped onto my lips unwillingly.
“I’ll take that as a yes then.”
His fingers lifted my chin, and the second our lips met, something inside me completely collapsed.
Adrian kissed me hungrily... like he had been waiting for this moment forever. Breath disappeared between his lips while my hand rested against his burning chest as his body trapped me against the wall behind me. Total control belonged to him, changing the angle of the kiss with both slowness and madness until my legs weakened beneath me.
Damn...
That man knows exactly how to kiss.
He pulled away, hot breaths striking my face while drugged eyes examined me carefully.
“What is the punishment for tasting your lips and becoming intoxicated?”
Light laughter escaped me while still breathing unevenly.
“You are extremely dangerous.”
Before he could speak, I pulled him toward me and kissed him again. Shock crossed his face for a second before his arms tightened around my waist harder.
Butterflies inside my stomach had gone completely insane.
Close to his lips, I whispered softly:
“You affected me like a curse, Adrian... I think about you too much.”
Within one second, his arms lifted me easily, my legs automatically wrapping around his waist while clinging to his neck.
“Adrian! What are you doing? You’re sick.”
Tired mischief crossed his face while burying his face near my neck.
“I just found my medicine.”
Heat rushed across my cheeks harder after feeling his obvious erection beneath the towel. Close to my ear, his low whisper made my entire body shiver.
“I can feel your femininity pulsing... she wants me, doesn’t she?”
Embarrassment forced me to bite my lip because his words were terrifyingly true.
This time I kissed him harder while water still streamed over our bodies, his hands gripping my thighs so I would not slip. Soft groans escaped him between kisses as if my touch was stealing the last remains of his sanity.
But suddenly...Marcus.
I remembered Marcus.
I pulling away, slipped from his arms, making him stop the kiss while worry appeared clearly on his face.
“What’s wrong?”
I grabbed his hand.
“Come on, Adrian... back to bed.”
Fingers cupped my face as though afraid I would disappear.
“I’m sorry... please don’t leave. I rushed things, I mean... don’t be angry with me, don’t stay away from me... please...”
His nose started bleeding again.
Fear made me gasp while hurrying closer.
“Adrian! Your nose is bleeding again... what is happening to you?”
Embarrassment crossed his features while turning his face away and holding his nose.
“It’s nothing important... I’m okay.”
Forcing him to look at me again, I felt my heart pounding violently from fear.
“What are you hiding? Is there something I should know?”
His eyes lifted toward mine and noticed tears gathering unwillingly inside them.
“Don’t worry... I’m fine. Why don’t you believe me?”
“Because you’re lying!” My trembling voice betrayed me. “You are not fine, Adrian.”
His hunds surrounded my face before he leaned closer until our foreheads touched.
“Please... believe me.”
“Why do I feel like you’re hiding something?”
Complete stillness overtook him when a tear slipped down my cheek.
“Are you... crying for me?”
I looked away and wiped my tears.
“Let’s forget tonight... I just want you to get better.”
My hand touched his forehead again.
“The fever dropped a little... come on, let’s get out.”
Noticing I refused to look at him, his fingers closed gently around my hand.
“Why won’t you look at me?”
“Nothing... come on already.”
But suddenly his hand grabbed his head painfully as though agony hit him violently. Blood poured from his nose again, darker this time in a way that terrified me.
“Adrian!”
His body staggered against the wall while breaths became frighteningly fast.
“Let’s go to the hospital, please...” Real tears filled my voice this time.
“No...” Strong arms clung to me while his face buried near my neck. “I hate hospitals.”
“You’re scaring me...” My whisper broke apart. “What is happening to you?”
Exhaustion forced his eyes shut.
“I don’t know...”
Holding his hand, I guided him slowly toward the bed while wiping my tears away.
