Chapter 12 Evelyn. Is She Really My Professor?
Adrian
“I hope we are in the same section, Adrian.”
I was standing with Marcus in front of the section lists hanging on the wall.
I looked at him calmly and nodded my head. “I hope so too.”
I said it with obvious boredom. Honestly... I did not care much.
Marcus started searching excitedly through the long names, while I stood behind him rolling my eyes with growing boredom.
Then suddenly my eyes drifted toward a certain direction... As if I were searching for a specific person.
My phone rang. I answered immediately.
“Section B.”
Then the call ended directly.
I headed toward the list carrying the letter B, and my eyes immediately landed on my name... and Marcus’s name beside it.
“Marcus, we are together. Look.”
He turned toward me with obvious happiness and quickly moved closer to the paper.
“Oh my God, what are these coincidences! Thank God you are with me.”
I watched him for moments before saying with confusion, “Marcus... do you smile like this all the time?”
He laughed lightly.
“I do not know... I feel strange happiness today. Maybe because I am excited.”
I sighed while rolling my eyes. “Come on let us go to the hall. I am already tired.”
I started walking quickly, while Marcus ran behind me.
“And what did you even do to become tired already? The day only started minutes ago! Slow down a little.”
“That is exactly what tires me, Marcus.”
Korean language lecture first.
For me... it was fatally boring. Then the science lecture came, and my boredom increased even more.
While Marcus was focusing with the professor enthusiastically and writing everything quickly.
I looked at him with slight sarcasm.
“Damn... what am I even doing here in the first place?”
I muttered it inside my mind before deciding to sleep on the table.
The science lecture finally ended... And now we have another lecture.
I was about to quietly withdraw and leave the hall, but my body completely froze the moment the door opened.
Evelyn. Is she really my professor?
I sat in my place immediately without thinking, staring at her in shock.
Dear God... What is this beauty?
The moment she entered the hall, silence spread throughout the entire place, while all conversations stopped at once. Dozens of eyes turned toward her in obvious shock, and some of them were staring at her as if they completely forgot they were inside a university lecture in the first place.
And for some reason... I felt strange annoyance while seeing them look at her like that.
She moved forward with her usual calmness toward the electronic board, then wrote her name in clear handwriting:
“Mrs. Evelyn Carter”
Whispers immediately rose inside the hall.
Some of them were impressed. Some of them were shocked. And some of them were smiling as if they entered a movie instead of a university.
As for me... I was only watching her.
“I am your Italian language professor. I hope we do not face any problems with each other. If there is something unclear, do not be shy to ask me.”
Her eyes moved between the students with her calm smile, then she continued in a gentler tone:
“There is no need for shyness between us... pleased to meet you.”
The whispers started rising more. And I did not like that at all.
One of the students quickly raised his hand and said with a wide smile: “Welcome to our university, Professor Carter.”
She smiled at him with automatic kindness.
“Thank you my son, that is kind of you.”
Then another student spoke with obvious hesitation: “Professor... I apologize for the question, but how old are you? You look very young... and you are extremely beautiful.”
Marcus immediately clenched his hand nervously beside me. As for me... I turned toward the young man directly with a cold look that made him nervous for a moment.
Marcus almost stood up already, so I quickly grabbed his arm before he exposed himself in front of everyone.
“Damn him... is he flirting with my mother?”
He whispered it with suppressed anger.
I moved slightly closer to him while answering in a low voice: “Calm down Marcus... we do not want problems for her from the first day. This will only harm her.”
He breathed nervously, but finally sat while still staring at the young man as if he wanted to kill him.
As for her... she laughed lightly because of the entire hall’s awkwardness.
“That is kind of you too... and regarding my age, I am forty-five years old. I am no longer young, I have become old now.”
Everyone’s eyes widened in obvious shock. Even I raised my eyebrow unconsciously.
Forty-five? Impossible.
She laughed lightly while raising her hand in surrender: “Do not look at me like that.”
But before she could continue speaking, the hall door opened forcefully.
A late young man entered as if he owned the entire university.
I recognized him immediately.. Ryan.
One of those idiots who think rudeness means charisma.
I watched her while she crossed her arms in front of her chest with dissatisfaction while he headed toward the back seats carelessly, then sat while looking at her with a provocative smile.
“And why did you come now? You could have stayed home instead of arriving late.”
He raised his eyebrow toward her mockingly. “And who are you exactly? Are you the professor’s assistant?”
Some suppressed laughter came out from the hall, while one of them quickly whispered to him: “She is the professor, idiot.”
But he ignored everyone completely. Then he looked at her again in a rude way before saying: “You know? I watched a porn clip before... and this is exactly how it starts.”
I felt my fist closing automatically over the table. Marcus stood up halfway with real anger, so I pulled him forcefully back to his place before he acted recklessly.
As for her... she did not get angry. And that made the situation much worse.
“What is your name?”
He answered with arrogant confidence: “Ryan. Nice to meet you.”
She examined him for seconds, then said calmly: “Do you know the meaning of power, Rayman?”
He raised his shoulders without interest.
She only smiled. Then she started climbing the lecture stairs in her black heels with calm steadiness that made everyone watch her in complete silence.
She stopped directly in front of him. And for the first time... his smile actually shook.
“Power is the ability to direct another person’s behavior or change the course of events... and this is exactly what I possess right now, Mr. Rayman.”
“I can throw you out of the lecture, make you fail, and raise an official report against you for violating university student conduct. And every decision among those decisions is capable of changing your future completely.”
She tilted her head slightly with a calm sarcastic smile. “This is power... and you possess none of it.”
I watched the students’ faces around me. As for Ryan... his face turned into a real disaster.
She stood directly in front of him then said with sharp coldness: “You have two choices now... either apologize, or I show you my power in the literal meaning, Mr. Rayman.”
He looked around quickly, only to find everyone staring at him and some of them trying to suppress their laughter.
He finally swallowed his saliva then stood with lowered head. “I am sorry... I did not mean to cross my limits, Professor.”
She smiled slightly from the side. “Good job... it seems you are smart in the end.”
He sat in his place with obvious embarrassment, while she returned to her desk amid the shock of the entire hall.
Marcus looked proud of her in a funny way.
As for me... I was still staring at Rayman with looks that made him avoid looking toward me completely.
My fingers were pressing hard over the table without me noticing. I adjusted my sitting position slowly trying to calm my nerves, but suddenly... She raised her eyes toward me.
I froze for a moment.. she recognized me. Even with the black mask covering half my face.
Damn. She was looking at me now as a professor. But I was remembering her between my arms only hours ago.
Her looks moved toward Marcus sitting beside me, so he smiled at her with obvious enthusiasm.
She quickly returned the smile while trying to hide her nervousness.
“I have a son studying here in the university as well... and maybe he is around your ages, but I will not tell you who he is. That is a secret.”
Laughter immediately spread inside the hall.
Marcus was laughing with them enthusiastically like a small child.
One of the students raised his voice enthusiastically: “Why? We want to see your son, Professor! He is very lucky because he has a mother like you.”
She laughed lightly while shaking her head. And although she tried to act naturally... I clearly saw the tension inside her eyes.
And that specific tension... Made my heart beat in a very dangerous way.
