Chloe just found out that her boss, Vincent, was married. Seeing the gentle smile on Vincent's face when he mentioned his wife, she guessed that Vincent and his wife must be very much in love.
Loaded, easy on the eyes, and all heart for his woman, Chloe's admiration for her new boss shot through the roof.
After seriously considering her perspective as an ordinary girl, she replied sincerely, "Mr. Harrison, girls usually like jewelry, but I think the most precious thing is your affection for your wife. For example, sending a bouquet, taking her out for a meal, or watching a movie together."
Vincent, who had no experience in love, only thought that since he married her, he should treat her well. "Well, you go ahead and prepare."
Loaded, easy on the eyes, and all heart for his woman, Chloe's admiration for her new boss shot through the roof.
He glanced at the gift box and the vibrant red roses beside him, feeling their brightness almost offensive. Without dwelling on it, he shifted his gaze, lit a cigarette, took a drag, and directed the driver, "Valley Resort."
Chloe, still groggy from sleep and exhausted from working day and night, had long forgotten about the marriage registration and had no impression of the name 'Luke.'
Since the number was her private one, it probably didn't belong to a client, so she didn't pay much attention to it.
She tossed her phone aside, walked into the kitchen, squeezed between Elsa Miller and Alan Brown, and said softly, "Why didn't you wake me up when you got back?"
Elsa playfully booped her nose, "Girl, you were out like a light. We let you catch those Z's."
Alan, already dishing out the grub, chimed in, "Get cleaned up. Food's on."
The three of them had grown up together and attended the same university. After graduation, they planned to return to their hometown and start a business.
No one expected that during the summer of their sophomore year, Chloe had an accident and almost couldn't continue her studies.
After that incident, they decided to stay in Skyhaven City to support Chloe's development.
After graduation, the three of them started a comic studio together, renting a three-bedroom apartment where they worked, ate, and lived together. Their relationship was so close that it was as if they were family.
Looking at the table full of dishes, Chloe asked, "Is today's feast because our studio made a lot of money?"
Alan poured out some red vino, grinning, "Seeing as you snagged that CEO right-hand gig, we're throwing down for your rise."
Elsa squeezed next to Chloe, her face full of gossip, "Your CEO's a mystery, girls drooling over him like there's no tomorrow. Is he a real heartthrob or what?"
As a man, Alan thought women were shallow and said grumpily, "Please, money don't buy good looks. Maybe the dude's Ghostface 'cause he's so hidden."
Chloe chuckled, slipping in a quip, "He's a looker for sure, but if he's got people losing their way, you better ask his missus about that."
Elsa gasped, "No way. He's hitched?"
Chloe confirmed, "Yup, married and all gooey-eyed for his lady. But I swear he's got a face that's ringin' bells; can't place where, though."
Elsa teased, "You always think good-looking men look familiar. You're a potential heartbreaker in the making."
Chloe giggled, "A sprinkle of heartbreak ain't all bad; why be all serious, right?"
Alan rolled his eyes, "Chloe, you're already married!"
Elsa immediately retorted, "Just because she's married, she can't fantasize a bit? Do you expect Coey to stay loyal to a man who disappeared after they got married?"
Coey was their playful name for Chloe.
Chloe shrugged, looking calm, "With you two by my side, what do I need a man for?"
When she first got married, Chloe had thought about living a good life with her husband. But after he disappeared without a trace, Donna, whom she had met a few times before the registration, also stopped contacting her, and she had no more thoughts about it.
Only Cassidy would often talk about her grandson-in-law and planned to visit Skyhaven this Christmas.
Elsa and Alan chimed in harmony, "Exactly, men ain't top in our squad."
Amidst banter and giggles, they wrapped up the meal, tidying the table together.
The following day, Chloe was at the office bright and early. Her peculiar new boss kept odd hours, and the fat paycheck was demanding more sweat than ever.
As soon as Chloe got out of the taxi, she saw a very luxurious black Bentley slowly stop in front of the company entrance.
She hurried over to open the car door for her boss, "Good morning, Mr. Harrison!"
Vincent nodded, his face not looking very good.
Chloe didn't dare to think much, following closely behind him into the CEO's private elevator, dutifully reporting today's schedule to him.
In the morning, there was a golf appointment with the CEO of Future Life.
Vincent's demeanor had shifted back to the usual cool, sharing laughs and talking it up with the Future Life CEO, radiating sophistication in every move.
Yet, on the sidelines, Leo and Chloe sensed a lingering tension in the air.
Leo had been by Vincent's side for many years and rarely saw the CEO show his emotions. Today was an exception. He muttered, "Chloe, what do you think is wrong with Mr. Harrison?"
Chloe shook her head, "Beats me. If you don't know, how would I?"
Leo tilted his head and thought for a long time. There hadn't been any issues at work recently, so the CEO's troubles must be personal.
A sudden thought struck him. He exclaimed in a low voice, "Could it be that Mr. Harrison was unsatisfied with his wife last night?"
