Chapter 46 Chapter 46

Chapter 46 Chapter 46
Tessa

I was about to answer but didn't. I trusted Detective Ryan, but Kai needed to remain a mystery .
“No, no name, nothing; he’s basically a ghost, and I’m grateful for it because I don’t know how I would have survived.” I said quietly.
“Okay, now I can retire,” he said, and I looked at him. He just sighed.

“I felt like a failure. I became a cop and detective to help people, and you were the one person I couldn't help. When you texted me, I was relieved that you were far away from here, and then you showed up at the precinct. Now that he’s gone and you’re safe, I can retire and go fishing,” he said.
“Fishing?” I asked with a laugh.
“Yes, fishing. So this stalker, is he dangerous?” he asked.

Kia, dangerous, absolutely, dangerous for my sanity and everyone around me.
“No, he isn't, at least not to me,” I said. I needed to reassure him.
He stayed for a while, and then he left. I sat there and watched as he drove off. I opened the phone and pulled up the number and stared at it for a while before texting him.

TESSA: Thank you.
The reply was instant.

KAI: For what beauty?
I hesitated in replying but did.

TESSA: For getting rid of them, for my freedom.
KAI: You’re mine, beauty; no one is allowed to touch you but me.

TESSA: Yeah, sure, bye.
KAI: Bye, beauty.

I was still sitting there when the sun rose. On my first day of freedom, I decided I wanted to go into Manhattan and just walk around.
By nine I was already in Manhattan. I drove the car and parked it in a parking garage, and I walked around aimlessly for hours for the first time in years without any fear.
I stopped at a bookstore that was tucked away between two stores and got some books; I did a bit of shopping. I was sitting in a restaurant having lunch when my phone vibrated. I pulled it out and saw his name.

KAI: Are you enjoying your day?
TESSA: I am.

KAI: Good
TESSA: You didn't text me just to ask if I was enjoying my day, did you?

I saw the three dots appear, then they disappeared.

KAI: No
TESSA: So?

KAI: I want dinner.
I stared at the message. What in God's name?

KAI: Beauty?
TESSA: On one condition.
KAI: Okay

TESSA: Answer my questions.
I waited.
KAI: Fine

TESSA: How old are you?
KAI: 30

TESSA: Full name
KAI: Kai, nothing else.

TESSA: The first time you saw me, where was that?
KAI: Outside the nightclub, during the raid.

That night, there were a lot of stragglers. Police, the other girls, bartenders, waitresses, and customers.

TESSA: Besides stalking me, what do you do for a living?
KAI: Business Beauty.

TESSA: Family?
KAI: Yes

TESSA: Do they know what you’re doing? offing people?
KAI: No.

I sighed. I didn't want to push it. This was good for now; I would need more information, and asking him everything now may piss his psychotic ass off.

TESSA: Fine, 9 PM, you can come get it.
KAI: See you later, beauty.

I put the phone away and ate my lunch. As I was walking out, I walked smack-dad into Clarissa, and I groaned.
“What are you doing here? I didn't know this restaurant allowed whores into their establish…”

Her words were cut off because I punched her in the mouth, and that drew attention from other patrons. She held her mouth.
“You all saw that she assaulted me,” she yelled.
“Yeah, and I’ll keep punching you in the mouth every time you disrespect me,” I said, pulling my phone out. I dialed his number, and he answered on the first ring.

“Yes, Beauty? “I’m in the middle of a meeting,” he said, his voice low.
“Sorry. I just punched Zaiel’s fiancé, sorry, ex-fiancée, in the mouth because she called me a whore. “Deal with it,” I said, ending the call and walking out of the restaurant. I was walking back to the car when my phone rang; it wasn't a number I knew. I answered it.

“Hello?”
“Firecracker, I just got a call from a very pissed-off man,” he said, fucking Zaiel.
“Can’t you handle your fucking woman?” I asked, almost yelled. I got into the car, slamming the door and putting the phone on speaker.

“Firecracker, she isn't my woman, and who the hell is he?” he asked.
“Who he is shouldn't concern you.”
"Yes, it should because I saw you first," he said, and I stared at the phone. What the fuck is wrong with this idiot now?

“Zaiel, Please handle your woman, or the very pissed off man will hurt her, and stop saying shit like, "You saw me first." I sure as hell don't want you, now get off my phone.” I said, "Ending the call." Jesus, what the hell is wrong with him and his people?

Kai

I was in a meeting with a few board members taking care of business when the message came in. Even though I told her she was free, she wasn't. She would never be free from me. Jax and Rob were still watching her, but she didn't know that.

When Jax called to tell me she was sitting on her porch talking to the detective, I wasn't really worried, and Jax confirmed it; she said she didn't know my name. She could have easily told him, but she didn't.

When she was having lunch, I decided to test her resistance. What I didn't expect were the questions. I couldn't give her too much information; scared or not, she would try to find out anything and everything about me. I was about to answer one of the executives when the call came. I saw the look on their faces when I answered. This damn girl was a headache; now she is going around hurting people.
After my meeting, I was still sitting there when Jax called.

“What do you have for me?”
“She’s on her way home. She still doesn't know she is being watched. She’s at the grocery store now,” he said.

“Good. Make sure Rob gets all the information on the family of that fucking asshole Mark, his wife, and kids, if he had any. Hopefully his kids aren't as fucked up as he was. I want to know if and when they step into her state.”
“Rob will update you as soon as he gets that; I’ll let you know of any changes,” he said before ending the call.

I sat there staring out at the Manhattan skyline. I have never been obsessed with a woman my entire life, and along comes Tessa Jansen, screwing up my well-planned fucking life. I was annoyed not at her but at the fact that I wanted to know what she was doing, if she was fine, and if she ate, and I wanted her to cook for me.
I wanted her; that was the intention from the start. I wonder when it all comes out how she will handle it; she will probably fucking revolt.
