Chapter 19 New Wife and Your Perfect Life!
Kai
Inside the house, I was talking with Marcus. He handed me a tissue so I could wipe the blood stuck around my nose after those damned punches I received outside.
I grabbed the tissue, then Marcus said with obvious coldness: “What do you want?”
A sarcastic laugh escaped me despite the exhaustion visible across my face.
“Not even a: welcome back, Dad? Or... did you miss me maybe?”
My eyes lifted toward him.
No real warmth existed in the way he stared at me.
“Miss you? Dad... I never even lived with you in the first place, so how do you expect me to miss you?”
A heavy sigh left me before I sat on the couch inside the small living room.
“What do you want me to do? I searched for both of you everywhere... and now I finally found you.”
Suddenly he stood and walked toward me, then hugged me lightly.
For only one moment... something softened inside me against my will.
Damn it! That boy never knew what it meant to have a father.
Lightly my hand rested against his back.
“You are my son Marcus... no matter what happens, never forget that.”
Difficulty filled his sigh, as if he was cursing his weak heart inside himself before speaking again.
“Dad... why do you always create problems? Can’t you change for once?”
He pulled away from me, while I forced a smile onto my face as if trying to remain calm.
“Believe me, I did nothing. I was only talking to your mother, then suddenly that young man came and punched me.”
Once again I sat down, while Marcus sat across from me with his elbows resting over his knees.
Longly I stared at him.
I still cannot believe this is truly little Marcus.
He grew up so much... And he even resembles me a little now too.
“I cannot believe this is really you... little Marcus. You grew up a lot... and became handsome too. You even look a little like me.”
A fake smile appeared on his lips, barely reaching his eyes.
“Thanks... and you did not change much either. I mean... I saw your pictures.”
But behind those calm eyes... obvious anger existed. I could see it easily.
“Why do you not answer my calls, Marcus?!”
Slowly he sighed.
“Because I do not want to... simply.”
Annoyance loosened across my features.
“What son does not visit his father? Do not act childish, please.”
Directly his gaze met mine.
“I do not want to go to your wife’s house, and that is the end of the discussion.”
Another sigh escaped me as I leaned back.
“Mirana loves you, and constantly asks about you. You are being unfair to her. What happened between me and your mother... were only disagreements. I am not as bad as you think. Come with me, and you will lack nothing.”
A bitter sarcastic laugh escaped him despite the tightness in his chest.
“You were about to hit her earlier, for heaven’s sake! Do you hit Mirana too? Or was my mother the only whore to you?”
Immediately my expression hardened.
“Marcus! I am your father, show me some respect.”
But all the anger inside him exploded at once.
“Father only by name! Do you even know what food I like? What game I was obsessed with as a child? Do you know how I cried whenever I got sick?”
His voice rose even more.
“My mother was the one staying awake beside me all night! My mother was the one working in restaurants and cafés day and night so I would not lack anything! You? You were with your new wife and your perfect life!”
Tears gathered inside his eyes against his will.
“And despite everything you did to her... she never turned me against you even once. Even when she could have easily thrown you into prison, she did not do it. Only because of me.”
Silence filled the room for a moment before his broken voice continued.
“My mother is pure... she loves me more than herself. But you? Your wife is everything to you.”
Hard pressure tightened around my fist while I tried controlling my nerves.
“Your mother is the one who made you think this way. And that young man too... there is something uncomfortable about him. I do not like him.”
Frustration covered his movements as he wiped his face roughly.
“Dad... let us talk later. I am not in the mood for this now.”
“I will wait for your call. And do not force me to reach the courts. I do not like your mother, and I do not like that young man either. I will overlook what happened this time only because he is your friend... but next time, he should mind his own business.”
Violently his fingers ran through his hair.
“Dad... please leave.”
Real shock crossed my face this time.
Is my son throwing me out now?
Still... a faded smile appeared on my lips despite everything.
“I will wait for your call, son. And if you need anything... I am here. I am your father, remember that. You are not some street child.”
No answer came from him.
Only tightly closed eyes.
“I truly hope you call me... I want us to make memories together. Because until now... we do not have any.”
A bitter laugh escaped Marcus.
“You should have thought about that when you cheated on my mother with that woman... when you made her run away from you terrified.”
For one brief moment my eyes closed.
“Should I have stayed with her despite everything? We did not get along. I have the right to live my life... just as she has that right too.”
Finally tears slipped down his face.
“You will never understand the meaning of family.”
Bitterness filled my smile as I stared down at the floor.
“I did not know you hated me this much.”
Quickly his gaze lifted toward me.
“I do not hate you... just do not come back here. Mom panics every time she sees you.”
For a long moment I stared at him before finally nodding my head.
“Then I will wait for your call.”
I left him sitting alone on the couch, then slowly walked out of the house.
The second the door opened...
Evelyn’s laughter reached me from outside.
Instantly she stood up once she saw me, while that young man rose as well.
Then completely unconsciously... she literally hid behind him.
And that alone was enough to ignite something dark inside me.
My eyes met his once again.
“Evelyn... do not force me to deal with you the hard way. In the end you are my son’s mother, and my son is not some street child... understood?”
Deliberately I looked at him while speaking.
That boy specifically... I do not like him.
A cold sarcastic smile appeared on his face.
“Next time I will not overlook what happened.”
Then he pointed toward me with his finger.
“And you... our business is not over yet.”
Only one step closer.
Yet his presence alone felt suffocating.
“I am here... and I will impatiently wait to see what exactly you are going to do.”
Quickly Evelyn grabbed his arm before things exploded again.
“Just leave, Kai.”
For a long moment I looked at her.
Then finally I turned around and walked toward my black car parked in front of the house.
That bastard kept watching me until I entered the car, then I heard him curse angrily.
“Damn it... I want to smash his face.”
Inside the car, my fist slammed against the steering wheel violently.
“Damn it! That bastard...”
Mirana’s soft voice came from the seat beside me.
“Calm down Kai... are you okay?”
The small wound beside my lip was still bleeding slightly.
“I am fine... but that young man feels strangely familiar. Do you not think so? I feel like I saw him before.”
“And his name is Adrian too...”
For one moment Mirana became tense, but quickly hid it behind a small smile.
“I do not think I have seen him before. Besides, the name Adrian is very common these days.”
A sigh escaped me while wiping the blood from my lip.
“Maybe you are right.”
But my mind kept returning to the past over and over again.
To something I cannot fully grasp.
Something... I should not know yet.
