Chapter 154: I Got Revenge for You, Dad
Adrian
Dominic was knocking on the door, so I let him in. Dominic walked in quietly, his eyes examining me with deep concern.
“How are you feeling now?” Dominic asked in a low voice, trying to hide his worry.
I smiled softly, aware of how much Dominic was afraid for me.
“Fine, I just feel very tired,” I said in an exhausted voice.
“It’s okay, you’ll be back to how you were,” Dominic replied with a sad smile, placing his hand on my shoulder in comfort.
“How is Evelyn? Did she wake up?” I asked weakly.
Dominic was silent for a moment, and I felt fear creeping inside me. My heart began beating fast, my eyes widening with worry.
“Why are you silent? Did something happen to her?” I asked anxiously.
Dominic moved toward me, trying to stop me from standing as I started coughing hard. My chest hurt, but my worry about Evelyn was greater than any physical pain.
“She’s fine, she only lost a little blood,” Dominic said, trying to calm me down.
“What? Did she lose blood? I need to see her, Dominic,” I said worriedly, trying to get up again.
At that moment, Alexander entered the room with a stern expression.
“Adrian, sit down!” he said, anger clear in his voice.
Alexander spoke firmly, forcing me to sit back down while I held my tired head.
“Alexander, please tell me the truth. Is she okay? Why are you stopping me from visiting her? You’re hiding something, I know it,” I said with growing worry.
“No, she’s fine. But she hasn’t woken up, Adrian. She won’t wake up today... there’s nothing dangerous. She’s tired. That piece of glass had echo in it, and that’s a little dangerous. I injected her with an antidote for it. She’ll wake up after her body rests and gets all the echo out of her system. I promise you that. Just sit down... her body is weak. She opens her eyes but closes them again,” Alexander said in a calmer voice, though he remained firm.
I sat while holding my head, feeling guilt eating away at me.
“This is because of me,” I said worriedly, my voice sad.
“Nothing happened because of you, don’t say that,” Dominic said quickly, trying to push that feeling out of my heart.
My chest was hurting, and the pain was clear on my face.
“What’s wrong?” Dominic asked worriedly.
“My chest hurts,” I said weakly, my voice barely audible.
“We told you to calm down, but you don’t listen. Adrian, what am I going to do with you?” Alexander said angrily, his worry mixed with his anger.
“Alexander, please calm down,” Dominic interrupted, trying to ease the tension.
Alexander only sighed and held his head, feeling angry and worried at the same time.
“I’m sorry for tiring you all out with me,” I said tiredly, feeling the weight of responsibility on my shoulders.
“Don’t say that, Adrian... we’re family, and family doesn’t apologize for things like this. Hmm? Anyway, you asked for me...! Is there something wrong?” Dominic said kindly, his warm smile enough to push some of the darkness out of my heart.
I smiled at Dominic’s words, feeling the warmth of brotherhood surrounding me.
“Yes, why don’t I see the others? Jack, Martin, and Albert... where are they?” I asked weakly.
“They’re here, only Martin isn’t here. He’s working on some things... Albert examined you with Alexander and left. Something important came up for him,” Dominic said.
I nodded in agreement, then asked in a low voice, “Tell me what happened?”
“Adrian, we did it,” Dominic said with a smile, his eyes shining with happiness.
I looked at him in shock, my heart beginning to pound.
“What do you mean?”
Dominic sighed before answering.
“We found Kai’s warehouse, and we took everything, Adrian.”
My eyes widened in shock, my heart beating violently. A mixture of shock and hope filled my soul.
“But how did you know? How did you find out where his warehouse was?” I asked strangely.
Dominic sighed again, his voice filled with confusion. “It’s strange, Adrian, but a message reached Martin. Someone helped us... but we don’t know who. It was someone unknown who helped us without asking for anything in return. Jack searched a lot for him but couldn’t find anything. The credit goes to him. Martin checked the address and found that it was correct.”
“Who was the one who helped us? I mean, no one knows about this!” I said in confusion, my eyes staring at Dominic as if searching for an answer.
“That’s what I’m trying to understand, Adrian,” Alexander said with the same confusion.
“We recovered almost everything... Adrian, you did it. You got your revenge. Kai will go bankrupt... and his wife too. Your father’s company has returned to you, legally,” Dominic said happily, his voice full of pride.
A tear fell down my cheek, feeling the weight of the past years melting away.
“I wouldn’t have succeeded without you... we did it together,” I said tiredly, my voice weak with emotion.
Dominic smiled, and so did Alexander. The three of us shared a moment of victory.
“We’re brothers. We all wanted revenge for my uncle, Adrian... not just you,” Alexander said, his voice firm and filled with buried emotions.
I smiled as I only looked at them, feeling indescribable gratitude. The truth was, my father always cared about some orphans, and they were Dominic, Alexander, Albert, Jack, and Martin themselves. They were in the same orphanage, and my father used to take me to the orphanage and introduced me to them. When my father died, the friends ran away from the orphanage after hearing the news because they knew they would be treated badly without that man. The orphanage was afraid of my father and his unexpected visits because he had a high position at the time.
They ran away from there, and it was Alexander’s idea. They became homeless, but Martin found a shelter that belonged to a gang, so they had to work with them in exchange for a place to sleep and food. Alexander studied and worked with them. He studied secretly and worked in the evenings. His dream was to become a doctor, but they had goals. They studied with great difficulty and worked with them in the evenings.
Until the leader of that gang died, and Alexander took advantage of it and became the leader. He was the oldest among them and had fighting skills he had learned from his father before he died. He found me one day with a man and couldn’t believe it. He recognized me right away, and I became the leader at Alexander’s request. They swore an oath to me that they would get revenge for me when I told them what had happened. That was how their friendship was formed.
Jack entered, pulling Dominic out of his memories.
“Can we come in?” Jack asked.
“Come in,” I said tiredly, the exhaustion clear on my face.
“How are you feeling, my friend?” Jack asked sadly, his eyes filled with tears.
I started coughing, my voice rough.
“I’m fine, Jack, don’t worry...” I said tiredly, my breathing difficult as I struggled to breathe.
“My friend, you’ll get better and we’ll celebrate together,” Martin said, his smile warm and encouraging.
I looked at them, feeling their love surrounding me from every side.
“Thank you for helping me,” I said tiredly, my voice full of gratitude.
“Don’t thank us, Adrian,” Alexander said, his voice firm, but his eyes shining with emotion.
“Adrian, we’ll let you rest now. Don’t think about anything right now... okay?” Martin added, his voice calm and reassuring.
I nodded in agreement, then started coughing hard. Dominic hurried to help me and gave me water worriedly. Dominic looked at the others with concern, and they did the same. Their worry was clear, but no one spoke. They knew I needed rest more than anything else.
“Thank you, Dominic,” I said in a low voice.
“It’s okay,” Dominic said, helping me settle back into my place on the bed.
“If Evelyn wakes up, please tell me. I want to see her,” I said tiredly, my eyes heavy with sleep.
“Don’t worry, I’ll tell you... rest now. I’ll give you an injection to ease the coughing a little,” Alexander said.
“Okay...” I said, surrendering to the exhaustion taking over my body.
Alexander injected my arm, and slowly I felt relaxation spreading through my body. Everyone left my room, and I started thinking only about my father.
“Dad... I kept my promise,” I said as I cried silently, tears falling onto my pillow.
“I got revenge for you, Dad... do you feel at peace now?” I whispered through my tears, my voice broken with sadness and pain.
I closed my eyes while thinking about everything: Evelyn, Miran, Marcus, Kai... and my father. My thoughts tangled together, but the exhaustion was stronger. I drifted into the world of dreams, leaving behind all the pain and worry, and all the victory that had been achieved.
